I checked the model number on the box of my PS5 and to my relief its the 1015A Model, I have the disc version.

Not that I don't trust Sony engineering. I've never had a PS console fail on me, noisy as hell like a Rocket on takeoff but its always worked.

I'll bet Sony tested this remodel like crazy and that its been made with the same level of craftsmanship as the original. If not it won't be long before we hear about it.

Gamer Nexus said the PS5 is equivalent to a 1060.
He is nothing but a non trustworthy PC jackass who thinks he can compare PC to consoles and trolls Gigabyte.

Anybody with a pinch of knowledge on PC cooling knows that copper heatsinks with heat pipes are much better than aluminum ones.

He is also one of the very few which have tested the internal temperatures and cooling system with the proper tools as well instead of just exhaust temps.

For what it's worth, I also think the reduction in copper could possibly increase the internal temps IF they kept the same design but the two look different now so that's why I'm keeping an open mind.

He also had higher temps on the PS5(then others) memory to the point that he insinuated that it could cause problems.
F00k that guy.

If the heatsink is reduced in size by removing the copper components... common sense says it's inferior.

Until I see common sense's teardown and their degree in a relevant engineering field or similar work experience, I'd wait for actual data.

Generally when there's mass hardware problems, its based on an oversight. Nobody at Sony overlooked cooling. This is a non issue.

As an aside, finally got a PS5D. Back to owning all consoles. Had traded PS4 Pro and One X in when Game Stop was giving extra credit but had no consoles. Finally had the opportunity to use my credit. Setup wasn't as bad as people made it sound. Controller is a significant improvement. UI is pretty in 4K.

First game purchased was Demon Souls. Cannot wait to dive in. Dark Souls is one of my top 5 franchises of all time and I never played the OG. Looks stunning on a 77" Oled.

So basically echoes what I have been saying. Right now it does not look like a cause for concern. It performs the same under load, no increase in fan speed or noise (either due to better airflow or quieter blades or no overheating or combination of all 3), internal temps still unknown but I'm sure we will see a more in depth analysis soon.

What's interesting is that DF said there's now 4 heat pipes but Austin's shows 6 for both new and old? Unless my eyes are playing tricks on me.

Also the only parts that really need copper are the parts touching the Soc/APU. Like CPU coolers in PC's, the fins designs are just as important.

Since you don't understand....
I suggest looking up copper vs aluminum for heat dissipation.
This is without considering bigger heatsink vs smaller.

I don't think so, did they open up the old model or just measure things externally? I don't know if they have the funds or more importantly the expertise to buy consoles just to rip them apart properly.

I don't know. Their newest article about initial impressions said the new PS5 has 4 heatpipes whereas the video and pics I posted clearly show 6. That's why I asked if they even opened up the new PS5 or not to say 4. Otherwise they need to correct that mistake.

Maybe two are deactivated for qa purposes and then sold later to the consumer market at a lesser price? ;)

I doubt they did, I don't think they have the expertise to put it back together lol. Plus if they had taken it apart he would have seen that it still has 6 copper pipes, the pic in their article only allows you to see 4 of them because of the angle it was taken at. I'm pretty much certain now that they haven't taken theirs apart yet.

Is the "copying" time after downloading something insanely slow for anyone else? Not sure if my SSD is going bad or this is normal.. I'll download something super fast, then it sits in "copying" for ages.

Mine copies for a while too. Haven't really timed it but I notice it.

I never see it happen because I always install/load them up with my app or online and all that stuff is done when I get home from work or wake up. I actually haven't seen a single game load/install on my PS5 (besides the PS4/PS5 duplicate game fiasco).

Other forums say copying takes awhile. So it sounds like you are safe.

Probably a tradeoff - trade off some write speed to get faster reads at the same price, which is the correct decision for a console .

Game development “seems to double in cost every platform,” Layden said, noting that his budgets for recent big PlayStation 4 titles each hit $100 million. “If we can’t stop the cost curve from going up, all we can do is try to de-risk it. That puts you in a place where you’re incentivized toward sequels.” He predicted that PS5 games will cost $200 million to make and that prices will continue to grow exponentially from there.
