So just another example that the SSD is extremely fast at streaming large chunks of information. I'm much more curious to see how it handles situations that aren't bulk copy speed and if course I'm still trying to figure out how big the games are going to be if turning around causes 2-3GB of unique assets to be read in from disk.

I'm sure we are getting close to finding this out very soon.

Pretty typical. Nothing burger.

Oh for sure, there were already people on twitter saying "they don't want pixel counting" etc. Even RedGamingTech's twitter said it, then they saw this tweet and took it back lol.

Sony first party will show us how the SSD tech can be utilized to amazing extent. That being said, because it is first party there will be no basis of comparison.
Both console's will have games that show off their strengths.
That being said, I'm pretty hungry for all this SSD talk and how it will change games. It better be on show and it better be different from what we see now. I don't wan't to see an example of faster loading. I want to see stuff 'not possible on other consoles.'

I'll take the suspense off for you.

Epic had to rewrite the Unreal Engine 5 for PS5 SSD
"The ability to stream in content at extreme speeds enables developers to create denser and more detailed environments, changing how we think about streaming content. It’s so impactful that we’ve rewritten our core I/O subsystems for Unreal Engine with the PlayStation 5 in mind," Penwarden said.

So based on this, Swede, we can clearly see that the best PC can't even keep up with the architecture. Now due to Nintendo and Microsoft also having a hand in Epic's engine, they have to be conservative of what they say about these competitor's systems in relation to Sony’s system, but they pretty much make it know that it holds a pretty large advantage, not that we didn't know this before based on the specifications. But then there's this:

Microsoft executive says developers will address load times for PS5 SSD
Bill Stillwell: I’ll say two things with that. One, I understand that its a marketing point and I think I said in the last Podcast we did, I’m really impressed in the archeticture they did with their drive and they’ll be able to do really cool stuff with it. I also don’t think it’s as impressive over what you’ll be able to do what the Series X has done and so I have high confident in that team. I will also say, look I reserve the right to wake up smarter tomorrow and someone may prove me wrong and we’ll learn. The one thing I have learned is I’v never underestimated game developers to take advantage of something and work around it, but that works on both sides. And so the ability of a game developer to look and say “okay I’m building this game and I want to have seamless transition with no loading screens on PlayStation, but I’m also gonna want to sell on an Xbox, what am I going to do to manage that kind of thing?” Like that will be the trick and the techniques, and so maybe, I’m just making this up, but maybe there are elevators in the Xbox version and not the Sony version. I don’t know how they’re gonna address it, but they will learn to address it and they will figure out ways to work around it, and that’s where you’ll get these economies of these statement of absolute versus what we can actually do when these games releases

Now, lets forget about the fact that he even believes elevator rides will be in the game or load times. Period. Sony's SSD is designed to stream large amounts of information to the game on the fly. So this goes beyond just load times. What i need you to focus on is the fact that even he believes their SSD is outgunned to the SSD in the PS5. That in itself tells me that their primary goal for the SSD was not meant to stream data that fast into a game, which leaves me to believe that the rest of the hardware is going to have to carry that load, which will give it and the games running on it limitations for those environments.

It better be well demonstrated then. If the disparity between speed and efficiency in the PS5 and Xbox SX is this great we should see it in most games.
Seriously. I'm ready to be blown away.

I agree but I'm also willing to wait for that stuff to come from time spent with the system vs expecting it all with the launch line up.

I totally agree with this.

Sony’s in-house developers build a lot of their own software tools that are coded more to the metal, so I'm not expecting them to rely on the Unreal Engine software at all due to the multiple platforms it has to cater to. So I am expecting something much better than this come release. Of course, though, i don't expect developers to master the system's architecture by launch, which i think some people are. There is a reason the Last of Us 2 looks better than Killzone 4. Over time, these worlds are going to become super impressive once developers start getting really comfortable with the hardware.

I am going with fake numbers.

The PlayStation 5 will feature an unusual 825GB SSD, which is an annoying compromise between performance, capacity, and price. Sony said during its dull PS5 hardware event that the 825GB custom drive fits well with the hardware, and is enough to satisfy the storage needs of gamers.

The obvious choice would be $500 but if they cost more than XSX it won't be more than $550.
(So $50 more)

I would pay for a bigger SSD package and am planning on buying extra External memory SSD cards for my XSX as well.
Yup same here. I am going with max storage, even if I have to buy cards.
