Official Thread Playstation VR

I agree with all that -- I think Kodera is essentially saying what House said -- except for the last paragraph, which is just the author's interpretation. My interpretation is that House/Kodera are saying they wish the VR market in general was flourishing -- that is, Oculus, Vive, etc. I don't hear him "begging MS or Nintendo to enter the VR market," though.

The Rescue Mission from Playroom VR is getting a full game! Everyone I demo this to is always blown away, it looks like a Mario type adventure. The demo has probably the best graphics on PSVR. Really a looker inside the headset, super immersive.

Hands on previews below. This is huge for PSVR. Imagine the NES launching with only a first level demo of Mario and then it actually coming out. There were dozens of top rated posts on reddit for months "when is the Rescue Mission full game coming?" etc

The game is simply delightful. Every aspect of the game is well thought out from the music to the level design, and the developers take full advantage of the PSVR HMD and the DualShock 4 with their unique gameplay mechanics.

While Astro Bot: Rescue Mission may at first glance seem like a game that could exist outside of VR or a game that shouldn’t be in VR at all. But to dismiss its innovations as gimmicks and its charm as meaningless would be a profound disservice.

Right, well that's a hellava paraphrase on my part. :) My point is that PSVR is much more capable of coming close to mainstream, not because of the tech, but because it's much more approachable in console form. There only real competition for the time being will either be a standalone headset with enough horsepower (vaporware) or another console, IMO.

Probably a good assessment of the situation. It'll be interesting to when/if MS enters the market. Nintendo has signaled a lack of interest, which makes sense, since they lag technologically and appeal to a less hardcore crowd.

Right, I think that both are also weary of being associated another flash in the pan Wii/Kinect craze, and spinning gaming off into something else again. (not that I personally relate these things with VR, as I've always seen them as input methods looking for a purpose) Spencer has been full of mixed messages, but yeah, it'll definitely be interesting to see what he and Alex Kipman finally see eye to eye on, if ever. They both mentioned wireless, so at least you know there was a goal in mind, at some point.

Sorry to drag this thread away from PSVR too much. Again, I think Sony needs competition, as does the entire industry. Sony is probably mostly what's keeping VR alive right now, IMO.

Another game out of nowhere I haven't heard of:

Creed: Rise to Glory

I wasn’t sure what to expect as I donned the PS VR headset, but Creed proved that boxing is an outstanding fit for the VR hardware. The dual PS Move motion controllers capably handled blocking and punching, while leaning back and to the side dodged incoming blows. It felt natural, intuitive, and utterly unique.

Creed is no flail-fest, either. I quickly learned to scan my opponent, searching for stance vulnerabilities, while always remembering to keep my hands up for defense. As my confidence grew, I started hammering away with 3- and 4-hit combos, and sneaking in jabs whenever he revealed a cheekbone or eyebrow.

Creed is one of my favorite VR experiences to date, and a great workout routine to boot — I was a sweaty mess after just one match. This one’s going to be a crowd pleaser.

Also, PSVR demos of Wipeout and Zone of the Enders are up. I can't even play Wipeout without VR anymore. Ruined.

It's like a console within a console. One could argue PSVR's exclusives rival other consoles by itself. I noticed several games missing from this trailer, but it's not bad.

Surprise PSVR announcement for this. Comes out tomorrow in EU. I was on the fence, but now since its in VR its a must buy for me.

VR is dead!

E3 2018 Bethesda: Skyrim VR, Fallout 4 VR, And DOOM VFR Have All Sold ‘Really Well’

“We were really pleased with how the three of those turned out on their various platforms,” said Hines. “We’re aware of all the, ‘Well, what else is Skyrim coming out on?’ jokes, but that version [VR] was a really good version of that game. DOOM VFR, Fallout 4 VR, we’re just really pleased with how all of those performed and were received. We’re going to continue to look at VR like we do at all platforms in terms of what’s a good fit for that platform and seeing what we’ve got and can it work.”
“They’ve done really well,” Hines said. “Skyrim rocketed right to the top on PSVR and stayed there, when we released Fallout 4 VR on Steam it shot to the top and stayed there. When we released Skyrim VR on PC it did too, DOOM VFR has done really well. When it comes to any install base more is always better, but yeah, they did well.”

For a big publisher like Bethesda to say a game sold really well is huge for VR, not to mention they are continuing to support it 2019 with 3 games at least.

Rainbow Six in VR. For those of you that have used the AIM controller, you know how exciting this is.

Skyrim VR is on sale for $30 on the PS store (along with tons of other games). Very tempting. Only problem is I think this is my 3rd copy of the game I'm buying :)

If you have any desire to do a 3rd play through it might be worth it VR. I love it personally. And if you have ps4pro it doesn't look bad now after the latest patch and considering it's locked 60fps.

Nice write up that reviews the PSVR's current state. 4.5/5 stars

PlayStation VR is a wholly new platform that embodies so much of what made the original PlayStation so great – it's innovative, smart and easy-to-use. It's affordable and already has a growing catalogue of must-play titles. It's a far cry from a complete package – and in some ways fails to live up to the high bar set by the HTC Vive – but, for $100 less than an Oculus Rift, I'm not complaining.

I love the reference to PS1, it really feels like that to me. I know we'll get better technology next gen, but there's something special about being first to VR or 3D in the Ps1's case, you can tell developers have a certain freshness to work with the tech that assists with creativity.
