True but you have a unit that has a UHDDVD drive and the other one don't for the same price that alone moves some units.
Also, people have more 4k then you think. Bestbuy has so many of them and gets returned because there is no 4k content. That is not the case anymore and also you have HDR which it checks all their boxes with a very good price and you can see why it sold well.
XBO S outsold PS4 in NA I think 3 months straight and I think the UHDBR player had much to do with it
This isn't a sales thread so I'm not trying to derail it, I just don't think pricing Scorpio over $400 is a wise move no matter what the features are.
Factoring inflation the 360 launched for ($500) with PS3 right on the horizon. Scorpio will be the most powerful console for at least 2 years if not more. Think it'll be wise if it's powerful.
I can't image it will be for every game, but there are numerous cases of better performance for BC games on the One, so there is a level of precedent. I would also expect games coming out from now till release to get a boost. Certainly all MS's First party games will as they are planning on Scorpio. One of the reasons I am still buying multiplats on the One S is the hope that they will receive some form of upgrade in future. Kinda like BF1 gets for the Pro.Do you have a link saying all old games/BC will get increased performance?
Cause that would be huge for me.
No, just the display needs a processing chip to unpack the metadata. Any console out there today has the processing overhead to do Dolby Vision. It's not really that demanding. The Xbox S could easily do this, if they decided to add it.Not that easy as it has to have the hardware already.

Well, if we want more than pretty shaders, then let's keep our fingers crossed for a better CPU. It would be pretty unbalanced with the Jaguar, and Phil has made the point about balance this time...It already is powerful based on the GPU alone. The 360 would have failed had it launched for $500, as it is it took a little while to really get going.
The device has to have the hardware built in.They are adding Atmos. I don't even think Dolby Vision is available on UHD Blu-ray yet, unless it just came out. They could just as easily add it to the software if there was enough demand. That means it would also be available on the S. Not really a huge feat, imo.
The Xbox One outsold the PS4 for the second half of 2016 in NA.Three months straight and it was a new piece of hardware which likely also had a lot original X1's traded in towards the newer model and those 3 (I think it was actually 4 months, not sure) were mostly during the summer when console sales are generally down anyway. PS4 sold more than X1 during the holiday period.

No, the TV needs the hardware built in, not the player because there has to be decoding of the metadata on the receiving end. Why on earth would the player need anything more than the hardware that is already in a console? That makes absolutely no practical sense. A console can't process a simple video encode? I just can't see how that is possible. The device has to have the hardware built in.
Nothing can get the upgrade unless its there already from reading through the threads
on my TV(the only TV to get it that I am aware of)They say the TV had the hardware all along but Sony and Dolby didn't come to terms until it was announced this Jan @ CES.
No UHDBR player that doesn't say its getting it will get it as the hardware isn't there.
I wish it was that easy cause than I could just keep this Samsung UHDBR player.
They were made with support for Dolby Vision its future update was in the specifications. In addition to the last thread and Dolby Vision, I just noticed 2 UHD Blu-ray players added support for Dolby Vision. They are LG and Oppo models. It's not really some impossible thing. Anything with HDMI 2.0 out and a bit of processing power should do it with no problem. It's the TV that needs decoding hardware!

4K sets are basically all that's sold anymore, the problem for 4K blu ray is there isn't a very good selection of movies right now, I have a 4K blu ray player I got in December for under $250 and haven't even taken it out of the box yet lol.. Just look at this past holiday, the One S has UHD blu ray but the PS4 sold more units. The early sales likely had a lot of people trading in older model X1 units to "upgrade" to the smaller newer console as well. As time goes on UHD players are going to get cheaper and cheaper, there are already a few that are on the market for $300 or less and there will probably be more by the time Scorpio comes out.

X1 has done well in NA since it came out so I don't know why people act so shocked when it wins a couple of months. MS problem is convincing the rest of the world to care.
Too powerfulHey everybody, ok now predict why will it suck for some.
Educated guesses based on the past slams on every MS console please.
No changeable faceplates this time?
Too big, too small, too black too white, not a Playstation...
