He didn't answer it in the plain English way you wanted him to. That's not his fault. Anybody can understand you'll be getting some type of a benefit on a 1080 set but NOT what the system was designed for.

It's rather simple.

the dude is pretty open it seems. I'll bet he'll answer the questions coming up. Nobody even knows the units price or final specs so anyone talking is simply just guessing.

ohhh ok my bad my mistake. Anyway we'll see how this turns out. what I want to know is how the system will work. Exp will it have an 1080P mode. So if I don't want 4K will a game then use the extra power to make my game ran at a higher FPS? I'll take a higher FPS in a game over 4K even if I own a 4K TV. I'm looking forward to it just to see how it turns out. I won't be buying one as I don't like this stop gap console. I don't like the idea of this or Neo
If you buy a Scorpio and have a 1080p television, your content will output in 1080p. If you have a 4K set, you'll get the full benefit of the Scorpio. Bells and whistles will be there regardless and probably moreso on the Scorpio. The best thing about all this is, every game will work on every Xbox console.

Xbox One
Xbox One S
Scorpio.

The games will scale according to the console(s) you own. Thats super sick, IMO.

DM, he's simply speaking about resolutions, man. Thats it. He's not speaking about visual fidelity. Youre taking his statement out of context, or over thinking this whole thing. Neither are beneficial for recent news.

Probably just overthinking it. But when someone says benefits, I would interpret it to be the meaning that encompasses it all and not just on resolution. That's what happens on a boring day of work hah. It was fun while it lasted.

So why push the buy the Xbox One S, not the Scorpio if you have a 1080p set agenda. If we all should already know that the Scorpio will be beneficial on 1080p sets, why should we and would we get the Xbox One S if it's the same thing as the Xbox One out now.

Yeah, over thinking s*** can be a doozy. I lost out on so much p**** over thinking s*** before I got married. Damn.

That's fine but the message Phil seems to be giving off in that interview is that you will only see the benefits if you have a 4K TV: "Clearly, you can buy Scorpio, and if and when you decide you want to buy a 4K television to take advantage of the increased performance, obviously the console will be ready for you." He seems to pushing the agenda that you won't see any increased benefits if you don't have a 4K TV so buy the Xbox One S. But If he added "of course, the Scorpio will also show natural progressional benefits on a 1080p set but for what we've designed the console for, a 4K TV will be needed." I would be fine with that as the message is clearer.

No, you wouldn't. Then it would be "he's trying to convince them to spend the extra hundreds of dollars for a benefit that they won't even notice and their fans spent years claiming didn't matter lol."

The message, in my opinion, is clear as f***ing day: "We are selling consoles, we have Windows 10, we want you to play your games with us wherever the f*** you feel like it." Because it's not in line with the green vs. blue plastic dick waving contest, or perhaps your position in that contest, maybe that isn't obvious.

You get the S if you havent jumped in yet, not to mention its the cheapest 4K device on the market today. That will sell the S alone.

The Scorpio is still eighteen months out. Just do what I'm gonna do. Im getting the S this year, and will trade it in when the Scorpio releases so I dont miss out on any games in the coming months.

What is the resolution above 1440p? 2xxx, will be sweet spot, high resolution and room to play with effects and fps

Because one is $299 and the other is going to cost a lot more and come out a year later?

Who the hell says the S is the same as what's out now? It's not. Also, the Xbox that's "out now" is done. It will not be produced any longer. The S is the baseline Xbox One.

Reading around the net, it seems that many of the people who are seemingly "confused" are people that have a preference to a PlayStation console.

You still won't miss anything. No one gets left behind!

This discussion hurts my feeble yet pulsating brain.

Was this ever an issue when the last gen started with HDTVs?

The Scorpio is powerful. Let's say 100 units of power. How that power is dispensed over a game is up to the devs. 80 units to visuals? There's your 4k. And if you don't have a 4K TV, that won't really matter to you.

But disperse that 100 units over 1080/60, everything jacked up, more intelligent AI, more enemies on screen, etc, and it benefits everyone that doesn't have 4K. Those games won't matter as much for those with a 4K tv (but maybe can be upscaled?), but will to everyone else.

So yes it's for 4K, or much more in-depth gaming at 1080/60...whatever the developer chooses to use that power for. I can't wait to see gonsole gaming do what my buddy's $1500 PC setup can do right now, and maybe more. Patience!

I'm also curious to see what Sony does with that 70 units :hehe: Oh wait, we just did.

If he said something along the lines of what I said, I would because then I'd be like damn, Phil is so transparent. What a great guy (I still think he is a great guy for the record). I just think that he could be presenting his messages clearer in interviews.

Nah, I'll be getting all Xbox exclusives on the PC now since they made it open to the platform from now till whenever they decide to stop. :bang:

I think some of this confusion (aside from the obvious self inflicted suffering) comes from the argument that frames and resolution = graphical fidelity. It doesnt. Their different elements of any one game. Many have been saying this for the last 3 years.

ohhh ok my bad my mistake. Anyway we'll see how this turns out. what I want to know is how the system will work. Exp will it have an 1080P mode

XB1 got a 720p and 1080p mode

I'm sure Scorpio will have 720p and 1080p and 4K + 4K HDR.
No need to have any costumer returning bco they got an older tv. It will need hdmi in though and it will most likely decide what tv you got. But on my 1080p panny i can force X1 to 720p mode.. I've just tried ☺

Remember alot of those consoles will go into the childrens room, even scorpion, where there's a lot of older and cheap TVs. The kids brag until mom buys one and hook it up in their room to and old tv and all are happy. We still got an old 720p panny in one of The children's room.

I don't think you'll be able to change fps, you can't force a 60fps game to run 30fps on X1

I think this whole mid- generation upgrade thing is going to create some unique situations and questions.

I don't see anything confusing so far though.

Oh, it'll be the new base model? Damn.

What if you already have an Xbox One? The Xbox One S won't have much benefits at all over the present model aside from 4K viewing? From what I know, it's the internalized power brick and 40% smaller?

I'd like to think the Scorpio is future proof as well for easy upgrades, sounds like it

Style, HDD capacity, size, some games will run better, internal brick, 4K Blu-ray drive, 4K output. Those are the biggies.

Style - It's in white, and still has that horrible two tone crap. No improvement here.
HDD capacity - Not really. The current console can have much more capacity via external storage. Plus, 2TB really isn't all that much. Yeah yeah, you meant internal smernal.
Better Performance - We shall see. I doubt the improvement will be significant in general. Hopefully I will be proven wrong.
4K - Totally irrelevant to the majority. Not even that much content to use on it anyway.

He asked what the benefits were. He got them.

I hope they use the considerable extra power for a locked 60 FPS, no tearing and top quality AA on all games. If it has to 'only' be 1080p or even a down sampled 1080p then I can live with that.

I thought the comments from Microsoft about exclusive Scorpio games were strange. There will be exclusive Scorpio games if VR headsets are compatible with the console as they are suggesting, those VR games won't be made for regular Xbox One.

I'd say MS would pay a dev to upgrade the game for Scorpio. Unless Scorpio sells like crazy 3rd devs are not going to invest money upgrading a game unless it's free and quick stuff like 4K res and 60FPS.

You don't think one of these developers that also sell their game engines will not want to push the hardware to its limits in order to license the engine to other developers? It's not all about making money on the game.

Allow me to paraphrase for Menace.

Ahem

"Wahghh wahgh eahh myahjhh. "

He managed to turn everything positive you said, into something that requires immediate attention from the WAAAAHmbulance.

He could also be classified as "that dude that only got invited to a party once" and "oh, him... The guy that complained about every item on the menu"

Also, we all know the Neo is coming, and one of the big selling points will be VR and 4K. So I'm sure Phil will keep repeating some of these points during interviews.

He has a big one today at 6, so I'm curious to see what he has to say today. He's already been a little uncharacteristically Phil by taking a shot at Sony's lack of release dates.
