PS4 beating Xbox One on purchase interest worldwide

These threads are always so rife with pure speculations.

What that number tells me is that Sony did a massive job of preparing for launch. Most of those past consoles could have sold that many if they had that amount of stock allocations. If that is sold to customers and not the infamous shipped numbers Sony hit the ground running.

Shhhhh

You're far too logical.

I've gotta Sony props for running a flawless PR campaign, Focusing on the gamers was a smart move.

I know from my small circle of gamer friends that none are interested in the XB1 which led to me cancelling my preorder and waiting to see which console they go for... They all brought Xb360's and loved them but the funny thing is, they all say the same thing... Don't want Kinect, Why should you pay more for a lesser gaming experience, Not interested in the TV features. The price difference is the biggest hurdle for MS to overcome £80 more expensive (UK here) that is a PS4 with 2 games.

Honestly MS would be better dropping Kinect at this point, Sell the console for cheap as possible I'm sure they could given that Kinect is more expensive to produce then the console they could easily beat Sony on price.

I have a friend that works for GameUK and they said that the level of interest for PS4 is crazy, They aren't sure if they can fill all the preorders before Christmas and that is before you consider walk-ins. They do have a lot of preorders for XB1 but no where near PS4 level.

Just reading all the positive press Sony was getting it does not surprise me. I think once the x1 is in people's home and their friends start to see the multimedia stuff and games the word of mouth will help. In the end I hope they both do well.
A similar thing happened with the 360.

It's not hard to see why. Sony just had to say more powerful and less expensive and let word of mouth go from there. These two factors alone play a substantial role in the increased popularity of the PS4 over Xbox One.

I don't mind the Kinect for things like the Fitness apps and the voice commands, but I think the price tag is too much. I never intend to use Kinect for gaming purposes, at all.

I think an avg consumer wanting a nice blu ray player that can play apps like Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, NFL Network, etc, will buy a PS4. I don't know of any avg consumer that will want to pay $100 extra just to get the voice command features of the X1.

Think about it people. Non-gamers who want an entertainment box can get a PS4 and not have to buy a yearly sub to their live service unlike MSFT who charges extra for their Xbox Live Service for access to apps such as Netflix, NFL, etc.

EDIT:

Xbox One is selling home automation with their system. PS4 is selling games and entertainment, without the automation.

Is it unique to walk into your room and say Xbox On and it comes on? Sure. Is it worth it to pay extra money when pressing buttons does the same thing? Is it worth it to have the luxury of using voice commands instead of pressing buttons?

I think people underestimate the avg consumer, they're not gonna buy into the automation tech that MSFT keeps trying to push with the X1.

or get a roku far cheaper for the same thing, you know because they are non gamers.

I agree with dread. The $100 price difference is going to play a big roll.

As much as people want to argue, Microsoft has not shown the value of the xb1 on a price basis against the ps4 to the general consumer.

Personally, I think Pachter was right on the money on this weeks bonus round in regards to Microsoft's launch strategy http://www.gametrailers.com/full-episodes/qv8vf9/bonus-round-xbox-s-money-war

It's actually a really good episode.

drop Kinect and the price and while it's probably too late, should have dropped $100 and jus ate the loss because we know Microsoft could easily do it.

I don't think they should drop Kinect but I do think they should eat the $100 . If this is truely tech they want to be committed to they will have to . While what Pachter said about a free year of xbox live would be great it still isn't a $100 value . Now a year of free add the remainder of in Digital store currency to get the ball rolling on digital sales could help .

Either way they need to eat $100 by taking a hit on the hardware or a hit on their digital economy .

XB1 definitely has a uphill (cliff) battle with this. PS4 pretty much outsold all past console launch month in 1 day.

Good numbers but doesn't prove anything. PSP did better than DS and in the end DS killed it. Dreamcast once held the record for day one sales, dead as the dodo now and the PS2 did worse (500,000 units) than the Xbox and GameCube and we all know how that Gen ended.

Can't wait to see what X1 sales are. PS4 sold 1M in a handful of days, so according to just about every poll showing PS4 beating X1 by a 3:1 or 4:1 ratio, X1 sales in the same number of days should sell about 300,000.

We'll have to wait and see how internet poll ratios compare against real life sales.

PS4 sold over a million in one day.
False. Many people had been playing PS4 for days leading up to Nov 15. Gamers who somehow got early access to the system (insider), or was able to buy it early from shops.

Never the less, it will be interesting how those 3:1 and 4:1 ratio polls compare to actual sales between PS4 and X1. A good correlation means X1 will only sell about 300,000 in the same time span.

That image leaves out PS2 and Dreamcast unfortunately :(

I don't get why anyone would be surprised by this. Especially considering the PlayStation 4's lower price and stronger hardware.

Also, even if you agreed with Microsoft's original vision for Xbox One (such as discless gaming, in addition to the DRM), you must admit it didn't go over too well with the public, so Sony also took a PR advantage.

That said, the numbers don't actually look that bad, and reflect along the lines of the sales I'd expect.

Furthermore, Microsoft will have plenty of time to play catch up, and with some clever business tactics. In fact, I have faith that Microsoft will be an example to everyone on why competition is a good thing for gamers.

My store has more X1's in stock for release day and more preorders. Now, 4 months ago, it was 2 to 1 ps4, then all of a sudden we got a huge influx of X1 preorders. It'll be a launch for the record book (tech already is).

Nope it sold over a million in 24 hours.

EDIT: google isn't on your side....besides the local news and GTTV reporting exactly what I said.

I still find it funny how our store has 20 preorders still waiting to be purchased/picked-up. Though, I wonder if it counts if they were paid off in full.

The Dreamcast was dead because of the rampant pirating right (and played DVD's)?

Avg consumer dont know what the hell a Roku is. LOL.

Average gamer doesn't know all that kinect 2.0 has to offer....nor care. In the end, they will care more about gaming, and less about looking at HBO while waiting in a game lobby.

I would of thought that after eating crow about there being more PS3's sold then 360's that you would have learned not to count your chickens before they've hatched.
PS3 out sells the 360 year to year and will have more lifetime total sales then the 360.
That's what I said a year ago and that's still what I'm saying.
