This is a compilation of some of the more promising "indie" games coming to PS4. I'm using "indie" loosely to describe a size of game rather than type of developer. Some come from major development houses like Ubisoft. This is far from a complete list. Feel free to create other threads for individual games, if you like. All discussion doesn't need to go here.

Abe's Oddysee: New n' Tasty

A remake of Abe's Oddysee, the PS1 classic, about an ugly but loveable alien fighting beauracracy or however you spell that.

2w7m.jpg

Child of Light

A whimsical, artsy mix of platforming, exploration, and turn-based RPG, developed by Ubisoft.

y7pa.jpg

Counterspy

Sleath action game. Cartoonish visuals. 60s spy thriller vibe.

tMzGsU6.jpg

Don't Starve

Survival game that keeps you busy collecting, building, killing, etc., in order not to starve.

rIUq7sS.jpg

Galak-Z

Space shooter.

UxkvSAJ.png

Hohokum

No score, time limit, or tutorial. The game is about "relaxing in a space and just enjoying the experience and the music, instead of trying to complete it to make progress."

Octodad: The Deadliest Catch

The hook here seems to be the way Octodad moves and the humor involved. The object, I think, is to not have Octodad (who is an octopus in disguise) fall all over the place and give himself away.

zqij.jpg

Outlast

First-person survival horror game in which you have no combat abilities. Run away.

hvif.jpg

Pavilion

You manipulate the environment in order to "guide the main character on the path towards truth." Seems to have a rather dreamy aesthetic.

Pinball Arcade

Re-creation of classic pinball gaming. Out already.

qtmp.jpg

Ray's The Dead

You are Ray, and you have a bunch of zombie friends, each with their own unique abilities.

7k4w.jpg

Resogun

Out already. Well reviewed space shooter.

oqv8.jpg

Rime

From the spanish studio that did Deadlight. It's looking like a platformer, fantasy adventure game. Main character is on an island. Some mild combat may be involved. Seems a bit like Ico, on first glance.

Starbound

"Extra-terrestrial sandbox adventure game." Explore a procedurally generated universe.

J4szsjy.jpg

Secret Ponchos

You are an outlaw with a bounty on your head. You fight other guys with bounties on their heads. You win, your bounty increases. Twin-stick shooter.

6xem.jpg

Transistor

Science fiction turn-based strategy game from Supergiant (Bastion).

v6fp.jpg

Trine 2

Puzzle platformer with RPG elements. You use one of three characters, each with their own abilities, to navigate the world.

k7e5.jpg

Valliant Hearts: The Great War

From Ubisoft, an adventure/puzzler set during World War I. Play as five different characters, each with a different nationality and set of abilities. Plus a dog that serves as the binding thread. The game has a light visual style, with the darkness of the war as background.

The Witness

Puzzle-adventure game from Jonathan Blow (Braid). You find yourself on a deserted island. It is divided into ten sections arranged around a mountain that represents the ultimate goal.

Outlast is on PC right now, but I don't have the hardware for it right now. Outlast and Rine are my two expected titles for the PS4 right now. And given how the PS4 is practically an AMD PC, I'd love to see as any of PC's indies games all getting ported over to the PS4, including a good lot of the Greenlit games.

I'd definitely want to play the oddworld 1 remake. abe's oddysey is one of my most remembered ps1 games.

From the shots above, Trine 2 also seems to have a cool art style, so that'd be another i would check out.

Thanks for doing this! After having the best time with Flower and continually getting my ass handed to me on BF4 and realizing how deep a lot of games have gotten these days (do we really need 150 different types of guns?), it looks like I'll be playing mostly indies this generation as the arcade is what got me into gaming in the first place in the 80's. At the end of the a long day of work, something simple and pick up and play is what I need and I am excited about this generation being able to provide this more than ever.

Any word on Pinball Arcade? That drops tomorrow and I'll probably pick it up.

Yeah, that's part of the appeal for me, too. I still enjoy the full-fledged, $60, 20 hr. game experience, the ones you sink weeks into, but as I get older, I like the idea of a game that provides an entire experience in a few hours, or that I can just pick up and play for a while, and that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

Pinball Arcade sounds pretty good.

"IGN gave 9/10 for the PC and PS4 version of The Pinball Arcade and concluded: "For pinball fanatics or just those curious about gaming’s relatively low-tech past, Pinball Arcade is an excellent starting point for re-experiencing the golden days of quarter-munchers."

Just a heads up that flOw, Pinball Arcade and Zen Pinball 2 all come out today on PSN. Look forward to hearing any impressions. I will probably pick up two of these.

Three games that are already available on PS3. Doubtful they will be improved on much. So just read up on the PS3 reviews.

Just read the IGN Pinball Arcade review for PS4 and it sounds like they improved it quite a bit. Flow doesn't look like my type of game but Flower is amazing so maybe I'll check out the demo...

A couple others coming in 2014 from Ubisoft (more info on both games in the recent GI):

Child of Light

A whimsical, artsy mix of platforming, exploration, and turn-based RPG. Reminds me of a fairy tale. Dialog is in rhyme. It is developed by the creative team behind Far Cry 3.

Here's a nice little developer-led demo:

And then also,

Valliant Hearts: The Great War

Another one from Ubisoft. This is an adventure/puzzler set 100 years ago, in WWI. It's a game that emphasizes characters, as you'll see from the trailer. There are 5 characters, each with a different nationality, and a dog that appears in each story and serves as the binding thread. The characters each have different abilities. Eventually their stories all come together. The game has a light visual style, but the darkness of the war is background.

Good trailer:

I'm personally really interested in both of these titles.

Never heard of these games, but Valiant Hearts looks great!

Man I was watching Outlast on Twitch tonight. I really want this game on PS4 Now.

I could get it on PC. But I want in on PS4 damn it.

It does. I'm wondering how the mix of light comic visual style and dark war themes will work. I wouldn't mind if they leaned a little toward the serious/dark.

In other news, The Witness current puzzle count is 595.
http://the-witness.net/news/2013/12/its-been-a-while-since-we-did-an-island-snapshot/

That'll keep you busy.

I'm actually looking forward to this.. although from what they've shown.. it's the same type of puzzle over and over again. Don't really care, just looks cool to wander that Island.

Yeah. It reminds me a little of Myst, which is one of the first games I played. Puzzles on a deserted island.

Don't Starve is cool, and it's coming out next month for PS Plus.
It's a survival game in which your goal is to...not starve.

Went back and added games to the OP, then alphabetized them. I originally tried to create a new thread with Youtube links for all of them, but the site won't accept more than 5 media links per post, and it was slowing down the loading too much anyway. And I lost all the comments here. So I scrapped that and instead just re-organized this thread, minus all the youtube links.

Games added to OP - Galak Z, Don't Starve, Pinball Arcade, Trine 2, Valliant Hearts, Resogun, Pavillion, Starbound, and Counterspy.

Some of these indie games look really fun. Is Resogun really that good?
It's good, but bite sized for sure unless you are one of those people who like to score chase. I think Galak-Z is going to be amazing though and have much more depth.

Looks like the first half of Octodad is good, the second half not so much.

"Octodad: Dadliest Catch has moments of comic brilliance, but much of it is uninspired, and it ends before it really even gets going." Score = 6.

Very nice. I still have a feeling that this game will make my brain hurt, though.
