Wow. :surprise: This deserves its own thread.

Is this the biggest launch in console history? It did better than the PS2! And for reference the 360 sold through 326K in the first 24 hrs in NA.

Not surprising....

It'll be interesting to see how things turn out later this week. I Expect X1 not as high but much higher than 360...

IMHO - Both manufacturers have learned to get fully prepped this time around to meet demand...

Great launches for both and a huge indicator that the industry is quite alive considering many analysts predicted the death of console gaming not too long ago...

the reason you see this number is because we were far long over due for a next gen system, I see no difference with XBOX.

Yeah I agree it really shows the industry is very much alive. It was dead in my household because I got tired of 6-7 year old graphics. Last gen was too long. Looks like there is a sleeping giant of people out there that were waiting to get their hands on a new system.

PS4 has built itself some serious momentum, great news.

I think some credit is due to their competition and their lack of further educating the consumer (not everyone visits forums and reads articles), that's not to take anything away from Sony but the E3 clusterf*** from MS helped Sony and made Sony's E3 a lot easier for them to win many people, even Xbox fans.

yoshida is lying.

The numbers seem too high for you to accept them?

The biggest thing for sony atm is the price, 399 is a decent entry price point. Not everyone watches E3 either, for many people making their decision watching the consoles demo'ed at game stores, the 100 usd cheaper ps4 plays out in favor of sony.

Regarding those sold numbers, yoshida should provide some proof of numbers and that those sold within the first hour of the midnight launch. Looks to me he's blabbering on twitter.

Did a little digging. This is indeed the biggest U.S./Canadian launch in console history.

For reference, it took the original Wii 8 days after launch to sell through 600K in NA.

Given that it sold 3X the number of 360 (where there is no competition), this is nothing short of amazing.

Interesting to see MS figures, but I have a feeling, we get more in line of 'XBOX sold better than expected' than an actual number, as I highly doubt the sales # will be even close, but I am happy to be proven wrong.

I'll be shocked if MS sells 600,000 in the first 24. No way in hell they're going to be reporting that number though.

I predict 1/2 that number actually. But let see.

In any case, if MS cannot get even half the sales of Sony, in their home turf, where they rule(d),then, its very worrying sales figure for the rest of the world.

But this maybe good news for gamer, as they will be forced to lower the price sooner than expected.

I remember going around to various BestBuys on launch day for the Wii... of the 4 I visited average received on launch was around 30-40 consoles each store...

The Best Buy I was at yesterday received 160 PS4s on launch by comparison.

They had 100 preordered and sold thru the remaining 60 early yesterday ...

....and so it begins.
Sony has gamer mindshare and price factor in their favor.

Anyone who expects the XB1 to sell nearly as much is kidding themselves.

Xbox 360 was sold out for 3 months after launch. Their memory yields were the limiting reagent; do you remember people paid $1,200 for 360s?

It's still early days, as a matter of fact, we're just starting and the Xbox has yet to start.

We shouldn't be too quick to assume.

Agreed - while waiting on BB reps yesterday (was packed) - there were a LOT of people there looking at the demo and asking about next week's release....

From what I saw - there is just as much interest in the X1 as there is in the PS4...

And - these weren't kids or "gamers" - they were average consumers, parents, etc .. that wanted to buy the system today or wanted to guarantee a system at launch...

It will boil down to who can keep the stores fed with the demand and advertising (right now I'm seeing a 2:1 blitz average on TV from MS... I expect we will all be sick of X1 advertising by EOW :)

Long term - as pointed out - if X1 doesn't sell near as much by EOY - expect a price drop and a huge push into the Titanfall release.... :)

Competition is good for us the consumers... :D

Fantastic time to be a gamer....

I suspect PS4 launch will be biggest, yet X1 launch will be much closer to PS4 than Wii U. Expecting 700,000-800,000 on the first day.

that's great new for gamers I see One doing the same too or selling out of whatever stock MS puts out.

You're expecting X1 to sell only 50-60% of what PS4 sold, in NA? That's rather far-fetched.

I'm not expecting 1M within 24 hours, simply due to the price difference, and the fact that the PS4 was released one week prior. However, I can see X1 selling 700-800K in the same time period, which are still huge numbers.

What I'm more interested in is seeing how the public at large has changed since the last generation launched. What are the demographics of console purchasers today? Will Microsoft's gamble on TV integration pay off for the company? Will PS4 owners use media streaming services as much as X1 owners will?

Affirmative!

Anyone doubting MS marketing and the XO at this point, without the XO even being released yet is seriously fooling themselves. NO WAY would I bet against Microsoft. Amazing numbers for the PS4 to be sure, but keep the dreamscaping in check.

Congrats to Sony. 1 mil in 24 hours is amazing. I think it's a combo of people just looking forward to something new with last generation dragging on so long and Microsoft dropping the ball early with all the bad PR on the Xbox One. Either way it'll be fun so see how the One does next week.

If i had to bet i'd say the One does about 750k in 24 hours. I could be spot on or way off. $500 is a lot of money and even though it's just $100 more than the PS4 that's big for some people. Plus you have to factor in how many people already have a PS4 and may change their mind about getting a One now that they've started gaming on the PS4.

Timing and price are the two biggest factors. People can rant on about the games and features all they want. Not everyone is a hardcore gamer like we are. That stuff only matters to some of us these days.
