Despite publishing both Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps, it appears that Xbox will not be doing the same for Moon Studios' next title.

That game, while in very early stages, will not be a sequel to Ori and the Will of the Wisps, and is billed as a "grand vision" of an RPG that will push the boundaries of what the genre has offered the industry and gamers so far.

CEO of Moon Studios Thomas Mahler recently opened up about the decision to not partner with Xbox Game Studios this go-around. Mahler explained that he and the team have decided to partner with Private Division (publisher of games such as Hades and The Outer Worlds), mostly due to exclusivity reasons. He goes on to say that during Moon Studios' partnership with Microsoft, he and the team were inundated with fan requests to port the Ori titles over to PlayStation or Nintendo Switch so that the gamers who didn't own an Xbox console had the opportunity to experience them. While both Ori titles were eventually ported over to the Switch, Mahler says that this didn't come without a cost and was only able to happen because "the title was small enough to not cause any fuss."

I am fairly sure Ori success has a bit to do with XBOX supporting & promoting them. Now they are well known, they go on to bit the hand that fed them.

True, they even allowed them to port the games to other consoles….in a way it was more of a timed exclusive with initial marketing rights. Hopefully they get as much support or more with their new publisher.

yo, what if they show a trailer for their new game at the game awards

Well we don't know what the dealings entailed.
Something was sour for them to leave and them talking about pushing the boundaries seems to indicate MS gave them boundaries.

They did an interview and it just sounded like they were really against exclusivity, like they want it gone altogether so everyone can play any game on anything.

Read the topic Karma posted.

It's exactly that. They feel MS should go all in and release every MS title on all consoles.

It's more than that if they bring up pushing the boundaries after mentioning no longer being exclusive.

They just want to be multiplatform and have their games reach as many as possible, the artificial walls and boundaries might be because they couldn't release on PS?

Could the employee who left and the came back be Marcus Letho, he did mention something similar in an interview a whiles ago.

And the talks about the lore now makes sense since they hired someone to be entirely in charge of it all, kinda like Frankie at 343, since he’s been there since halo 2

It always makes me wonder how much this stuff is overblown. Everyone is so sensitive these days. It's tough to know if it's real or just the cry bullies taking over like they normally do.

"complex stories of microaggressions, systemic inequalities, and difficulties in being heard." Lol.

Always the same. Critical theory in practice. D&I director, bye bye Bungie. These things always make for far less comfortable work environments for everyone but serial complainers.
