MS sacked everyone except the one that should get the boot.

MS got a lifeline at beginning of season when supply for PS5 was limited to be respectable.

All they need was consistance flow of good exclusive titles....
They cannot secured 3rd party exclusives, slow and not critically acclaimed 1st parties. Their games are going PS5 (the other direction is not happening), and dev are questioning is it worth to have their game on Xbox consoles.
Sales of xbox consoles have nosedive year of year..

Some think I am a PS fanboy which is funny since I do not own a PS5, or have intention to own one. The "evidence" is I am harsh to MS than Sony. Sony are not contantly shooting their own foot.
First off, I think Sony is bad company, worse than MS when it come to anti-competition and consumer, but they are producing the hits.

I hate monopoly (everyone should), and MS is not provide meaningful compeition. I don't want a future where we have one firm dominated the console market.

You're not wrong.

Yeah I always laugh at how dead the switch section is here. I'm pretty sure several members here have one and game on it.

Maybe it's due to the lack of negativity towards that brand and Nintendo?
Yeah... it's a great console, but they don't make gaas games, so the hype dies pretty fast after newly released games and the good multiplatform games usually comes a few years after initial release (skyrim, witcher, doom etc).
It's great to play diablo 2/3, witcher, skyrim, disco elysium etc on it, but the buzz about those games are long gone.

Been s*** since he got the position.
Although I feel someone else is really making the decisions and he's the fall guy.

Xbox was way worse before he got the position

But he does take very little heat for any bad or questionable decisions that get made

There was a period of time yes, but he was also the head of studios during that time she he could have been part of the problem. For all his talk he hasn't really done much to fix anything other than open the checkbook. I saw someone on a podcast call him Phil Spender the other day and it made me laugh a little.

It's just insane to me that a company that has those resources and the technical talent in so many areas there can be so mismanaged. They haven't created a single new hit IP under his leadership and the ones they had have all dropped in popularity. Is that all on him? No, I'm sure it's not but he's the face of it and he has more power than Mattrick when he ran the show as well as being allowed to spend a lot more money.

I just did a quick search and I'm not going to pretend to know that these numbers are 100% accurate but from what I read Nintendo had 7k employees, PlayStation has 8K and Xbox has over 22k. Nintendo and Sony aren't all that far apart, but Xbox has to pay 7K more people than PlayStation and Nintendo combined and that's not counting outside contractors etc.

I would much rather be Nintendo or Sony currently when it comes to the gaming business, Xbox has grown so big through acquisitions that they have no choice but to release a lot of their games on other platforms, hell even without gamepass negatively impacting sales I think they'd have to at this point.

At least they had features and general X1 improvements like backwards compatibility. Which a massive reason its considered a standard. Regardless of whether game pass works out long term its still great to have now. Plus he deserves some credit for getting them to spend. They may have gone overboard as it turns out but they had to spend. First party was ridiculously barren and he inherited a mess.

But their studio management doesn't seem any better. I could believe all these new studios would work out really well if you could really point to many of the old ones as flourishing.

Yes he does deserve credit for getting them to finance it but he forgot that they need talent and a creative vision not just a checkbook. Yes the studios need to be given some freedom, at the same time there has to be a structure and expectations set.

He also does deserve credit for things like focusing on getting BC going even if that was mostly to try to cover for the lack of new content at the time. Whoever the guy was that figured out how to enhance the resolution deserved an award and a huge bonus IMO, that really helped make that something worth having to me. Many of the games looked worse on the X1 than they did the 360 before they got the 4K treatment.

He ran first party studios before he took over the whole show, so he also helped create the mess he inherited and sadly he hasn't learned his lesson.

I've give Phil credit where its due. Since he's been in charge he's absolutely nailed the hardware aspect and the service aspect of xbox. Those are 2nd to none in my opinion. Where he hasn't delivered are quality games at a consistent cadence. And I don't quite honestly know how to fix that. Because even the studios that can deliver quality games are closing studio and/or laying people off.

Mark my words, this generation is going to be significant because its going to make or break alot of developers and publishers.

I don't care if people can't play the game if they don't have PSN in their country, I'm not moving to any of those places lol jk, If Sony would rather pass on the money they could get from selling it in those places they must have a reason.

I think the days of exclusives from 3rd party publishers may be waning, especially with the development cost of games. It may make sense for the console makers to do selective console exclusives for their platforms but less and less so for everyone else.

All the other FF products were on PlayStation first then sometime down the line (I.E. years) ported(sometime half ass) to PC. I think only Kingdom Hearts 3 is exclusive to EPIC games store and everything else is exclusive to steam. Again a baffling series of decisions on their part.

Most of SE releases were already multiplatform outside of ff7 remake series, Forspoken.

According to Square, they had exclusives out there.

"aggressively pursue a multiplatform strategy that includes Nintendo platforms, PlayStation, Xbox, and PCs"

So going by what Square Enix said (not some twitter poster crazy fanboy like Zuby), they clearly don't see a future where they have exclusives on PS anymore (as well as PC and Nintendo).

Correct , Nintendo had more exclusives from SE. So basically they are trying to get those lost costs back from throwing those titles away in the restructured focus.
