This is the only way this would excite me - buy the MGS franchise and have Platinum games do a Rising sequel. To be fair... Rising showed others could make a MGS game

Because I don't think they could stay true to the mainline franchise successfully. They would either try to emulate the high profile insanity of Kojima and eff it up, or completely revamp/reboot it and essentially negate the purpose of buying the franchise to start. Why?
No I mean in general, why MG?Because I don't think they could stay true to the mainline franchise successfully. They would either try to emulate the high profile insanity of Kojima and eff it up, or completely revamp/reboot it and essentially negate the purpose of buying the franchise to start.
Revengeance could continue off an already successful diversion from the norm with the actual previous developer.
We cherry picking now?
I bet that game sold better than many exclusives.
Franchise is mega huge and would be a mega win if MS acquires it.
Hopefully it wouldn't go 2 waste like many MS acquisitions do.
Maybe. But potentially far easier to get that cultivated userbase to sign up to a service than change/invest in another console. All the same as far as MS is concerned.
Bulls***! Ace Ventura tried it. It doesn't work.I have no idea, but I do know hiding in a cardboard box is a technique only the best soldiers in the world could pull off.
Microsoft is shopping hard for IPs and harder for Japan than Sony is right now. If it's up for grabs, they'd be one of the prime suspects. They're also doing their damndest to get PlayStation fans to look at Game Pass right now. With the Kojima domino seemingly falling towards Xbox, I'm going to push my chips in that they got Konami licenses as well. Just going to keep betting on the 2 trillion dollar company that decided to make gaming a tentpole for the near future. He isn't even saying that. Some kind of grabs doesn't automatically mean someone buying it and he is only mentioning Microsoft because you have to in anything involving money. Beyond that he isn't really suggesting that Microsoft is buying the rights.
They probably will at least license it out to someone at some point. Bluepoint/Sony is rumored but who knows

Well they've already bought Sega so they're just cornering the Japanese market now.You wouldn't bet against it obviously since they have the money but since the only rumor is one tying it to Sony its probably them. Making Metal Gear Solid 6 wouldn't be easy so Microsoft wanting Metal Gear isn't the slam dunk you would make it out to be. There are probably way more games and IPs that would make more sense.
Something I've learned over the past two years. There's no such things as Sony Insiders. Only Sony fan fiction writers. That's no knock on Sony. It's a great business strength to be able to keep a tight ship. You wouldn't bet against it obviously since they have the money but since the only rumor is one tying it to Sony its probably them. Well they still have stuff leaked. We knew Bluepoint was remaking Demon's Souls for example and that is relevant if they are making Metal Gear.Something I've learned over the past two years. Microsoft on the other hand...their ship is leaky. Whether thats intentional or not I don't know. What I can say is that some of the Xbox Insiders have been scary accurate and are getting legit info.
So if we're dealing with Xbox rumors from a handful of proven Xbox sources vs Playstation leaks....bet on the Xbox ones.
You call them morons but I work in the casino gaming business...Let me tell you, Konami is killing it.Hopefully someone does because Konami are morons. Like what are they even doing anymore? Just focusing on arcade/casino stuff?
Just follow the money, strategies, high level executive comments and reports from non gaming sources. Nadella is on record this year that Microsoft is hunting for IP. They see this as their one great opportunity to crack Japan. It often takes a couple years for a strategy to manifest in results that the public can see. They talked to Bethesda initially in 2018 and were aiming for publishers back then. Took 3 years to close a deal on one. This article was from two years ago. Expect to see smoke this year....and Nadella is the smoke monster.

True, but if the people at ninja theory and double fine say they’re given creative freedom and whatevehs then there may be a chance of a positive outcome....granted it may be years before we see it in motion, no matter who attains the rights. The Metal Gear IP may have its ravenous fans and "street cred" with a larger portion of gamers in general, but I personally don't see how Microsoft would be convinced they need it. A sequel would need to work within the narrow confines of the existing crazy, senseless plot, and the game design itself would have to rectify a lot of diverging paths to keep the "old" and "new" fans interested.
Not to mention most online Metal Gear fans seem to also be ready to commit a ritual murder-suicide for Sony Interactive Entertainment. The whole proposition seems to be more trouble than it's worth. If the next game didn't live up to the expectations of every last online reviewer, it'd be the same old "MS ruined it" narrative we saw after the Rareware purchase.
MS has a great backlog of IPs they can revive, and has shown they can build new IPs as well. I'd rather they stick with what works and create an insanely massive Gears of War/Halo sized marketing push. That'll do more for them than Metal Gear Solid 6 would.
