The fact that Microsoft decided to launch after Sony, pretty much told them that they would probably be behind in sales. They were prepared for it Im sure. Probably accepted it seeing as they are 100$ more than their direct competition. Microsoft may be behind right now, but that doesnt mean they cant catch up. Considering this generation has just begun, anything is possible. Whoever has the best software holds the "keys to heaven".

How do you imagine that Microsoft blew their load? Was that a serious statement?o_O

PS4 is winning in UK, but we really won't know about the US until December NPD comes out. Regardless as MS has shown this generation, who ever wins the US and UK is at a pretty big advantage since the two aforementioned are the biggest markets.
I thought the UK was only the biggest in Europe, but not bigger than Japan?

And you know this.....how?o_O

If Microsoft sees 3 million + in less than two months anything else than a success, then thats ridiculous. And pretty soon, if Sony doesnt get some AAA games down the pipeline to compete with Microsofts for 2014, that "more powerful, native 1080p" competitive edge they have, will disappear.

Fanboy warz aside: Its all about the games and experiences. Always has been. Not the resolutions. Not the hardware--the games and the experiences. We have an entire generation to see who offers the best of both and the one who has the better, will take home the gold.

Agreed, both had a successful launch, and that's all that matters.

The gaming world is teh wrong!

@ the Union TM
Metacritic has SOCOM 4 at:

6.7 Critics / 6.2 User Reviews

Yet I give it a 9.5.

So what do we go by? If I went by Metacritic before I bought the game, I wouldn't have bought the game. I would have missed out on an awesome game.

Please explain how you know Microsoft chose or decided to launch after Sony? Do you work for them? Are you upper management? You have no idea. They had a lot of work to do after their disastrous announcement and E3, for all we know that's the earliest they could launch.

And I'm failing to see how the week later launch hurt sales, like you claim. Both companies only had a set number of consoles to begin with and sold nearly everything out on launch day with only a few consoles trickling through the rest of November. I can see your argument for the November sales, but if you are trying to claim that has any impact on the 4.2-3 mil sales lead now, I completely disagree. Are you trying to argue that people bought the PS4 over the Xbox One because it was available a week earlier? You freaked out at somebody for suggesting the opposite just a few pages back.

Also, the Xbox One is pretty much readily available now in the United States and anybody that wants one (and has the money) can buy one, while the PS4 is still hard to find for your average consumer. If anything, this is having just as big of an impact on the PS4's sales numbers as the late launch did on Xbox One's.

It is the sales comparison thread, just saying.

so...

if one leads in units sold, yet another has higher sales in software - which wins?

if MS makes more profit per console sold and is making the same (or even more) than Sony from a sales perspective... Who wins?

just because one company has sold through more units than the other doesn't mean its leading the market in overall sales and profit...

add in overhead (supply chain, distribution, marketing, etc..) and the picture is even less clear as to who's "winning"...

They're winning in terms of what consoles fans are buying the most. It's winning the hearts and minds of gamers.

Infamous is the exclusive I'm most excited about right now. Can't wait to see the announcements at E3.

this is the one game im very interested in and will probably buy the ps4 when it comes out... Though if like to see some more exclusives by then...

Metacritic average critic score was low for Too Human, and I really liked that game.

Truth be told, I enjoy games that tend to score lower, and tend to be dissapointed with games that score high. Case in point, I'm currently playing The Last of Us, and while it's decent, it's also a bit boring.

agreed - though its too early to tell that yet imho - console fans typically buy systems for specific IP/exclusives.... Neither MS or Sony have released their respective "system seller" games to-date.

if anything we're simply seeing the results of die-hard gamers that must have the latest as well as those who were ready to upgrade or switch... Add in a few Xmas gifts... Voila... :)

what would be really telling is the number of consoles sold to individuals that didn't own the previous Gen... ;)

Totally agreed on all fronts. It's way too early to determine a "winner" of this new generation. WAyyyyyyyyy too early. Sony just won holiday season 2013/2014, but that's nothing compared to the next 6-8 years that will really determine who wins.

And I use win loosely. IMO, we all win having 2 solid next gen systems. I don't see why people need to look at it in terms of who dominates over who. I like Carabas and I like Longhorns....shocker....it doesn't matter to me if one does better than the other in terms of sales, because in the real world, multiple companies could co-exist side by side. This is why I never really got the thinking of many xbots when they say PS4 was a complete and utter failure, because Xbox managed to get shared market share. As if 2 companies couldn't share space in the same limelight.

Nintendo has a few quality franchises/mascots that sell millions,Sony like wise.....MS has Halo and well nothing else.
I think it's more like Nintendo has many quality franchises/mascots and Sony AND MS both have a few.

Yeah what he said.

OVERALL most GOTY awards last gen won by 1st party studios/exclusives was shared by Sony and Nintendo... MS was nowhere to be found.
This last gen.... Record breaking most GOTY awards with Uncharted 2 and TLOU,In the top 3 of all time review scores has Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2... Again MS nowhere to be found

MS biggest mascot/franchise that did well was Halo and that's it.
MS got one and it came up short in comparison to the above mentioned games for example.

Mascots are sooooo 90's though.....

Good lord! Could you imagine if gaming consoles still had mascots to define them? Gaming would've never grown up.

Not really. Gears of War picked up a few game of the year awards as well and the franchise did very well.

Actually, GoW did better sales wise than most of PS3's games that got game of the year awards.

Edit....Fable is another one that did better than quite a few of PS3's exclusives.

GoTY awards means nothing if they're not selling as well as the other games that they beat out.

I guess if a console maker I liked didn't have any...and I was a biased fanboy id say the same thing.
Thats same console maker came in as the new kid on the block last gen and wiped the floor with the PS4 3 years consecutively. Not to mention garnered more software sales than the competition by a land slide.

Not bad for a newbee.;)
Did I mention its an American console? WOOT!

MS doesn't make or own Gears and only Gears 1 pulled in a decent amount of GOTY awards...but was dwarfed by some of Sony and Nintendo's.

Wasn't new anymore with the 360(that's like saying Sony was still new with the PS2)
Came out a year early $299/399 and was outsold pretty much every year last gen by the year late $499/599 PS3.

XB and the 360 were hot though no doubt.

Does it matter if MS "makes" it, it's still an MS exclusive. And again, GoTY awards mean nothing, as they are only opinions of that site. If you really want to take about "dwarfs", MS exclusives tend to "dwarf" PS exclusives in terms of sales and popularity. Let's face it, Halo, GoW and Fable in the past 3 years have dwarfed anything that Sony has put out in terms of sales and popularity.

I might be exaggerating, but I'd go as far as to say that Halo as a series alone has sold more games than all of PS3's exclusives put together.
