God of War is pretty big. Bigger than Halo? That's debatable. Either way Mario laughs at everyone.
Give you Mario, but god of war, no can do. As stated SONY has no game that is iconic as Master Chief or Mario. I'm back to writing what I first wrote. Halo rules.
Halo is a monster franchise. If there's one title that can make other devs reconsider when to release their own in the same time frame, its Halo. Gears and Fable were also huge. Forza made a name for itself with its first release--making it the direct competition to GT. I believe it even scored better than GT on its first release and has ever since.
Sony does have an awesome collection of development houses under their umbrella however.
Mario is super old though so his legacy is firmly established. But I think Halo is just as big now as Mario ever has been. When Master Chief came into the world, I think thats when Mario passed the torch.
Yes because if you are going to join in the convo you would see we were talking about Mascots/franchises made by 1st parties.
GOTY awards are telling of the overall quality of a game especially when many are won in a year as are across the board high review scores.
We weren't talking about sales and if one were to Halo 4 sold low in comparison to the other Halo's as there were much more 360's in homes with Halo 4...now before you attempt to run 2 google 2 prove me wrong make sure you understand what I just said.
GOW isn't MS you trying to throw it in= zzzzzzz nor did it beat certain franchises in review scores/awards YOU KNOW THE POINT I WAS MAKING?
Fable 2 and 3 are junk only xboys could defend such a stinker and I am pretty sure the GT series and the Uncharted series sold pretty well.
They certainly do, and people can debate for days over which they think make better games, but in terms of raw sales, for an exclusive franchise, Halo can't be beat. I think the Halo series has sold over 50 million copies in total. It's a freaking large franchise.
Uncharted 2,Uncharted 3,Gears 2,Gears 3,TLOU,The Mario games and my baby the Zelda's.
You said MS's biggest mascot/franchise, and no matter how you cut it, GoW is still a MS exclusive and it falls under MS Studios.
as for GoTY awards, again, they mean nothing in a purely business point of view. I'd rather not get any GoTY awards and sell more than my competitor, then get awards, and sell but a fraction of what the other sells. Those sales tell us what gamers are REALLY playing.
Torch was never passed Mario kicks Halo's ass in prob every way possible.
Halo 4 in comparison to the other Halo's has had a strong decline.
Mario just put out another GOTY..Now if we can see who scored more GOTY awards between Halo 4 and the Most recent Mario Super Mario 3D World. You will have a point.
I think they were speaking as in Universally. If so, Uncharted, TLOU etc arent even in the same league.
But Mario isn't Sony. Again, Halo as a series, has probably sold more, if not, close to it, then all of PS3's exclusives put together. Damn, and once you add in Gears of War and Fable.....those 3 series can't be touched by Sony.

Sure they are UNIVERSALLY as in the GAMING community nobody touches them in the amount of GOTY awards.
Gaming community >non gaming community when talking about GAMING popularity/critics.
In the end, the thread IS about sales, and you really can't separate sales when talking about popularity. You're talking about insignificant awards that are handed out by websites, which really are nothing more than "opinions" from that site. Since it boils down to opinions, it's only fitting to talk about sales, as sales show us what most people prefer. And fact, more people have preferred Halo and Gears of War to almost anything that came out from Sony.
As for whether or not GoW could be bought to another platform...that is neither here nor there....it hasn't, and is unlikely that it ever will.
Halo 4 is still Halo and probably the best since the very first. jmho...
Either way Sony doesnt have a franchise as big as Halo till this day and the "Big 4" from Microsoft pretty much curb stomp everything else from Sony in sales and popularity. Not to say Uncharted, GT, TLOU arent amazing games though.
I like how people talk about Halo 4's drop in sales, when Halo 4 has probably still outsold any single PS3 only game.
But we all know Microsoft wont allow Gears to grace another console. Especially its competition.
And Qberts right. Awards are cool and all but awards mean squat compared to sales. If GOTY tags automatically equaled huge sales then I would be inclined to agree with you. Fact of the matter is, its a nice title, but no where near as relevant as actual copies sold. Besides, I believe some of Microsoft's Big 4 have not only garnered GOTY awards, but garnered massive sells to boot--Halo and Gears being two on tap.

COD and Just Dance prob sold more then any of the above mentioned games so yaw stupid argument falls on its face.

Pretty much. GoTY awards mean squat. It's just an opinion, no more, no less. I can't believe people put so much weight into these silly awards from sites that are just trying to get hits.
Sales tell us what people are "really" buying and what they're playing. It doesn't matter how many accolades Uncharted might get if all of the games in the series can't even beat out sales for just one game (Halo).
I'd say Gears of War was a "360/MS mascot" last generation. I'd even go as far as saying perhaps more iconic than Halo last gen.
