So um ... What happened to TeamXbox?

I'll admit it's been a least a year or two since I last visited. I was a pretty avid poster back in the day, but ended up making PA G&T and more recently GAF my home.

So what happened to TeamXbox? I always considered TXB to be one of the premier Xbox centric forums on the net.

IGN stopped caring about the website. After that all that was left pretty much was the Forums but Bots eventually took over the site with a bunch of spam which got tiresome. So Mods decided to make this site which was Plainview I think.

But couldn't the mods clean the old board? Or did the administrator leave the site along with admin controls to keep the bots under control?

There were about 3 mods who spent all their time squashing bots. Look at it now -- that's the level of bot traffic they had to deal with, for years. The mods had zero access to administrative functions (e.g., ability to add new mods, change the software, limit things so that the bots couldn't get in so easily, etc.). We were basically helpless, and all we could do is keep eliminating bots. It got tedious. Things finally got to a breaking point when the mods' ability to search for individual members was disabled. That meant they had to eliminate bot posts one by one, and they could only eliminate them if they saw them. So their tedious job got even more tedious and difficult.

We took a poll, and a lot of people said it was the time to go. Plainview got this forum up and running, and within a couple weeks, 96% of active TXB members had joined. So Union is essentially the surviving members of TXB in a new skin.

I left like two years ago and it was horrible, the admin was never around so we where left to fend for ourselves on controlling the bots and users. It was a pain then, so I could only imagine how it turned out to be for the mods that remained like Plainview.

No, the mods had no administrative powers, and the admin did not answer repeated inquiries. Many, many attempts were made, but neither IGN nor the site administrators ever responded. They showed no interest at all in the site. They completely ignored multiple pleas for assistance. It was very frustrating, and part of the reason we left is we just got tired of being in that position.

Feels so much better now, to have control over the site. And I think I have yet to see my first spam post, which (after TXB) is remarkable.

Thanks for the explanation.

TeamXbox didn't deserve to suffer such a fate. That site was THE premier Xbox fansite back in the day. I knew that no good would come of the sale to IGN ... =(

It is distressing to me though that they didn't hand over the keys to keep the TXB forum community up and running. Even worse it sounds like the mods abilities to do anything was curbed even worse? Disgusting ...

One of the things I liked about TXB is that even after the sale to IGN it still maintained it's overall non corporate feel in the forums. One of the things that made it great. It's sad to me that IGN discarded the site away ... one that back in it's heyday boasted the biggest Xbox community around ... Posts at TeamXbox rivalled PA and even GAF on some days.

Yeah, they could've made some money off it, if they tended to it, but instead they just let it go to the weeds. Oh well. We are here now, and all is well. Plainview has done a really great job and has (if I may say so myself) a good team of mods to help him out -- no big egos, no partisans, no people with personality issues (except me), no one with any agenda except to help the community flourish. We just moved up a server, which has given us a power boost. We even have a very active front page, which was killed off at TXB about a year ago.

Oh, I forgot to mention that -- they shut down the front page a while back. All that was left was the forum. The front page had a bunch of good guys working on it, all for free I believe, and IGN just shut it down, sent them packing. Then it was just the forum...adrift at sea. Until the inevitable end.

If you think about the people who stuck it out through all of that -- remained with TXB despite all of the turmoil and problems -- those people really got stuck together pretty tightly, like a rat king or something, if you know what I mean. Those are the people who came here, in order to form a more perfect Union.

Nastman!, must be quarantined! He's infected! #spam apocalypse

I only miss the old TXB website design. Other than that, the same people who made it what it was are here posting. Most of them. I still wonder what happened to theseekar though.

I heard that he's off posting at some Playstation-oriented site. Lucky guys.

I actually kind of miss him. He was fun to play around with.

I'm the one who created all those bots to sell my shoes and kitchen furnishings.

Same here lol. I heard he posts at gametrailers as well. I don't go there, but I recall one of our guys here stating so.

Thanks for the background history. Was glad to see the site still exists in it's new evolved form!
