The funny thing about this is this has nothing to do with Activision-Microsoft's deal if it's true this deal was already brewing around half a year ago.

Clearly Sony sees something in Bungie, we'll see in the near future if it pays out.
It may we’ll be there knowledge alone, as in multiplayer and GAAS, Sony already has SP/Story down. They can then share it with other studios, since Sony has stated they want to build a new platform for such games.

But imagine if Sony let them reimagine resistance or kill zone. Hell, let them make the MP portion that was meant for the last of us or Rachel and clank

I think my conspiracy hat is on because when they say this deal was in the works for 5 to 6 months I can't help but be skeptical and think they added a few months to the deal making. After all, Sony was in dire need of some good PR from the public and shareholders to do something in the wake of MSFT's deals. So I'll half that timeline and don't kid yourself this acquisition is in fact a reaction to what MSFT has been doing. Sony and the Gang just won't admit it to the public.

I'm of the mindset that talks have been initiated half a year ago or so but the announcement of Activision being acquired definitely may have accelerated the timeline. I know these things just don't happen overnight and who knows, there may well have been a bidding war that bumped up the sale price not just from MS but also Tencent etc.

Well if we're putting conspiracy hats on...

What if MS was bidding on both Bungie and Activision separately with the intention of acquiring one or the other, then to drive the price up of the company it didn't get. Not totally unheard of given MS history.

Whoa, that's dirty.

Never much cared for Destiny so for me this doesn't move a needle much in either direction.

You do realize that taking Bethesda's games exclusives only means that MS overpaid even more right? The majority of console sales were on PlayStation not xbox, taking that away removes a huge portion of what their potential sales could be, they aren't going to get some mass exodus to come over from PlayStation and join gamepass especially when Bethesda's biggest games come out like once every 6-7 years. Games like Doom Eternal and Wolfenstein sell between 3-6 million when they are on PlayStation, xbox and PC, with the focus on game pass and being exclusive they'll tell us how many people played the games but not the number of people who purchased them because it'll be much lower.

You think MS overpaid more for a few good developers and IPs then Sony paid for one developer? I believe in the future potential for Bungie and Sony but in no way Ms overpaid for Bethesda compared to this deal.

I am still stuck to understand the reason behind this purchase? I mean, Sony can do whatever they want. But you got to ask the question is why?

I'm guessing both MS and Sony sees the potential future threat of Amazon, tencent, Apple etc doing "game pass" variants and streaming and thinks that if they buy these devs the opposition doesn't? Idk, but if MS saw others bidding on something as huge as Activision I can see they getting scared of the future of Gamepass.

Maybe Sony is like the fools on twitter who thought Bungie owned part of Halo and thought they could have Halo games on PS?

Good deal on Sony’s part as they’re lacking good FPS devs which they may need if CoD goes exclusive. Bungie can certainly deliver tight gun play. The numbers obviously make sense to Sony, they’re privy to figures we don’t know. Definitely one of the better independent devs they could have picked up.

i don’t think Activision/Bluzzad have any games on GP…

I think Apple, Amazon and Sony may be the biggest threat to Xbox and PlayStation, hell even to pc gaming. Tencent, even though I don’t like like them they would probably continue to keep whatever they purchase multiplatform, maybe make something exclusive to a particular console for a period of time.

Multiplatform. So, no.

Have you played the Crucible? Absolute s*** show. Bungie has no clue how to balance or make a good, engaging multiplayer shooter and they been at it for like 5, 6 years.

And the story telling in their campaigns is pure garbage too.

But yeah, tight gunplay.

Opinions are like arseholes, everyone’s got one.

So you haven't played it.

I only played Destiny 1 but loved the gunplay. Wasn’t to keen on the game itself so moved on after a month or two. Does the gunplay change in Crucible?
I’m thinking more about future games they may develop with regards to gunplay, I don’t think they’ll stick with Destiny but who knows.

I didn't disagree about the gunplay.

Point was everything else is bad. If you think of the future with the positive then the bad follows too.

He’s a Sony Pony. Of course he is going to feel that way.

Nah. They must have known something. Probably because Destiny has been so successful for almost a decade now.
