South Park: The Stick of Truth - March 4, 2014

.......

The European version of South Park: The Stick of Truth has been censored, with seven scenes removed from the EMEA console release.

In documents received by BT (and independently obtained by VideoGamer.com), Ubisoft said that "7 scenes of about 20 seconds each are censored in the EMEA console versions of South Park: The Stick of Truth. The decision to cut this content from the game was made by Ubisoft EMEA."

The cut scenes include "a mini-game in which the doctor is performing an abortion on the player, a mini-game in which the player is performing an abortion on the character Randy, [and] five anal probing scenes involving someone actively being probed. The scenes play out as normal before and after the active probing sequences."

According to the publisher, "each censored scene is replaced by an image background and a description text selected by [South Park creators] Matt [Stone] & Trey [Parker]."

A Ubisoft representative later told VideoGamer.com that "the decision is a market decision made by Ubisoft EMEA".

The PC version remains unaffected. It is not known whether the scenes have also been cut from the North American console release.

South Park: The Stick of Truth was granted an 18 rating by European ratings board PEGI for its "extreme violence, graphic sexual activity showing genitalia, sexual violence, [and] strong language".

The game launches on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on March 7.

f*** you Ubisoft.

Games getting very good scores as well. Is it known if the US version is region free?

If buy it for Ps3 then it should be region free, as I have bought some games from UK and Asia and all works, there are very few games that are region locked (seems to recall P4A being one of them).

However there is one thing dlc you buy will often be region locked (at least I have often experienced this).

*The PS3 console is region free, you can play games from any region

Here is a link: http://www.comparegames.com.au/PS3/South-Park-The-Stick-Of-Truth/prices/8025

However link is to Eu version, just to show that should be region free

As for the Xbox 360 version Im not sure, it does say that console is region locked, but at the same time many games are region free:

**IMPORTANT: The XBox 360 console is region locked, however there are many games that are region free.

Again Eu version, but that is the best I can find about if region locked or not.

Edit: Found this list over Region Free Xbox 360 Games:

LOL,so now Amerika is the censorship free gaming zone?

Funny how things change in a decade. Can you imagine a game with abortion jokes back in the Whacko Jacko days?

Metacritic averaging in the low to mid-80s.

Gametrailers (8.3):

Kotaku mentions some technical issues, not surprising given that this is Obsidian:

So if you're thinking about getting this one, especially on consoles, wait it out. Give Obsidian a little while to patch the game, or else you're rolling the dice in hopes that your experience won't be as broken as mine. Stick of Truth is a foul, wonderful, hilarious game, and it's worth your time—just not until it works properly.

Eurogamer (8/10):

In gameplay terms it may be soon forgotten, but there's unlikely to be a funnier - or filthier - game any time soon.

Giant Bomb liked it a lot (5/5):

Obsidian has fashioned an honest-to-god RPG out of the South Park universe, one with enough depth and longevity to hold your interest even when the comedy takes a breather. If the fantastically foul world of Stan, Kyle, Cartman, and Kenny still holds any appeal to you, The Stick of Truth is a game well worth your time.

IGN did too (9/10):

With a controller in your hand, you are almost literally – gloriously – playing a 14-hour episode of South Park. There’s much, much more here for series fans than the uninitiated, but it’s a light but good quality role-playing game in its own right. It is, in a way, Season 18 all by itself. It is funny, shocking, self-effacing, and pretty much everything I could ask for from a South Park game -- even if it’s mostly a one-and-done experience.

Thanks to GAF for the compilation, from which I sampled.

Haven't been paying much attention to this game and not really a fan of the series. So is this a story-driven role playing title?

Yeah, pretty much. Character/story driven. It has turn-based combat. The characters are straight from South Park. The story and dialog is written by Matt & Trey, the writers on South Park. If you're not a fan of the series, I don't think it would appeal to you. The main draw seems to be the South Park characters and humor.

I'm kind of ambivalent about that stuff myself. I find some of their stuff funny, but I can only watch it for a little while. I also don't like turn-based fighting much. So I'm thinking this probably isn't the game for me.

Still, it has me intrigued. It's not every day that you get a quality RPG adaptation of a show like this.

It works probably, because of number of characters. South Park is ok , I'd rather have Looney Tunes, Disney, Marvel or Hannah Barbar myself though.

Looks like the reviews I was expecting. I guess my only question would be, is this game still good if you don't watch the show? I don't dislike the show and think it's funny, but I've actually only watched a handful of episodes ever.

I picked it up. Graphically you can't tell it from the TV show. All of the animations, mouth movements, everything, is a match. The characters seem to be voiced by their TV actors. Really pretty damn clever in terms of the setting and backstory. And of course funny and dirty. Gameplay looks like pretty straightforward jrpg conventions but there don't appear to be random encounters - though I am not far into the game yet.

It's really something else to feel like you're smack in the middle of a south park episode and you're an active part of it. That's one thing this game seems to convey very well.

If you're a south park fan then you're going to love it. If you've never seen the show, you will be entertained but you'll miss the plethora of inside jokes and show references.

Put 4-5 hours into it on PC.. ran into the same bug twice where my controls stopped working and I had to start from my save.. the game seems to save almost constantly so I barely lost anything.

Love the game.. it's simple, and almost borrows as much from old King's Quest style point and click adventures as it does a JRPG.

I can confirm that the PS3 version is region free...buy it on the US store and save money to boot.

I want this game so bad, but $59.99 seems a bit steep for a 15-hour game. And with Dark Souls II coming this week, I won't have the time! I'd buy Stick of Truth for sure at $39.99, which I'm sure will happen soon enough.

You have A LOT of catching up to do. :)
