Star Wars Battlefront: Official Thread

Yikes.

A few key paragraphs:

That sucks. If it's Battlefront game it should be more open.

That sound cheesy. I'd rather have killstreaks earning vehicles or games which spawn vehicles in logical places.

CoD 4 Frag x3 is back! I loved using that perk! And so did most gamers.

Good to give gamers a choice between 30 and 60. More game should do this.

Not a big deal personally as I don't mind arcadey shooters. But it says something when a game editor is criticizing a game when typically previews are all roses.
Doesn't want to play a shooter that is 30 fps in 2015? eek, he better stay away from Destiny, the Order, Sunset Overdrive, Far Cry 4, etc, etc.
There is nothing wrong with 30 frames if it's done right.

I wonder if it's just an 'alley' in the current build and if the full game will be more open? I hope so. Also, it sounds like the AT-ATs were nerfed down.

Oh well, it'll be interesting to see what other stages there are and if there are space battles. Also, I just wanna see some Boba Fett.

I thought they said no space battles already?

I'm in the beta, will download today. I hope it's not a waste of time.

This game blows. Visually, it's not all that impressive. I can get past the visuals, but this is a shooter...and the shooting mechanics do not feel satisfying. Getting kills isn't satisfying. It's hard to tell whether or not I'm even hitting an opponent. I just end up hoping to land a kill, and if I do, I can't tell, so I have to look at the text display to see if I got a kill.

I don't, it just feels cheap.

That's pretty much how the Battlefront franchise has felt, apparently.

I played this at E3 and have the same impressions. That said, I still have my pre-order.

any impressions on which camera feels better, first or third person?

Sucks about the SW beta. I have on pre-order too. It's one of the games I have on order which I might cancel. Still got time.

For you guys playing the beta, was it like the videos..... tons of HUD and text everywhere? Watching the vids, you score a kill and there's text all over your guy covering the main part of the shooting area.

I don't mind the visuals, for an alpha. I somewhat agree with the rest though. I think the shooting mechanics feel okay in that they're responsive and pretty tight, but the only real tell for a hit is the hitmarker, I need some audio cue as to my shots landing. Also, the text that shows you got a kill/assist is terribly difficult to see as it's small (in 1080p) and light colored so it really blends with the sky/snowy ground which makes it hard to read.

However, the sounds is, as always with DICE, spot on and amazing. That final push for the generator and the music that accompanies it is simply amazing and always pumps me up.

And again, to those who are confused about this. This is a closed ALPHA, NOT A BETA, it's an ALPHA.

It even has annoying as hell banners that say "ALPHA VERSION - USERNAME" to discourage streamers and youtubers I guess.

Yea, I thought it didn't look all that good from the E3 videos. especially when you download them and look at the vids raw. Oh well, sucks about the shooting mechanics though. DICE is pretty good at that. Seems like BF3 is still the best they've put out with regards to shooters.

I thought the videos looked pretty good.

But just trying to gauge you guys' viewpoints. When you say it's not good looking, do you mean it looks similar to the videos? Or do you mean the alpha visuals are a downgrade, so it looks worse than the E3 vids?

I can live with the E3 vid quality. But if it's going to be another EA bullshot (like MoH Warfighter), than that's a different story.

Yea. Bf3 was. However a year and a half later with *lots* of patches bf4 turned out to be a really good game. The latest patch they released last month finally fixed all my gripes with the game.

This game looks like a snorefest. Maybe next time they'll work on the Battlefield running animations?

For all I know, closed alpha for BF3 was quite different from the final game.

Bf3 alpha was different from release in terms of bugs being fixed, weapons being tweaked, etc. Game's gameplay and visuals largely remained the same.

This game looks ok, I just expected it to be on par with BF. It's the gameplay that blows, the map blows, the game just feels shallow.

Bf4 took about a month to play good for me,I mean it still had rubber banding but only when playing foreign servers.

Not that we didn't already know this, but Phil confirmed that Battlefront is playable first on Xbox:

I'm so on the fence with this. Watching the Hoth footage that's out there just isn't doing anything for me. Hopefully they can keep Frostbite from having such crappy IQ this time around on X1.

Good!

Some of these previews and alpha tests aren't sounding that good. But with EA Access, I can test the game out and if it stinks I can cancel my Amazon order before it ships!

I hear ya.

To me, I think those E3 preview and MP vids were fine. But watching the alpha test videos, meh. I know EA always bullshots their preview vids, but here's hoping the final game is pretty good.

It better not be like MoH: Warfighter. Great previews, god awful final game.

God I need this game to be good.

Is this all multiplayer though or will it have some kind of campaign?
I believe there is some kind of mission-based solo play. But not like traditional SP campaigns that's lets say 5 hours long. I don't know if those offline missions are integrated into a cohesive plot that's slapped together or just a bunch of random objectives.

That's a bummer. I'm not much of an online gamer anymore.

I want a SP Star Wars game that looks like that.

I read there is also offline bot mode MP. Then again, news about this game can have conflicting articles.

Edit. Here's an article that brings up what I remember:

Star Wars Battlefront will have offline singleplayer, won't use Battlelog

By Owen S. Good on Apr 18, 2015 at 2:58p @owengood

Details continue to filter in following yesterday's reveal of Star Wars Battlefrontat the Star Wars Celebration on Friday. For those wondering, yes, you may play the game solo, no online co-conspirators necessary, through a bot mode called "Missions."

Bot play was a staple of the original Battlefront on PlayStation 2 and Xbox, and that sounds like what this is, according to Niklas Fegraeus of DICE. All he's doing is confirming the same thing will be present.

Moreover, assistant producer Jesper Nielsen weighed in via NeoGAF to verify that, no, the game will not use Battlelog, the multiplayer portal for games in the Battlefield series developed by DICE. The system that Star Wars Battlefront will use is "built from scratch" Nielsen said, adding that there will be "no browser game launching."
