Big difference in people spreading purchase rumors and the owner of MS and other workers from MS talking about selling XB.
Companies/businesses all the time spend money on the product knowing they could sell.
In fact tidying things up is super common to make the product more appealing.

No more acquisitions!! Neither MS or Sony should buy anyone, it's bad for the industry. People who want their favorite console maker to "win" buy buying the industry are fools, if your favorite isn't making enough money and growing in popularity based on their performance in the gaming space why do you want them to buy everything up? that'll kill the industry.
It's even more insane when people want them to buy a publisher and not just a developer, the high purchase price isn't all that's involved. They'll be taking on potentially thousands of new employees and contract workers that they have to pay for years which drives up the actual long term cost considerably. They will also be cutting off millions of potential customers from buying their products, not everyone can afford 2 consoles and many who can aren't willing to do so regardless of the game so that means they spend a ton of money to make a company actually worth about half of what they paid for it or less. These big deals are bad for the industry and for consumers and people should stop cheering these kinds of deals on.
