Official Thread Sunset Overdrive

Lol at the Infamous claims!

Guy has a denim vest. "Infamous did it!" Did you people, i dunno, look at the gameplay? That is also just one of the playable characters, I believe. I just don't see the similarities that some are seeing.
I am thinking bioshock infinite

How often does an actual game shown for the first time actually live up to the CGI teaser trailer? How often is that CGI trailer for a video game an acurate representation of the game? I'd say the actual game looks just as good, if not better than what we saw at E3 last year!

Besides Dead Rising, I definately get a Dreamcast-era Sega vibe. Remember Outtrigger? Blue Stinger? Definately JSR, some Fighting Vipers, and absolutely Sonic Adventure 2, with the rails. Throw in some older Streets of Rage attitude.

To me, this game even harkens back in style to old arcade games like 720 and Paperboy. I'd love to see either re-imagined in this style.

Nah, the game looks good but the E3 trailer looked much cleaner and crisp than the gameplay video we saw today. You can notice the jaggies in the game and some FPS chugs when they were showing the city (or maybe that was just the bad compression of youtube) and I think I read somewhere most characters are made up of 40k polygons which is nowhere as detailed as what the 2013 E3 trailer looks like.

Either way, chalk this game up as another incentive in getting a X1 for me. Just need to wait for reviews and see.

Ok so, just after today, and the little bit ive seen, this is an absolute must buy. It looks spectacular, and until another game comes along to change my mind, its now my most looked forward to X1 exclusive.

Oh yeah, and as for all the Infamous comments, don't make me gag. You know what game does Infamous better than Infamous?...f****** Saints Row 4.

Cleaner, yes. I would kind of expect that, but the colors, shadows, animation, and action gameplay were not exaggerated, like how CGI previews usually are. Not only that, but there is actually much MORE going on at any given time and MORE enemies on the screen, where it actually looks better to me, in some ways. This blows me away!

Since this game isn't out til fall and is already playable in the shape it's in, oh man. Imagine how polished this game will be by release!

I'm more excited for this game than I have been for a game in quite some time.

Lol yeah people make me laugh with that dumb s***. I am convinced that they have played very few games if they thing Infamous created any of that. Also Insomniac confirmed that the the playable character is you. As in fully customizable( think Saints Row or Mass Effect) with full voice acting for male and female models.

Damn, this game is definitely a positive for MS now after seeing gameplay. That trailer insomniac did is great, you can tell they have really wanted to do a game like this for awhile.

Big fan of insomnia games back in PS2 days. I have to say Sunset Overdrive is definitely in my top 5 most anticipated game now.

Looks cool, I want this when I get an Xbox One.

Btw infamous and ratchet and clank are mostly good games. Please don't hate.

It really does look like they used to good effect all the lessons they learned over their long development history.

Every impression I have read thus far has been quite positive; it must be really fun to play. Heck, even IGN's "rewind" was pretty much all positive and they tend to lean a little toward Sony's machine in their coverage, in my opinion.

Yep. I watched the reveal CG trailer today and it's more cleaner but overall the gameplay video looks a whole lot better. Like you said, much more going on and much better colours too. The only thing i was briefly worried about was the enemies, we only see the huge hordes of enemies and they are all the same, but in the video they also show art of other enemies..so that set my mind at ease. :)

From what i understand is that there's a story mode and that is just singleplayer and there's also an online mode. But is that mode simply....kill all enemies and just have fun in the levels or is there more to it? E3 sure will have the answers.

If Insomniac's past games are any indication I would say the online mode will be an objective based co-op mode. At least I hope so.

Want, want, want.

BUT.

That movement looks stiff. Looks completely off when he's parkouring or grinding.

Its really odd to have this on xb1, it looks like a top sony game from a sony developer that should at LEAST be multiplatform, but instead its exclusive.

  • What is Sunset Overdrive in 10 words or less?
Open-world carnage, unconventional weapons, high-velocity action.

  • When does it come out?
Fall 2014! We don’t have a specific date just yet, so hold your horses.

  • What systems will it be on?
    Only on Xbox One.

  • Why is it not coming out on the PS4 or PC?
Because it’s an Xbox One exclusive.

  • Will it have a single player campaign?
Yup! Quite a big one, too.

  • Will it have multiplayer?
It will have a multiplayer component, yes. We’ll talk about it later.

  • Will it have co-op?
Yes. But we’ll get into the specifics soon.

  • Will the game have split-screen multiplayer?
    Nope.

  • What is the game rated?
It has not been rated, yet. But, we anticipate that it will be “Mature.”

  • Do I have to be connected to the internet to play Single Player?
Nope. But if you want to take advantage of the game updates, we recommend that you be connected.

  • Will it have DLC?
We do have many plans for the game post launch. We’ll share those details soon.

  • Why do you say “soon” so much?
    We’ll let you know soon.
:D

Looks to me like the perfect game for Microsoft to get behind and publish. Their preference toward exclusives has leaned either too serious or too casual to garner that "fun" image they kept evading for too long.

I think Phil Spencer gets it, and not all games have to be top sellers to give your console that image. He has stated he had fond memories of Voodoo Vince on the OG Xbox, which wasn't even a big seller. Reading that is when I knew he really gets it. The console experience as a whole, cannot be judged and remenisced by Halo or CoD alone. It's those Oddworlds and other kinds of experiences that make you remember fondly.

That said, this just might be the most successful oddity to come around in a while, judging by peoples' reactions.

They posted an explanation online.

Basically, if Sony helps you make a game, Sony wants to own it.

Microsoft was happy to publish the game while letting them still own the game/name/etc.

Insomniac made Spyro and Ratchet and Clank and Resistance and owns none of it.

I think I understand why Sunset Overdrive is X1 exclusive now. :D

I also get a dreamcast era vibe from the gameplay,, obviously on steriods, but it just has that feel. Loving what XB1 is doing with exclusives.

Seems Insomniac has no clue what the word Velocity means. In none of the videos have I seen Velocity. All I have seen is slow game-play. Grinding, wall running, and jumping are all slow.

I really am not getting what you lot are so excited about. Going by the videos it is simply jumping around a city doing the same thing over and over and over. I know they have more to show, but right now, meh.

I don't get FPS games because you're just running around shooting things..

I don't get platform games cuz you're just jumping over stuff and shooting things. Stoopid!..

Tennis games suck too, cuz you're just hitting a ball back and forth. BORING! .. Forget golf, REPETATIVE!..

Sunset Overdrive, that's hella lame. Shooting and blowing gruesome enemies up, while you're zip-lining over the city or grinding on rails. Also, shooting record guns or bowling ball guns and baiting the bad guys with energy drinks and stuff... it just sounds so boring and lame... I don't get it.

:I would NEVER say any of those things:

I don't care what system this game were on, it would be impossible to not be excited for this game!
