Switch 2 - 2024/2025

Looks to be a successor instead.
If true can thread title be changed? Thx

Rumors of a more powerful Switch – often dubbed by fans as the Switch Pro – have persisted for years. The thought was that Nintendo would come out with a new piece of hardware that isn’t quite a successor, but would be a step up from what we have now. Presumably this theoretical device would allow for things such as technical improvements when it comes to aspects like frame rate and resolution and perhaps even better visuals.

Digital Foundry’s John Linneman has now weighed in on the situation in the outlet’s latest podcast. After speaking with some developers, he believes Nintendo was at once point toying around with a Switch hardware refresh. However, “that seems to no longer be happening” and the company is apparently pursuing a true successor instead.

Linneman’s full words:
“So I think at one point internally from what I can understand from talking to different developers, is that there was some sort of mid-generation Switch update planned at one point and that seems to be no longer happening. And thus it’s pretty clear that whatever they do next is going to be the actual next-generation hardware. I don’t think it’s going to be 2023.”

Linneman would go on to say that in his view, Nintendo is likely nervous about transitioning to what will come next after Switch given past generations. After the GameCube didn’t do too well, we saw the Wii which sold over 100 million units. However, with Wii U which came next, it was one of Nintendo’s worst-selling systems. The company is now back on top again with Switch which is one of its best-selling consoles ever. There’s been a little bit of a pattern with one system doing well, and then the next one taking a step back.

What would you want it changed to?

I just hope it has back compat and the ability to upscale some of their current games. I really want something that can play BOTW and BOTW 2 comfortably in 60 FPS and at least 1440p.

Could the REDACTED be covering up their next gen Switch?

Nintendo Switch Online has been excluded from our shares as Nintendo's cloud gaming service is very limited. Nintendo's cloud gaming service is only available on the Nintendo Switch device and[REDACTED].
1 Nintendo Switch Online gives gamers access to online play and cloud saving amongst other features.
2 We therefore see Nintendo Switch Online as predominately an online multiplayer service rather than a cloud gaming service.

Maybe saying “Wii U“ is forbidden.

Nikkei: Next Nintendo Console coming after Spring 2024

Development of new Nintendo hardware is reportedly “progressing well”.

That’s according to a Nikkei Asia source, who the publication claims is close to the platform holder.

“Development seems to be progressing wel. But a product launch won’t happen before next spring at the earliest.”

Earlier today, Nintendo reported a slowdown in Switch hardware sales and suggested no new hardware will launch before April 2024.

The company said it sold 17.97 million Switch consoles during the fiscal year ended in March, taking lifetime sales to 125.62 million.

It expects to sell 15 million Switch consoles during the current fiscal year, which would represent a 16.5% year-over-year decline.

"Leak Express: New Metroid 2D for Switch could be "Metroid Dread"
It would be the sequel to Fusion.
This game began development in 2003 for the Nintendo DS, nothing else was known.
In 2010, Sakamoto was asked if Other M was that game and he replied that they are different games."

"The Switch 2 development kit has arrived in Spain.

The fact that a Spanish studio already has the kit, given Nintendo's secrecy policy, is a boost in their relations and indicates that we are in the last stages before the console's presentation."

A spanish video liked by NWeedle says how "they are using the pro controller with the devkit, not the controllers because they do not want it to leak under any circumstances".

I'd bet Switch 2 is hard as hell to purchase when it does release. My conspiracy theory with Nintendo is that they always artificially limit their initial supply of new consoles to drive up demand.

You can see why but it's sad to think the days of Nintendo trying to do something very different for it's next console are over. I'm fully expecting this to be a Switch 2 in just about every way.
