The advancement of AI in videogames from servers in the cloud and beyond.

I'll do it. TF sucks.

Well seems like the thread has hit clouds!
Let me repeat something I said... I think Crackdown will truly show us the power of the cloud.

Okay I am done with all the OT Cloud talk

Is this the all new special sauce cell powered cloud thread?

i will see for myself tonight hopefully when I play.. but from everything I have seen, it is literally terribly programmed AI.

The AI isn't anywhere near as bad as people like to pretend. They're reactive to situations around them, they flank appropriately, they'll go in for melee attack if your health is low and you're reloading and you're close enough, they back away when you kill a captain, they jump for high ground if they can, they'll snuff you out of your hiding spot with some decently placed grenades.

If you can stomach: COD, BF, Generic shooter [HASHTAG]#7561[/HASHTAG] then you'll be quite happy with Destiny's.

^^someone send us Ketto's copy of Destiny, please!!!

Nope, you sure don't. If you get time, read up on how Respawn is using the cloud technology with AI. It's a good read, and gives answers.
You can give that up. Its much easier for these guys to just assume they know all there is to know about gaming. They work hard for those armchair developer degrees and forums just like this one are where they get to display for the world how much they've learned. Give em' a break Kvally...;)

The Issue with Cloud and Titanfall is most seem to think the only A.I it runs is that of the fodder bots, bots that are intentionally pretty dumb. I do not think many realize that the Auto-pilot Titans are also run by the cloud. The Titans show a much greater degree of intelligence and can be very effective.

No, the issue is the X1 community has been aware for some time now that the cloud is going to allow non latency, high calculation features to be implemented in games. Worlds, physics, etc... all stuff that can be offloaded.

The PS camp falsely thinks that the X1 community was saying it will revolutionize the look and speed of games by boosting console hardware off location.

What they tend to ignore is the back end stuff that the cloud will be, and has been capable of. The enemy AI Titans, the Drivatars... those are all above and beyond traditional AI. Games coming will utilize the cloud in different ways, and almost always in a way that you won't notice from videos on the net.

Oh my god, did they ever. I remember watching all that rage fuel up.

A loud minority did, like they claimed Direct X 12 will be secret sauce (until MS clarified that it will improve performance but not as substantial as some hoped).

But to answer the question, some did make massive claims, but they are not the representation of the UnionVGF community at large.

They represented themselves well on our official PS forums though. Holy cow.

PS forum is actually fairly quiet. Its understandable as most people here are from TeamXbox.

For real. They all just stand there waiting to be kicked in the face.
Menace is right though the auto Titan AI is pretty good. Everyone just always points out the soldier AI which is fodder.

Honestly the problem is neither side knows what the f*** they're talking about when they speak on "cloud" and "dedicated" servers or what they entail or even what exactly "cloud" services are. So really you have dumb arguing against dumb; fueled by confirmation bias. I could write up a 3 page article on what all of it is, but it'd be forgotten by the next day.

Unfortunately there isn't anyone to provide a logical, fact driven rebuttal. It's usually quote -> silly image or gif -> repeat; basically the hallmark of remedially challenged post . Which is why I partake in most technical discussions on Gamedev and Beyond3D.

Not sure what you are getting @ but...I know that in AI,Visuals,Match Making and Internet performance Titanfall doesn't live up to the cloud hype or do anything I haven't seen...LAST GENERATION

Destiny's AI. Enemies run for cover, and actually try to take you down.

TF dumb AI, oh my gawd, look at them just stand there and look around in confusion.

If you call standing there shooting and hitting moving targets "pretty good" then I guess you're right.

The Titan AI really isn't any better. Attacking the first enemy that comes within a certain distance isn't a hallmark of great AI. It's bog standard; it's basically an auto firing turret that's either set to follow or remain stationary. As an example.

I don't consider this a good use of server resources. Especially compared to much better examples. At the minimum after the first shot the AI should have enough data to realize the player is behind a indestructible object and that moving to get a better vantage point is the optimal thing to do rather than continually shoot simply because the player is in it's sphere of influence (in all honestly it should realize that immediately since it's cone of vision to the target would be obscured). One can't present an argument that the AI is suppose to be purposefully dumb then turn around and say it's great. I personally understand it's suppose to be dumb, I just have to laugh at the notion in the same breath some people are suggesting TF is a great example of server use for AI.

With that stated, I do however think Forza 5's usage is pretty awesome; unfortunately from what I've seen the average Forza gamer completely suuuuuuucks at the game and drives worse than any AI ever could; it's like gamers don't actually race in Forza but rather spend all of their time ramming into people for the lulz. It's like f*ck stick to COD or something; sheesh.

The comparison between Destiny and TF's AI is really dumb. One company was responsible for Halo 1 - Reach's AI some of the absolute best in the business, the other was responsible for COD4 - whatever...some of the most nonexistent AI in the industry. This pedigree clearly shows in TF and Destiny.
