What's with all of the hop named beers lately? Unless it's always been that way but it seems like it's everywhere. And is there one named Hoptimum Overdrive yet?

Had some Presidente last night, thank god i had some stashed in the fridge, dumbass friends brought Heineken Light (worst beer ever)

Mixing scotch with anything other than a drop or two distilled water is blasphemy :p

as for beer, if you live in western canada give Big Rock Grasshopper a try, a really nice wheat beer from Calgary

With your Blue Coors Moon? :p
I'm totally psyched out right now. I can't tell if you think i'm serious, or if this situation has turned into some inception sarcasm within sarcasm meta level s***. I need to go lie down.

Awesome side note, I'm in my mid-thirties, and had alcohol for the first time about 4 months back. Yay for growing up Mormon. :really:

@Hanzo I'm not sure if you've ever been but check our Hardywood Brewery if you're ever around Richmond. Should be able to buy the stuff down in Southside too. The Singel is one of my favorites. The Bourbon Beer thing they have is a good strong brew. Gingerbread Stout is their "best" one, though I can't say because I never got a chance to try one last year.

An excellent Canadian craft beer. This is what really converted me. I no longer drink domestic beers, and rarely imports. While we don't have as many craft breweries as the U.S. does, the few I've tried are really good. Mill St. are another good example, and Broadhead.

I've recently started making beer in my basement. It's an interesting way to get to know the process.

I've been to Hardywood a few times. I actually like their regular Gingerbread Stout over the Bourbon Barrel version of it. They are cranking out some great beer but unfortunately they don't distribute outside of Richmond (at least not to Hampton Roads) yet but should be soon.

A few other ones to check out around the Richmond area... Midnight Brewery (it's in Rockville off 64 past Richmond) Legend (which is in the downtown Manchester area, great patio that overlooks the city and river. I'm sure you've been before), and Strangeways (I haven't been to this one yet, need to do it soon http://strangewaysbrewing.com/

What are some I should go to in Hampton Roads? I know St. George's but I've never been. It's pretty close to my parents house in Poquoson.

Recently I did my own experiment with blind tasting a glass of bud light and a glass of busch light...I literally could not tell the difference. Busch light is so much cheaper than bud, so I made the switch to busch light when I want to drink a light beer.

Other favorites of mine:

PBR - Pabst Blue Ribbon
Tecate
Guinness
HB - Hofbräuhaus
Paulener
Shiner's new Oktoberfest is amazing

Busch Light in my opinion gets a bad rep...I was looking to save money on beer and I honestly can't tell the taste difference between it and Bud Light...so I figure what the heck, $11.99 for an 18 pack of Busch Light goes a long way.

I find it funny tho that one time I was in NYC and saw people drinking Lone Star beer in this noodle bar restaurant. The place only had four beers on the menu and Lone Star was being consumer by everyone, it was quite funny. Lone Star is considered the "crap" beer of Texas, it's very, very cheap...$5.00 for a six-pack, yet in NYC, they were charging $4 for one bottle.

To be honest Strangeways and Center of the Universe both disapointed the hell out of me, and St. George straight up sucks...Legend makes some decent stuff....(never heard of Midnight but will check out).

As for what you should visit this way? Nothing. We have nothing that will top Hardywood. Some seasonals from Williamsburg AleWerks beat Hardywood, but you can get them at stores all over the Hampton Roads, going to the brewery will only get you access to their meh regular lineup.

The Legend Brown is what keeps me coming back to them. Too good. Midnight Brewery is really really really small, but it's good. Next April (I think) there's a Carytown Craft Beer Festival (they just had their first one this last year, was awesome), that you should check out. Breweries from all over the state came, including a bunch of small timers in the mountains. Thankfully I live within 3 blocks of Carytown, so walking home from an event like that is awesome.

I'm not normally into hoppy IPAs, but this looks different. I picked up a Dark IPA called Black Hatter from New Holland. I'm hoping this has Hops that are balanced by a dark roast malt flavor. Look forward to trying it.

Looking forward to ample supplies of Pliney the Elder when I move to Denver.
