The other possibility is that a few relatively smaller titles going multiplat is strategic as the precursor to another large acquisition.
What is not a rumor is that Phil Spencer confirmed last month that they are not a third party publisher. As a rule of thumb, I don't believe ANYTHING these "insiders" with "sources" say. They were 100% out of the loop for the Bethesda deal and Activision deal. Heck they were out of the loop for the HiFi rush Shadow drop. So why should I believe anything they have to say. Unless its a controlled leak from MS themselves.
So all that just to say I'm dumb.
You assume They planned to then. The other thing that doesn't really make sense here is that this isn't something that just pops up out of nowhere. I find it highly unlikely that this wouldn't have been revealed during the Activision trial given all the other info that was leaked. It's also the kind of thing that would have really strengthened MS' case.
Yes. It wasn’t long ago the deal was still in jeopardy. You assume They planned to then.
Guy has never forgiven them for killing Windows Phone.
Yup, some good points being made. If you're trying to expand to other platforms then why are they taking away Playstation platform access from Redfall and Starfield when the games are 1-2 years away from launch and was in the plans for it.
Yes, at the first paragraph. But with how big some of their games are they may not fit, how big is cod on mobile? With how huge the Switch is why wouldn’t MS/Sony want some of their games that can run on Nintendo’s console/handheld. Win for everyone.
If GamePass ever hits Switch/Switch 2 that would be yuge and Sony would feel the hit.
Xbox is profitable, Game Pass is profitable. That $80 billion? They still have it. But now they are making money on it. I think what you are missing is that they moved the $80 billion from their short term assets (credit), and debited long term assets for $80 billion. Not only do they still have that asset, but now that asset generates billions more in revenue (which includes profits). The cash asset was already profit, so they incurred no debt and lost no asset.Yup, some good points being made. You say Google and Amazon are the main competitors and PS and Nintendo are not your main competitors anymore a few years ago yet your actions say otherwise. Both platforms would exponentially grow sales and number of players to Xbox IPs if that is what they are truly going for - platformless third party service to increase gaming revenue.
I think Xbox is trying to find growth elsewhere as their console base has stagnated as mentioned by Phil and we see how expensive maintaining Gamepass ($1 billion plus last year?) is plus spending almost $80 billion in just 2 years is a lot. I'm sure their accounting department would like to see some green anyway they can. Also doesn't help when a large portion of the Gamepass userbase uses the service to play "free" games than purchase them. We see Nintendo and Playstation consumers definitely buy more on the software side.

So not only will they make that cash back in spades and debit cash short term assets again, they still have the $80 billion long term asset.
Watch MS hit $4 trillion in the few years. They are already at $2.7 trillion.
Now look at Sony and PS. Look at the narrowing profit margin Sony has with PS and the increasing profits that Xbox is experiencing while giving gamers a great value in Game Pass including day one first party games and more first party games ever in the history of Xbox.
If Hi Fi Rush goes to Switch, that is even more cash assets for Xbox, giving them more revenue to invest even more into the Xbox ecosystem and produce more AAA quality exclusives.
As Phil has said, Xbox is their core for gaming and their focus is Xbox gamers.Even if what you say is true in any way, why not let those cash assets in Zenimax and Activision get even more revenue by allowing the studios to release on multiplatform like originally planned if maximal money and revenue is what they are going after ? MS says a lot out to the public but the FTC trial leaks and internal emails also says a lot more behind the scenes.

And it’s not WHAT IF I said was true. It is true. I’m a controller for Hilton Corporation. That is just accounting 101 as to how assets and acquisitions work. We did the same thing when we acquired Promus and other companies.
So......if this little piggy goes to Town and changes into this little piggy, this little piggy earns more money.Xbox is profitable, Game Pass is profitable. That $80 billion? They still have it. Yeah. I paired my XSS controller up to an old Samsung Galaxy S8. Played Horizon 5, Dead Cells, and Powerwash Simulator. All worked great.Gamepass streaming works great for me through my phone on my mobile carrier with a Bluetooth controller, it's a no brainer solution for switch imo.
Tough luck for you amerikans with your horrendous 4G/5G coverage and (I presume) data caps though.
Yup. They are focused on Xbox consoles, Microsoft Windows PC, Game Pass, iOS, Android and streaming devices like TV, using xCloud. They are not focused on PlayStation or Nintendo for their products and services. There is a reason Phil has said this over and over.Xbox is becoming more and more platform agnostic with the focus shifted onto including PC now (which I like). I believe their expansion into other platforms is almost inevitable as they would like to keep growing.

We will just have to agree to disagree on this subject. Also, Phil did want to see Sony and Nintendo part of the Xbox family, but said that they won't because Sony and Nintendo won't allow Game Pass on their respective consoles. Phil would like to be able to have a Game Pass app on PS and Nintendo to stream Game Pass games. No not focused but there is a growing interest it seems now with all these smoke of porting Xbox IPs to other platforms and comments from Xbox CFO regarding Nintendo and PlayStation platforms. Even Phil told Famitsu last year, they want to include Nintendo and Sony into the Xbox family.

Personally, I hope we see Hi-Fi Rush hit the Switch. It's a perfect fit for that console and demographic. I don't think streaming that game to the Switch would be good because of the music pattern.Hmm. I guess we will see if the new port is on Gamepass or native. If it's native , perhaps that is also another path for Xbox they are considering.
