I somewhat agree on Demon's Souls. Many Bosses were very easy to cheese though, and i mean shoot thru a fog gate, get them stuck, poison without danger, easy but if you fought them legit i really did like the bosses in Demon's Souls the most. I disagree on the regen stuff. Demon's Souls by far had the most regen items and effects of any of the three games. Even if you remove the spell second chance and the absurd amount of grasses you could use, you had rings, shields and i believe even weapons that gave regen. I do think Demon's Souls has the best atmosphere. The world and character tendencies i find more of a hassle than a good feature. The glitches i mentioned above and also the item load system i found tedious. I still think its a fantastic game but its the one i least want to play of the three.

I don't blame anyone for having a completely different order than i do. Some factors are more important than others to the player. Its my favorite series and i look forward to any further soul type games they might make.

What I like about Demon's Souls over the Dark games (other than the atmosphere) was that the bosses (as you said, if fought legit) sometimes had a mechanic you really should/need to use to win.

Like the first boss, the big black blob. I was getting my ass handed to me repeatedly and was about to reroll a ranged character when I decided to try throwing fire bombs at it and voila! I kicked its ass.

So far all the bosses I've fought in DS2 are "dodge this, hit now".

You guys have done it. I want to play demons souls now. When it came out I gave up on it. Now it deserves a second chance.

Here is the main "teller" that I like Dark Souls 1 ALOT more: When I started DS1 back in the day, I felt I had to play it every second I could do it, it haunted me when i wasn't playing it. I could really care less if I play Dark Souls 2 each day. I like the game, but I don't feel I have to have it or I will die.

That is surprising to hear. Maybe first Souls is best Souls?

I'm going to wait until I'm finished with Demon's before picking up DS2. It's been hard to avoid temptation.

Krause,

I'm not cheesing these bosses like you said! I'm really enjoying Demon's though. It is hard! I got stuck on 2 -2 and decided to move on. I'm trying to play through w/o any hints. It's been tough.

Usually I play my first character in a souls game offline so I don't get tempted to read messages and have secrets, traps and ambushes spelled out for me. However, I was watching streams last week and it made me want to play online.

That is, until I went to Belfrey Luna and couldn't step 10 feet without some asshat invading me and 2-shotting me. I'm playing a glass cannon sorcerer and I'm going up against people that take like 80 dmg from my great heavy soul arrow, that is if they don't dodge it. Then they hit me once and I'm down to 5% health.

So eff that, I went offline, cleared the place then went back online. I'll stick with online 100% in NG+ and onward, but for now I just want a single player experience without the grief of being nearly 1-shot by people that spend 20 hours a day playing this game.

I'm the same. I always play my first character offline. Because people are as*holes. It would be too frustrating trying to build up a character in a persistent game world where people are always....being people.

That is why I am playing offline. I hate the invading aspect of the series.

Hmm wonder if I should get a new weapon or keep upgrading my broadsword (+7 ), have 40 strenght and a bit more than 20 dexterity.
Also have a ultimate greatsword +3. Was thinking about Infusing lightning to the broadsword later on, but then need upgrade faith (very low at the moment)

What a run yesterday. I beat the scorpion boss, the chariot, the skeleton lords, covetus demon, and the Medusa boss all in one sitting. The dragonrider bow is just an awesome weapon.

I look at online a few ways. One, if it weren't for messages left by people regarding hidden rooms, and traps, id have died a lot more, and missed some really good weapons and armor. I missed two estus flask shards my first play through that I found in my second character all because of messages.

On the flip side, I hate being invaded, unless im seeking out pvp situations. It wasn't that big a deal in Dark Souls, because if you were hollow, you were safe from it. Why they reversed that in DS2 I have no idea. Its literally the only thing id change about this game. The belfry luna is the worst. Its bad enough when you're stressing over beating the gargoyles, but its almost a guarantee some A hole is guarding that bell tower, and often times you'll get invaded by two people there.

On the other side of things is the co-op/summons. I love this. I hate that I cant just call a friend in to my world or help him out just whenever, but that's beside my point. This game is already highly replayable, and co-op just adds to that even more. I remember the first time I beat the smelter demon. I immediately went back out of the area and put my summon sign down to help someone else do it. Or, I often camp the final boss area and just help people tackle that. Its a great way to farm souls quickly as well.

Any true souls player wants to prove their worth against the game by themselves, and ive done that with two characters using no summons. But for those of you not giving co-op a shot to this point, create a new character just for that purpose. It really is a blast, and depending on your covenant, can get you some good rewards. I know the Heirs of the Sun covenant nets you a sunlight shield, sunlight sword, and sunlight spear after offering 30 medals from helping people. The sword is great fully upgraded and infused, and the sunlight spear is the finger of God for faith based characters.

For the covenants to work do you need to be wearing whatever ring they give you? I'm in the blue sentinels and I've never been summoned and never been able to invade a sinner. Just realised I wasn't wearing the ring last night and was wondering if that's why.

good to hear from you Razor!! I just knocked out the Lost Sinner last night and I still am not really that into the game. It IS a good game, don't get me wrong, but Dark Souls 1 is just better and more memorable. I have yet to have a "wow!!" moment in DS2. I still have a ways to go, so I am sure I will eventually have one. I had "wow!" moments immediately with Dark Souls 1 and was completely consumed. This one not so much. Dark Souls 1 is just too damn good to top in my opinion. I have found DS2 to be harder and easier if that makes any sense. Harder due to less healing options at the beginning and life bar shortening upon death. HOWEVER, the latter can be remedied fairly quickly with the Ring of Binding. It is easier in someways due to more bonfires and being able to teleport to each from the get go. Also the enemies stop spawning after a few runs at them.

So far my most memorable moment was the Dragonslayer boss fight.......because he looks like Ornstein from Dark Souls 1. LOL

That covetus demon has to be the easiest in the game. It really doesn't have anything to threaten you with. Prowling Magnus and his Congregation, up in Bright Stone Cove Tseldora, are piss easy too when you have a descent magic shield.

That's a nice run though. Well done :)

I'm still using the early game weapon, Hiede Knight Sword from Forrest of the giants. Has nice quick movements. Has the lightening damage. Seems powerful against all enemies thus far. Mine is at +7 right now. My other favourite weapon is a Dragonslayer Axe.

To each their own. DS2 is better to me, and I put right at 300 hours on DS1. There's probably too much nostalgia getting in your way. If you're comparing the two games while playing DS2, then you really aren't giving the game much of a chance. If I was forced to only play one of the games for the rest of my life, id choose DS2 in a heart beat. DS2 has been spinning in my 360 for over a month now, and there has rarely been a day I haven't played it, wanted to play it, or thought about playing it. I got the game the same day I got my X1, and its the main reason my X1 gets neglected. Over 200 hours on 5 characters to this point, and the only thing that'll stop me is an X1/PS4 version, which I will buy Day 1.

With this game and demons souls (after the first play through) I play online almost 100% of the time. Because it is nice to click bloodstains when you see nothing around and want to know how the person died. So usually I just play as hollowed. That's the trade off to not get invaded, I have to play with 20% less health. The problem is that in Belfry Luna it doesn't matter if you're hollowed or not because it's a small zone with an optional boss and its purpose is to promote PvP, therefore sadness.

The reason I went there was to get the Bastille key. I kept losing tracking of The Lost Sinner (it's how the fight is designed apparently) and getting smashed from out of the darkness. So I read up on the fight (I do this if I lose 5 times in a row with no real progress being made on a boss) and found out if I get a key from Belfry Luna I can action some item in the TLS zone to make the fight easier.

Got the key last night, going to go back and try the fight again tonight.

You can do this. I watched a stream last night where two players were summoning each other into their worlds.

It has something to do with both of you owning a specific ring and aligning yourself with the same god. I didn't catch the name of the ring or how you get it nor how you choose a god. Still, it's entirely possible so if you want to do this then what I've outlined is a start on finding out how to do it.

You need to be human to invade or be invaded, except a few zones like Belfry Luna you can be invaded while human or not.

I am human when I try to invade. Do you need wear the covenant rings ?

Yeah, its called the Name-engraved ring. You get it from the cat in Majula. Ive tried it, and it does make it easier to find friends. I was more specifically talking about an option to just place a summon sign down and it allowing you to invite who you wanted from your friends list without any go between item. Even the ring is no guarantee of finding someone you know, but it makes it less hit or miss.

I know you can up your chance to be invaded in the Rat zone if you wear their covenant ring. I only know that because I watched a stream where the player did it.

Other than that my knowledge of pvp an how to initiate it is extremely limited.

I see what you're saying and yeah that would be awesome. In fact, if we were able to do this I would buy a copy of the game for a friend of mine and co-op with him relentlessly.

I have only been invaded ONCE in 17 hours. Summoning works like a charm, not sure why invasions don't seem to. It doesn't bother me, I hate getting invaded.

Good to hear from you as well. You'll give the game a fair assessment I'm certain. Are you still playing Diablo 3? I'm waiting to pick up the complete console version to be released. I believe you were playing PC though.

Could your issue with DS2 be enemy variety? DS just had so many different enemies and bosses in the game.

DS2 has much more variety though.

I do play Diablo 3 on the PC. The locales and bosses have been less interesting so far in DS2. The beginning area "Betwixt" is so boring. The Undead Asylum had much more impact with me. I do like Majula better than Firelink Shrine...it is the area right after the starting tutorial type area. I DO NOT like the way you have to warp back to Majula and talk to a chick whenever you want to level. Just let me do it like DS1 at each bonfire. At the beginning I hated that your life bar reduced after each death, but you can remedy that very quickly with the Ring of Binding. It abruptly stops that aggravation, however it does suck that i have to waste a ring slot on it. I miss the way the world interconnects like in DS1. You end up at a dead end alot of the time in DS2. I do really like being able to warp to each bonfire right from the get go and there does appear to be more bonfires in DS2. I don't want to sound like I am trolling DS2, I am not. It is a great game, it just isn't as good as I had hoped. BUT....i still have a long ways to go, things could get alot better. Please don't hesitate to purchase the game, it is well worth the money and time.

I feel the same. I love Dark Souls 2, but not quite as much as Dark Souls 1. There are some odd design decisions, like the seemingly random placement of some bonfires (within a 30 second run from one to the next), to the strange soul memory grouping system. It's still a joy to play through and I'd recommend it to anyone, but I prefer DS1 overall.

This video summarizes a lot of the subtleties that aggravated me (though I don't necessarily agree with all of them):

If you are not sinning, or sitting in human form all day, its fairly tough to get invaded in NG. NG+ you see alot more of it, and of course with the arenas much of the battles have moved over there. I should note i am not counting the rat and bell keeper areas in my comment, you can get invaded in those areas quite often in NG.

Sif,

I have to deal with the reducing life bar after each death and going back to the Nexus to level up in Demon's Souls. It's all good bro!

Besides, I like talking to the Maiden in Black in DeS because she's kinda hot. Maybe you can start fantasizing about that old witch in DS2! You're into older women right?

Ha ha

Thanks did pick up the sword and after raising faith to 25 it does good damage.

Found Iron keep a good place for farming souls by being summoned, often get between 20 000 -40 000 souls and the Hiede Knight sword has been of great help.

is this the sword you get from the big white knight leaning against the tree in the Fallen Giant area? I didn't know that scaled with faith, I might need to try that, my faith is at 33 right now. I am getting sick of this mace honestly.
