Official Thread The Division v. 2

Just cleared the rooftop and got my first achievement. Feels just like the beta to me. It’s nice.

Perhaps its because I'm a low level 7 squishy but this game feels harder than the first game. I am running around solo for the most part so no backup but still I feel like I go down very quickly.

Just like the first game the devs have done a great job at world building. The City has a very "I am Legend" feeling to it. I feel bad for all the stray dogs running around. I mean WTF you evacuate but don't take your dog? There is a special place in hell for people who leave their pets behind during an emergency.

The AI is a lot better this time around. They flank and mix up between rushing and sitting back. I had a nice shotgun from somewhere (preorder bonus?) and I find a mix of a shotty and a long range gun works great. You have to be switching positions regularly too. In the first game you could just pick a spot and then shoot away. Now once you notice they are starting to surround you - fall back. The enemies are just too spongy to be aggressive with. You have to kind of sit back and pick them off one by one.

In a real apocalypse, I'll be the guy saving all the pets and letting the humans die out in the streets. :)

Chem launcher isn’t as good as I thought it would be. I have the riot foam and the armor heal. The riot foam only holds them for about 4 seconds and the armor heal only lasts about 5 seconds and it barely restores any armor.
the heal version is actually great. You get 3 charges and each charge heals for like a third off your armour. What makes it better than all other healing skills is its very quick cooldown.

If you couple it with a gear talent (think it is called Safeguard) then every time you get kill your healing is boosted by 150% for 20 seconds. So, each chem launcher charge will heal roughly 80% of your armour.

I figured i was doing it wrong. Good tip man! Thanks.

Yeah, the enemies can flank like nobody's business which is cool, the hit animations make the enemies really hard to hit with follow-up shots which makes things a little more realistic but they are also fckn' aim-bots. Seriously, these dudes rarely miss and its killing me.......literally.

You have to shoot a short burst and then duck back to cover. Use short, controlled and accurate bursts.

Combat just takes awhile. If you rush in you'll just get cut down. I am like 5+ hours in and level 5.

A good shotgun is key too. Sneak in close before engaging. You can often take out 2-3 with a quick grenade and some shotgun bursts. Once the AI gets cover though it is basically just a long slog. Burst, cover, burst cover rinse repeat.

I finally have time to start playing. I’ve really been looking forward to playing this, heard nothing but good things everywhere I look. Time to tear up the streets!

Played for a few hours loving this game! I got a 3 brand set early gave me nice boosts. Running a rifle and shotgun. Picked turret and hive skills. I’ll be putting a lot of time into this game glad I got it. Trying to recruit other friends to this.

I got a few more hours in today. I had a few problems with the server connection going essentially dead for a minute or two at a time - fortunately almost every time, it was after finishing a battle in an area and going around looting. Stuff like opening a loot crate, walking around for a minute and a half without it actually spitting up the loot until finally it shows up. I did die once from that, and I had another time where I was in a no-respawn area and fortunately I guess the enemies couldn't shoot me while I couldn't shoot them either, so I backed up into the previous restock area and waited for the ability to shoot again. Skills glitched on me for a few minutes too - plus the healing drone and turret both despawned on summon 75% of the time, so that was sub-optimal. But I do like the healing chem launcher and the hive reviver is a nice thing to use outside of checkpointed missions.

I'm up to level 12 now, mostly blue gear. I'm using the marksman rifle less and less, but I have a nice regular rifle and I'm using an SMG or LMG with a magazine boost secondary. Just unlocked level 4 of the Theatre and my fifth (I think) skill, plus I did do the DZ exploration mission (first one?). Got my first skill mods, both pretty useless chem launcher augmentations with high skill power requirements (318 for the piranha, higher for the 3% or so bonus heal), so I deconstructed them for the printer filaments. I crated a muzzle mod and the marksman magazine mod, but otherwise I'm trying to just load up on the components and only use them for projects if needed.

Loving the game so far. Getting somewhat better too, which is pleasant.

I broke down and got this game. I have to say the level of detail in this game is incredible.

I'm only a level 3 but am having fun at the moment. Unsing a shotgun and m416 along with the turret and hive.

Yeah this DC map is amongst the best ever made. Make sure to look up for orange crates hanging from parachutes on buildings, shoot them for good loot.

I jumped in based on the hype and I’m glad I did. First looter shooter to stick with me. Level 7 right now and finding the moment to moment combat really satisfying. Maybe the best enemy AI in a game. Hoping Coalition is paying attention because this is exactly how I wanted AI to evolve in Gears. Really like how unpredictable, aggressive and dynamic enemies are. They’re challenging without feeling cheap. It’s not a boring open world. First few missions have been varied. (Space museum was really cool). Lots of depth. Plays well in single player when you don’t have a group to join. Predicting this will be my most played game of 2019.

I'm changing my early impressions to 10/10
The variety in locations is unrivalled in gaming. Everywhere you go feels fresh and begs to be explored. The lighting in HDR is also beautiful.
An early strong contender for game of the year without a doubt. Im not big on 3rd person shooters and this game has absolutely blown me away.
And when you find that one weapon that suits your play style and feels just right... oh baby are you in for a treat. Its so satisfying.
I encourage everyone to purchase it. Don't even wait for a sale because Ubisoft deserves your money for this masterpiece.

To add to this, the orange crates are seemingly the only way to get dyes for your gear.

Yeah maybe it is the hone

I was going to say that this game sets the standard and raises the bar for looter shooters, but I might even go beyond that and say for all games.

Great to see a game actually live up to the hype and then some.

these impressions are making me interested

beta was very meh to me though so not sure what to do

I would advise turning off the the option that shows your line of route when running from cover to cover for more immersion. The system is very intuitive and you really don't need it.

When do dark zones open up? Level 30?

I think you have to recruit the DZ officer (level 3 of the Theatre?) to open up the DZ recon mission for DZ East. Once you complete that I assume you can then return there for good stuff, and the blue recon missions for the other ones seem to be open (though I haven't checked them out because I'm #notThatGood.

I say that, though, and I just stumbled into the Metro control point near the castle settlement, and fortunately the way I went in was such that I could clear it pretty much solo from range. I actually got the mission checkpoint to fire the flare gun to summon allies after having done all that stuff myself, although then I had to pull back to my covered spot and pick off the reinforcements. Of course, it wasn't *easy* - for a while I was able to pick off the rushers and regulars coming through trying to get to the staircases, but then I had a yellow and red both come up the left while I was finishing off a grenadier on the right, and thank goodness chem launcher healer is not bugged. :)

Really impressed with the game to this point. Just hit 13 this am before leaving for work.

Yeah i hit a control point this morning and thank God I have that turret with the flame thrower protecting my backside cause I was looking right picking people off when a couple of those rushers flanked me on the left. I heard screaming and looked left when I saw a couple of them on fire.
