Well I just attained lvl 20 last night and now the grind begins. I was thinking we could have a thread dedicated to leveling past 20, tips/tricks and what-not, keep it in one place instead of the various other threads around the subforum. So any advice for this legendary noob?

Best one so far. You can thank me later. ;)

Otherwise, do the usual strike/normal missions and big events to get your rep up for Vanguard and Crucible to buy the Legendary gear.

Well that explains why there were a few people just standing in this area doing just that when I was playing with my daughter earlier!

There's another great grinding/loot spot on the moon. It's at the part where you find the dead guardian on the ground and that mysterious NPC shows up behind you up on a ridge. Anyway, there is this big giant door that unlocks itself and opens up. About 35 AI flood out of this door and you can toast all of them really quickly because there coming out of a single choke point and most of the AI are those really weak kamikaze AI. Kill 25 to 30 of them and let the last few kill you. The loot drops stay on the ground when you respawn and the AI come out of the giant door all over again. Rinse and repeat.

I think I like doing this better than the above video especially because noones doing it yet.

Yeah i was doing that earlier, wasn't getting too much after about 600 kills but good way to level up cryptarch.

Blech. I don't like this whole farming thing. I killed around four hundred baddies and got maybe 3 item drops. That's some bull. I was playing level 20 baddies solo( I am level 20). At least it is good training. It's crazy when I started, I got overwhelmed pretty quickly, but after a few "rounds", I had to stand still to let the Knights kill me, lol. Man I love that lightning grenade!

After that, I went to mars and kept losing my connection to the Bungie servers. Very, very irritating. I ended up quitting and was trying to figure out how to open my NAT, but I couldn't get into the routers web interface. I really hate that I can't enjoy my game because of this s***.

Thanks for this. Easily the best spot for farming, and you don't have to die over and over. Nets a ton of drops, comparatively. Easy too. Unfortunately easy means boring, but if you are gonna cheat...

i've done that spot and crota. i definitely think crota nets more at a faster rate.

Got my first Legendary drop outta that place, have me a uncommon helmet...

My advice is to start collecting your materials even before you get your legendary pieces. For example, my helm requires 15 helium fragments for every defense node I upgrade and 8 ascendant shards for the last two nodes. I will need a total of 70 ascendant shards alone for my entire armor set. Your light increases for each defensive node you upgrade, so you will want to upgrade them.

You're better off doing activities to level up your faction of choice. The cryptic can be very measly. I've decrypted a s*** load of legendary engrave for bugger all. You're way better earning marks and choosing what you want.

That takes too long. You have to run two checkpoints to get there and watch cutscenes. It might become the farming place after Bungie patches the cave farming on Earth. Do the cave farming on Earth, its easy and nets a lot of loot, trust me. Even if you don't get a legendary engram, you shouldn't have any trouble leveling up the Cryptarch. Every time you level up the Cryptarch you get a package at the Postmaster that usually contains atleast one legendary engram. Enjoy it while you can because Bungie has already tweeted that it will be patched soon.

Not possible if more than one person is doing the cave farming. You get loot drops from every player getting kills at the cave spot.

It can take days to get enough rep to level up, and even then you are only allowed 100 marks per week for Vanguard, a faction/Crucible separately. The farming cave on Earth is boatloads more productive than any other method in the game.

If your on later tonight I'll farm it with you. You do get tons of loot for minimal work, i got two legendary engrams in the first few minutes. Just be sure that you stand far enough back from the cave or the guys won't spawn, stand about at the crest of the hill facing the cave, there are a bunch of fallen pillars at the bottom. By the time we stopped farming a bunch of lvl 26 guys came and just sat down at the entrance.

I did a little this morning with 2 strangers. Netted a few engrams. Much better than the moon.

When I farmed it the other day, me and two friends farmed for prolly 45 mins w/4 other randoms. In the course of farming we did 2 public events (defend the warsat) as it spawns right behind where you sit to farm.

You can also spend days farming engrams only to get zilch from The Cryptarch :) at least with farming the rep and marks you're guaranteed legendary's at the end of it. It does'nt take that long, I went from level 2-3 yesterday easily enough by doing bounty's and patrols, farming chests and mats along the way.

I did the cave farming thing with DriedMangoes a couple times and got some okay loot. But I kind of just prefer patrolling, strikes, and the Crucible to get my loot because the cave is just so damn boring lol.

Went from level 21 to 26 over the past few days and maxed out my crucible marks tonight.

I got a total of 9 legendary engrams a couple days ago. Between leveling the Cryptarch, and legendary drops it was a good day. Are you where I am?

What did you get from your engrams? legendary engram not equal to legendary loot...and if I had ascendant shards I would be lvl 28.

Does your cryptarch level really guarantee a legendary from a legendary and so on, or do you still get sh!t from higher lvl engrams?

My cryptarch level is 5 and it seems to have finally evened out.

Man I got a ways to go then, I'm almost at lvl 3 for my cryptarch. It looks as though you get more crypt. exp. for legendary and rare engrams than for the uncommons.

Noobs my engrams level is 22..3 days at the case and 6 relics and countless legendarys later.

ignore the troll. my cryptarch is lvl 16 and I've had 4 legendary off him three of which were helmets ffs. I've got more of what I actually need off the vanguard dealers and Xur

Yeah, its true that legendary engrams doesn't automatically equal legendary items. I just got 3 legendry's give me rare items awhile ago.

There are a few ways to get Ascendant materials. You can get them from engrams, you can get them from doing level 26/28 Daily Heroic Story missions, you can get them from breaking down legendary/exotic items, you can get them from Public Events until you max out your Vanguard marks, you can get them from Weekly Nightfall Strikes, and you can get them at checkpoints in the raid. Hope that helps.

The only engrams that are guaranteed are exotic engrams. I have never seen an exotic engram drop, but you can buy them from the exotics vendor for Motes of Light. It isn't guaranteed that you will get an exotic item for your class though.

lol Im trying to help you guys for crying out loud. Sorry you don't appreciate the tips.
