Official Thread The Last Guardian

TLG automatically picks its mode based on your tv. If you want to run super sampled 1080 version with better performance, you have to change the Pro's output to 1080p in settings before starting the game. Apparently 1080p mode uses the TVs upscaler to fill a 4k screen, so if you want the better hardware scaler you can switch the Ps4 Pro's output back to 4k after you are running the game (supposedly the game doesn't check your output after you start playing).

It's really dumb, but hopefully they will patch it.
Thanks Froz. I am content with leaving mine at 4K. I am not bothered by the performance hit. I understand that is a big thing for some, but for me, it really doesn't impact my experience.

Does the game have the horrible camera input lag running on the Pro?

I really want to play this game. I love the design of the bird-dog and stories of man and beast is something I really like. I just can't justify the purchase with my backlog. I'm playing Forza Horizon 3 right now which is quite possibly the best racing game I have ever played. And then I'll move on to Deus Ex so my Pro can stretch its 4K legs and then perhaps I'll be able to follow that up with this game but since I'm so easily distracted that's not a sure thing.

I really enjoy reading the impressions so please keep them coming in.

I'm not sure as I don't have a lot of playing time yet to notice.

I noticed it immediately and it's infuriating me. It feels like a .5 second delay on camera movement. Increasing the camera speed doesn't help at all for me. I enabled TruMotion on my LG which helps out slightly with the camera and the frame rate, but it makes everything look weird.

So are you just talking about the response time from when you move the DS4 stick to when the camera actually moves?

Yes, tried it with 2 different controllers. I've run the game with HDR and without, used gaming mode, disabled gaming mode and enabled/disabled all sorts of TV settings and it's the same. I'm wondering how many of the reviews were using the Pro, because the framerate is bad constantly and turns into a slideshow at times.

So disappointed.

I mean really i waited for this game and it have more issue then recore, WTF!

10 years for nothing. Im going to sell this sh!t.

I dont know how the hell some of these people gave this game a 9/10.

This guy's hilarious fight with the dog's AI and other mechanics. Holy goddamn I was on the floor.

If the game wasn't plagued with so many technical issues (at least for me) I'd be giving it a 9 out of 10 easily. I haven't played a game with this much slowdown since trying to play Crysis on PC with a minimum spec GPU and all settings on high/very high.

I have a launch day system with no issues. I'm not experiencing the occasional frame rate issue the reviews claimed they had, mine are constant even while standing still, not to mention the horrible camera lag.

Damn, that animation makes want it despite the frustration. Damn funny to watch, but I bet it's annoying to play through that.

Thats what im saying this game could been great but no they had to bring a crippled game and some how it got a 9/10. This is how you sucker a customer into thinking its great.

Those people who reviewed this game lost all credibility after this bulls***. This was the reason why i got a ps4 cheap to play this game and i end up with junk.

I have already sold everything got my money back and some. Never getting a sony system again.

Sh!t at times my dog dont want to listen and thats because he is old. But this MFer is broken as Fuked.

This studio is kind of like Bethesda. They make great games. But you already know that they will be flawed.

I'm not having too much of an issue with getting Trico to do what I want. I'm patient enough to deal with that and I can forgive the finicky controls. I'm primarily disgusted by the camera and jittery frame rate. I'll probably sell this as well if/after I beat the game. Maybe if ths would've come out 5 years ago, I could forgive all of the flaws and keep it in my collection.

It's baffling how one part of Studio Japan can make Gravity Rush 2 a massive vertical open world game and have no problems running that but struggled to make TLG.

I'll definitely add it to my collection at some point. Probably @ $20-$30 though.

After seeing the terrible prices it's selling for on eBay, I'll probably keep it. It's definitely worth $30. For some reason, the game is running a bit better now later in the game in areas and situations you'd think it would be the worst.

I actually really like the game, I just don't like the technical issues that are causing me to lose immersion while playing. The interactions with Trico get more and more amazing the further you get into the game.

FFS, I almost died. LOL
I can't decide which was funnier. When the dog launched the boy into the ceiling or when, after what seemed to be a hundred attempts to get the barrel out of the pit, the dog knocked it out of his hands back into the pit with no f***s given.

Trico eating the kid during a fight against the enemies had me seeing the light. lol. Fuking nuts.

And Trico bashing his head against the gate. The gamer dude is like, "Fuking genius! Why didn't I think of that?" I lost it. lol.

Update 1.03 is out now and is about 167mb.

It definitely improved the camera input delay that I was very unhappy about.

With the holidays, I have been pretty busy lately so I haven't had time to commit to the game lately. I have been have some quick matches in the new COD remaster as some mindless 2-3 match fun. I don't want to have just a few minutes here and there in TLG. I want to sit and spend at least 1-2 hours quality time with it when I continue. I am glad to hear about the patch addressing your concerns.

Here are the full patch notes for those who care:

  1. Various other improvements

All I've done was play 30-45 minutes at a time so I wouldn't beat the game so quickly. I was halfway through the game and stopped playing because of the camera issues, but I might just restart the game now.

I like how often lately the patch notes are just a couple of words with no explanation of what was fixed/changed.
