**The official UVGF PC Battlefield 4 thread***

So who's running Win 8.1?

Hmmm, I'm good with performance...but wonder how much better I can get by going to win8.

I also wonder if I get a new gpu + win8, without going 8 core, if that would give me some better results.

You would get better results if you overclock. Other than that, I'd just go for a future proof processor like the i7 Sandy bridges and beyond.

I wouldn't know where to begin to overclock.

Yah it's risky. Which is why I always seek advice from guys with similar builds that have their rigs overclocked. Overclock.net also has tutorials on specific processors to overclock.

I think you are good though. Windows 8.1 should be enough. I read somewhere that it has better support for multi core processors, which is probably why Battlefield 4 runs better on it. Or it just may be that the graphics drivers for 8.1 are better. There's a lot of conclusions to jump to.

LOVE LOVE LOVING IT so far.

I had some issues after install where I'd crash on map load or within minutes of starting a match. Turns out that I had turned on settings under global in Nvidia control panel. Once I set them back to off or app controlled it stopped the crashing, for the most part.

WARNING!!!!

If you don't want to lose your progress I highly suggest that after every match you quit then reload the game. I lost 1.5 levels earlier because apparently they didn't think that saving your online MP progress in real time or at least at the end of every match was a good idea. So if you play 5 matches, go up 7 levels and open 35 items it'll all be gone if your game crashes, you loose connection to the server or generally anything that makes you reset the game without clicking "quit" at some point.

Not gonna take any invites tonight, perhaps tomorrow. I'm pretty beat and just want to shoot face and repair tool tanks. Looking forward to playing with some of you soon though (I have an early day saturday, I get off work @ 3pm, home by 3:30 then I'm free until 10pm sunday night).

Performance:

1080p/60fps (rock solid, NEVER dips at all, which is how I want it)

A mixture of High, Medium (FXAA instead of MSAA) and no AO.

Cannot wait to do my new build at the end of next month so I can max this sucker out and get a rock solid 60fps @ 1080p.

I've had my games hacked and stolen off of Origin twice now. Console for me.

But the game looks incredible on PC. Have fun.

You must be doing something wrong then. I've never had a game account hacked on PC ever. I never trust requests, invitations etc. by anyone other than people I know on forums or voice comms.

I rarely play. But I went on Origin one day and my My Games folder was empty. Called EA, got it fixed. Went back in the other day and they're gone again.

I was thinking maybe we could set up a regular time to play together, do like a squad up kind of thing.

Example: Saturday night, 7pm eastern - whatever'o'clock we get 5 of us together, figure out a good team dynamic (class mix) and do our damnedest to make sure our team wins.

I was going to buy this game on Friday. If I could I'd rub warm syrup all over your body and lick it off you. You sir, saved me money!

You should be rubbing me in warm syrup as I was the one that passed it on to him! ;)

EDIT: Sorry about declining everyone's invites yesterday I had a buddy over and he wanted to only play conquest and check out the maps. Today I will be good to go to play with yall.

About the Windows 8 thing, the reason performance is better is DICE has said that CPU optimization is better for Windows 8, apparently it has something to do with Windows 8 CPU scheduler is much better than Windows 7, but I will for one tell you I'm not switching to Windows 8 just for BF4.

I'd recommend going into your Origin account settings and increasing your security by turning on login verification.

I used the VPN trick to unlock it early on Origin, Operation locker (I think that is what it's called) is simply insane. Good fun!

My poor computer is pretty much running at max to run this with high settings 2xMSAA (1080p), CPU load is usually 80-90% my GPU is running at nearly 70c with 60-70% load :(
I'll do some FPS benchmarks later when I have more time with it.

My spec:
Amd AthlonII 64 630 OC to 3.1Ghz (quad core)
8GB DDr3
HIS 7950 3GB
Gigabyte 970a mobo

I think I'm going to be due an upgrade early next year.

That's def your CPU bottlenecking your 7950.

Being looking at an mobo\cpu\ram upgrade recently, I was thinking of going with a Fx8350 or higher. I wouldn't mind going with intel cpu this time but the price.

Go to www.microcenter.com, i7 4770K is 279.99 (330+ everywhere else) and Core i5 4670K is 199.99 (240+ everywhere else)

If you live near one of their stores it can be even cheaper as you can get the CPU + Mobo combo deal.

I live in the UK. Thanks anyway though evo.

I'm getting solid frame rates normally mid 40's on a very rare occasion it will drop to 30 but no lower. 30-70 fps on high settings is pretty good. The graphics are amazing I'm hooked lol!

Speaking of Microcenter...

When I do my build next month I'll be buying the CPU and MB from there and that's it. ONLY because they're so much better priced than anywhere else. For everything else, be it $10-20 more I'll get it somewhere else.

Why?

Well, 2 weeks ago I went to buy a 770 to get Batman for free. They had no cards. Okay, I'll take 3 others and try to trade em for Batman.

Then this week I take that card back to get the 3 free games. Here it is, two days after the promo starts and the day after Nvidia lowers their prices and MC is still charging normal prices and they don't have the cards. It took me like 3 hours between driving and waiting in line/standing around to get any answers from anybody, that place is a pit.

I honestly believe the employees are stealing the cards and selling/trading them online.

The nearest to me is pretty good, I wouldn't buy video cards from there though, I go down to Tigerdirect for that. No taxes in delaware :)

Yeah, this was the second time I bought a card and they didn't have the promo codes. The third time I've gone there to get a card (friend bought one) and they didn't have the code for his card either. You'd think I'd learn by now. I guess I did today though. I keep forgetting about TigerDirect though, gonna check em out now. As it stands I'll be getting my cards through Newegg. Now, I've bought roughly 7k worth of computer parts from newegg over the last decade or so and not once have I received a bad part, but there's always that first time and I KNOW online returns can be a nightmare.

Yeah I got bad ram and bad psu from newegg. I just called them and they took care of me.
