The Order: 1886 (Official Thread)

So who thinks The Order: 1886 is a GOTY contender? This game deserves to be noticed. Ready at Dawn did a great job. 5 hours of greatness. It awaited and it delivered. That's all there is to say about that.

Nope. Gameplay knocks it back several notches. Dying Light is GOTY so far IMO.

Ori is my GOTY so far. The Order is a contender. Any game is a contender. But The Order, while not doing anything NEW, seems to have struck a chord with the general gaming population. I haven't really heard of a single person that has played it that didn't like the game. Combining the graphics, the cinematic approach, in depth story line, solid game play (when there is game play), makes it a worthy GOTY contender IMO.

Still can't believe how good the game looks. The seamless switch from cutscenes to gameplay is so good.

Rented a copy for the weekend. I figure I should be able to finish it once in that time.

Well, I have heard of several people who said the game is very good looking but rather "standard" in gameplay. In contrast, almost everyone that plays Dying Light - loves it! :p So I say DL is *more* of a contender than Order. ;)

Speaking of that.. I can tell the graphics get a big downgrade when that happens. Many people won't notice it, but I definitely do. Also the textures are pretty low res when you view them up close.. also several objects in the world that still have polygonal edges to the polys.. it's a good looking game but has it's flaws..

I would have ended up paying the same $3 I paid at Family Video. I picked it up on thursday and still haven't touched it.

Probably tonight or tomorrow though.

Gotta be honest I'm definitely feeling the lack of quality exclusive games this gen. Maybe it's still too early but I definitely hope Sony gives us quality exclusives just like on the PS3.

Still want to play The Order but definitely not going to pay full price for it.

I guess it depends what you are looking for, but Sony can be pretty slow starters. I think 2016 will be where they really ramp things up.

I'm finding a lot of holes in the graphics guys.. lots of them..

At this point in my game playing, the main draw to the graphics are the painted textures (very good placement of dirt and grime) and the photoreal color palette. Everything else is par for a videogame.

Game was selling for $40 already at Best Buy this weekend, it'll probably be in that range in another month or two.

Resogun, man. Resogun.

Resogun was good for about an hour or two of play.

I got Killzone: Shadow Fall because I was interested in the whole Berlin Wall-like concept, but the SP campaign broke for me because I couldn't get the touchpad controls to work.

But I'm not upset that The Show is the only PS-exclusive franchise I like so far. I'm a huge fan of baseball. Well worth it.

Been playing this for the last couple of days. IMO you would have to be a snob to not like this game.

There will be a sequel. The Order is this generation's Uncharted. Expect bigger and better next time around.

Well, certainly. This first game was just about building the technology. If you judge it just on the basis of it being a third-person shooter, then it feels very bare-bones. The cinematic story was there along with some truly breathtaking visuals. But it felt a bit light on gameplay features (and it was super-easy to platinum). I'm sure the next outing will be spectacular.

Will there be a sequel, even if the sales are poor? Might they not move on to a different franchise?

I bought a copy for $25. I look forward to giving it a spin. I'm a story whore and am gravely tired of shooter mechanics, so I think I'll enjoy it okay.

The shooting mechanics are actually really solid in this one. One of the highlights along with visuals and presentation.

That's good. I was saying that I'm tired of shooters, so although some people complain that there isn't enough action (= shooting) in this game, I think I'll be fine with that. But it's good to know that the shooting is solid.

A movie here is 13 mother flipping bucks here 16 for 3-D so once I can get this game for $20 it's a good deal. Should hit that price point soon.
