The Order: 1886 (Official Thread)

Reliable source from shinobi602: "8-10 hours [normally], 10-12 if you like to take your time, take in the sights and a explore a bit. Difficulty will also change things around."

Stop posting baseless disinfo from lying and malicious fanboy waste like timdog and crapgamer. It's bad enough you flood the forum with copypasted trash from misterxmedia's blog.

Impressions of the Playstation Experience The Order demo were much better than the earlier 5 minute demo. Impressions from people who've played the final or near-final game are good so far, it plays a lot like Gears of War. Fanboys and no-name blogs are still clinging to those outdated old impressions out of blind hatred or clickbaiting.

Of course a Sony exclusive game being flooded with disinfo and FUD is normal.

Its not like Rollins posted that as Gospel, he provided the source and link.

Thank you. And I'll be there I'll even further deflate the situation by posting this from GAF:

"It took me just over ten hours to finish the game. I'm sure there are some freaks on GAF who'll manage to do a very quick playthrough, but I imagine most of you normal folks are going to fall along where I did.

The tweet in Begaria's post, quoting the lunatic who is actually playing the game and who lives in Denmark apparently, has yet to even finish the game from the looks of it."

I don't know why they didn't make a MP portion...could be GOWish.

Ok, so about 10 hours then. That's reasonable.

Here is a making of video. From what I can see, I love their PBR materials. They are definitely on par with AC:Unity. I'd like to see more tech though. The fog looks interesting, but I'm not sure if it's a true volume approach like Lords of the Fallen.

I've decided to take the plunge. The game is too beautiful.

10 hours is fine. And I don't really play much online anyway.

Well that, and I can't think of any other big titles coming out this month.

I thought about getting Bayonetta2 on WiiU. But I can wait until things get really slow.

It does seem like Rollins only posts negative news though and it's usually rumor stuff that ends up not being true. I'm not saying he makes it up because obviously it's stuff he's seeing online but I don't think I've ever seen him post something positive. I'm not saying he's a bad guy, he seems pretty cool but he really does seem to only post negative things about PS4 games that originate from questionable sources of information.

Hardly. The bulk of his stuff is just the crazy MrmediaX type rumor stuff. It's more fun and funny than anything. He's a rumor hound- leave him be, lol.

He's always been more of a Xbox supporter than PS to me but I could be wrong.

Rollins is cool in my book. I don't care if someone is a fan of one platform over another as long as they're not annoying about it.

The articles he brings is similar to the articles I enjoy reading from the guys that analyze every rock and crater on Mars that looks like a face from a Chinese coin in certain lighting conditions.

I love those Mars articles!

Impressive stuff. Too bad there is zero actual GAME in the vid, lol. The clip makes it look like an RPG with all the walking and examining.

It's to avoid any spoilers so combat and all that is left alone. Having said that, best reload animation ever in any game?

Possibly. But I'm finding it very hilarious that people are saying things like "Jesus Christ!! This is the best looking game I've ever seen."..

Make no mistake, this game is clearly the best quality coming out of the PS4 so far. But when you look at it.. the game's art is what's driving it's stunning visuals. That's not a bad thing, but there are similar games with stunning art too.. to the point where I can't make such a strong claim.

2 key things I can tell right away that make the graphics stand out:

1) Physically based materials have been done really really well. I give RAD big props for implementing those shaders. They are one of the best we've seen so far aside from AC:Unity.

2) Photoreal color palette. The company decided to use a desaturated color scheme and many people mistaken this to mean it's real CG. It's far from real CG though.

I got to say that gif looks real. to bad it won't happen in the game as you'd get your ass shot up HA. So want to see what this game is all about wish they would do a demo but I doubt it.

You must be talking about the PC version of Unity set to a high level because it's a very uneven looking game on consoles. There are times where it does look very good but you have to have the camera at the exact right angle with the right lighting, other times it looks pretty sub par with a lot of things looking very flat and a big loss of detail to things that aren't really all that far from the camera. Again I do think it's a good looking game overall but the way you talk about it sometimes makes me think we are looking at two totally different games.

I don't have the PS4 version of Unity, no. However, if you claim things look very flat and a big loss of detail, I believe it. I've found that to be the case even with DriveClub. I'm sure I'll find that limitation with The Order as well. PS4 just doesn't use 16x anisotropic filtering with high res textures in it's games due to hardware constraints. These GIFs are all downsampled and easily gets rid of the artifacts that we'd normally see when watching it on a TV. We have 2 weeks to go to find out!

What are we guessing @ review score wise?

Jot me down for average of 8ish...

Sounds about right. I'm curious to see the reviews. Everything is graphic, graphics, graphics, but graphics don't make a game.

If it gets in the 8s, it'll be a smash hit.

I'm going for 7s like Dying Light.. except it won't have the fun factor as DL, so no chance of it being a cult classic.

I'll clarify a bit, when compared to other open world games AC Unity on the PS4 doesn't hold up in many ways. GTA5 and inFamous both keep things pretty detailed even when they aren't right next to the character, they also have other effects going on that Unity never does and they aren't so reliant on finding the right camera angle to make things look right. Of course they also don't have the pop in issues nor that someone smeared vaseline look on the screen the way Unity does and just both perform better all around so that helps them stand above unity. I know in the case of GTAV it's a port of an older title so they probably aren't pushing the hardware as hard but it still looks great and inFamous really does look quite a bit better than Unity IMO even though it is basically a launch window game.

I don't think Unity was really optimized well for consoles, I know a ton of people worked on the game but Ubisoft should really let their developers work on the game until they feel it's ready instead of just shipping it to meet a release date. There are still some framerate issues although they've been cleaned up a bit but there is still a ton of issues that hurt the overall presentation of the game.

I understand but this is, in fact, a limitation of the hardware and not necessarily of the game. Getting those textures to look more clear will cost ms. Getting rid of the pop-in would require a tremendous overall of the LOD system and even then you're looking at less than ideal details far away (a la Dying Light). I see the same lack of detail in ISS to be honest. Yes, the NCPs have more detail in ISS than AC:Unity but I believe they put such a low res textures on them because there are so many of them.

In any case, outside of the details on characters, I'm not seeing your stance that AC:Unity doesn't look as good environment wise. It stacks up very nicely to The Order and IMO handily beats ISS in that department. Whether it be a more artistic thing that I'm seeing or the PBR, it is still far ahead of what I see in ISS and GTAV.

I think it's likely an artistic thing, I honestly like the style of architecture in Unity better than SS but that has nothing to do with the quality of the graphics it just suits my taste more.

When it comes to which game is just more impressive to look at I'd really have to take SS over Unity on PS4 every time. It's higher res, higher framerate and everything looks clearer and even more detailed up close and from far away than in Unity. Again I don't think Unity looks bad it just looks like a game that had promise but they ran out of time to really get it to what it could have been on consoles.

True, but theres a lot more AI onscreen in Unity, like not even close to the same amount.

A lot of dumb AI lol, they really should have focused on fewer NPC's IMO, made the ones that were on screen look better and work on less texture pop in on their clothes. They also don't have to worry about things like cars, different types of lights, in the case of GTA weather and a day/night cycle etc. They are all open world but focus on different things, the thing is Unity is the worst at doing what they focused on of the three of them.

ISS has even dumber AI than Unity.. :)

I agree.

GTAV is still a port and wouldnt' have had the PBR in place (which is clearly looking to be something to have in games but very expensive).

Disagree. Unity, like The Order, is focusing on shading and materials and lighting. No lighting touches AC:Unity right now.. and Order and Unity are equal at implementing stellar PBR materials.
