Brand loyalty I think is overrated as a reason for Sony's success. XBOX 360 vastly outsold PS3 in UK & US. & in Germany, the split of 360/PS3 is roughly a respectable 40/60. But Sony wide the floor in every major region's current-gen. MS delivered an inferior product at a higher price at launch & acclaimed AAA exclusives can be counted with a single hand (half of them has a Forza name), after almost 7 years....Sony can deliver as many if not more AAA acclaimed titles in a year than all 7 years of MS combined.
If Phil worked in my corporation, he would already be long gone for incompetency. If I am him, I will bow down resign in shame, Japanese style, & choose a different career like I don't know, gardener, call center operator or something that can't be screwed up.
