I am unfit for society.

I waited for 10 days for Dish to send me a box to return their equipment that I paid 3x more than their original cost over the years. Last week they sent an email with info they would send another email with tracking info. That never happened. They and UPS claimed it was delivered yesterday at the same time i walked up my 1/4 mile driveway to get the mail. I got a call today from them in which they hung up on me upon answering. They won't answer my call back. I get on their chat thing to find out all of this shipping garbage. It was supposed to be delivered today in the first place.

I spent 10 hours of my day looking for the box they claimed they sent and left on the side of the road, building my own shipping box, packaging it, arguing with 3 different morons trying to get the info on where and how and what to ship. Nobody ever would be honest. Giving me fake addresses or telling me to call UPS to come get it without telling me WHERE TO SEND IT. Finally got a bold of someone who emailed me a return label for a package that is labeled as 1lB when it's 15 pounds. Now i have to make a 90 mile round trip to the nearest UPS store to fix this and pay $50 extra.

What they don't know is that I'm a redneck and have trail cameras everywhere, and no UPS driver ever came... I can't deal with the most basic things anymore without major issues as a result of the stupidity of others. I must live in the Twilight Zone.
Did you ask to speak to their manager? If you use a woman's voice they get scared and immediately escalate.

I had this same problem with DirectTV years ago. I wanted to cancel my service and send my box back they gave me the run around and till this day say I owe them $500+ because I wouldn’t send the box back even though they would never send me an empty box or where to send it. Customer service was a joke. F*** em.

Can you post a pic of your property? I'm highly intrigued to see it. It must be a vast view?

I kind of relate to this sentiment and wonder if there are reasons I drifted into truck driving after failing miserably in every 'Team' oriented job I've ever tried. Now I have no co-workers and never see a boss and as long as freight shows up when it's supposed to, I'm left alone.

I would like to get out of trucking mostly because it's boring and the hours are long, but when I'm in warehouses or in logistics offices, the idea of working in a busy place seems chaotic and annoying. So, I keep driving.

I guess I'll stick with it, but keep looking for driving jobs with better pay and more stable work schedules.

Amerika 2020;
Government makes all people wear masks, distance themselves from their neighbors and loved ones.
Small (and big) Companies drops dead.
Killer bees.
Cop murders a detained jogger.
People suddenly are allowed to go out (and protest).
Riots.
Talks of pulling police funds and dismantling the police force.

All in the time frame of 6 months...

If I where even a little drawn to believing in conspiracy theories, I'd prob cave in now.

hey, get it right, they’re called “murder hornets”!!!

Twinses...I have cameras around my place too :p

but I gotta ask, forgive my ignorance, what’s the difference between a redneck and a hillbilly? Is it a geographical things like mountain lions and pumas, soda and pop or Carl’s and Hardy’s?

Yup. If you live in a mountainous region, like the Appalachians, you would be considered a hillbilly instead of a redneck.

Sometimes, we need to be more wary of people who told us who to hate, then the people they told us to hate. Remember, Nazi Germany did not make people evil to hate jews, they made people thought Jews were evil to hate jews.

I have come to deduction that most humans are all about emotion. Facts, rationality, reality even history doesn't matter one bit as long as it makes them feels good or outrage. Reality only matters when it hit you in the face & you have to physically deal with it (like not wearing warm clothing & got your S froze in a cold night, or writing code that doesn't run correctly).

Yesterday I was hiking with some friends & an Indian Friend started talking about the current affair & to get to the chase, I said everyone includes the Buddha & Gandhi had said/made controversial statements or did some not so nice things. People cannot be judge solely on a few bad aspects of them & ignore other good or via visa.

I said Gandhi had also some not so nice statements about black people before, so are we going to take down his statues ( Turn out 1 of his statue was actually taken down in Ghana due to statements about blacks during his time in South Africa). He went NUTS. Accuse me of BS & conspiracy theory, & refuse to believe me. I told him he doesn't need to believe me, it was his actual words, or record by someone, & not my opinion. He went on even more nuts claiming Gandhi (who I found out his idol) can do no wrong & never ever said racist thing etc. I said, sure I show you the links to his statement. He refuses to see, saying 90% of the internet is fake...The same guy that takes "Internet" at face value if it was something about people he dislikes, but downplay any negativity against people he agrees with or simply refuse to believe. I don't pretend to be unbias, but at least I try to be consistent. If something is bad, or good, I can acknowledge that whether I like the people in question or not.

Sounds just like a Trump supporter.

State of the world I'm afraid.
I'm fairly sure about 80% of the civilized world's inhabitants are mindless sheep when it comes to information indoctrination, it prob makes sense in an evolutionary aspect but it clearly isn't optimal with how information flows today.

When I was little, we would watch America funniest home videos on TV, & we came to the conclusion. Americans were stupid. We would watched on TV the Olympic, & came to the conclusion, East German women all looked like rough-looking beef up men.

You will be laughing how can anyone be some deluded to believe everything base on TV. But this is exactly what happens today, except we replace TV with social media that create a hivemind echo chamber.

But is could these things in media be coming true from a kind of media feedback loop and financial incentives or self monetization?

Can people be further incentivied to be even more stupid hence the insanely dangerous Parkour videos putting themselves at great risk hoping to be a next YouTube star? Or Athletes seeking an edge in their sport by whatever insane means necessary?

Strangely, I was thinking about the latest nominated Grumpy Cat 2020 and have wondered if in some circles Meme Pets will influence animal breeders and in a few more dog/cat generations, young people will have cartoonish genetic freaks for pets.

I think the Media is an issue, but I wonder if there are other systemic issues upstream that influence the media itself to behave the way it does.

People want attention, & you either do something amazing (which many can't ) to do or say something extreme or dumb. Like Planking or bottle challenge. Imagine a competition in writing poems....well that would be hard. Do some dumb or dangerous stuff. far easier. Media need attention so they have to sensationalize things even if not verified.

Anyway, one of the best things I did is to focus on my own goals & ignore social media. A friend I talked to ask, so you argue on the internet, so what did you achieve at the end of the day?

For what it's worth, I think the financial incentive or disincentive goes both ways as well as the attention. I think for some reason, intellectual or artistic achievement is no longer getting much of a return for people and the attention for something related to poetry would be very fleeting. There may be rare breakout performances that are exceptions to this, but even then it's probably because mass media was involved in producing a crappy show.

You're right though that many people naturally seek attention, but I feel that systemic social or even economic infuencing are making this into something insane.

I wonder how all the attention seeking kids will handle the fall of civilization (and internet).

Went camping in northern WI with parents and my brother and his family. Haven't camped in probably 20 years unfornately. Had a ton of fun so definitely want to get out more. Haven't been to northern WI in probably just as many years and it's so beautiful up there in the woods. Tons of wildlife, with deer probably so used to traffic they don't dart across the road or get spooked if you drive by like 10 feet from them. Went boating on Sunday and got burnt to a crisp so I'm good for the rest of summer lol. Also went kayaking and biking a lot. I usually do gravel trails where I live but the trails I went on there were asphalt but much better views. Think my brother is going back in August so may just head up there again. Hell if it wasn't so far away from family I'd think about moving there.

In Germany, the government is pretty hands-free & it's up to individual business/org & person to enforce their own safety. Then again here, people are rules-obliging, & if told the need to keep distance & wear the mask, we just follow without drama.
