The Steambox thread.

How will it stack up against the X1 at the same price? I'm actually pretty interested. Depending on how the VR and game library pan out, I might get a Steambox and Wii U, f*** a PS4/X1.

I'd imagine it will be close. Good part is that you can upgrade later if you ever want to. It'll take a pretty beefy GPU for VR gaming. Needs to be a constant 60 FPS at 1080p+ in stereoscopic 3d.

Steambox is a terrible codename. It should be codenamed Steaminghotsexbox.

This is iBuyPower.com's "Steam Machine" not Steambox.

There will be dozens of these from several companies. People need to stop talking about this product like its a single console.

Really it's SteamOS, and you can install it anywhere. Valve is just encouraging small form factor designs and allowing companies to use Steam branding and logos.

For $500 from ibuypower you get a full PC with a Radeon R9 270, which is slightly more powerful than PS4's GPU and much more powerful than Xbox's GPU, in terms of TF. Of course it still has to contend against console optimization.

The PC will benefit greatly with AMDs low-level Mantle API.

The Steam Community post about it claims it's for intrepid Linux users only.

I'm not.. really that.. but I'm sure I can figure it out. I'll just be dual-booting most likely anyways.

I'm a r****d.. it's the 12th today.

Steam OS releases tomorrow.

Way too many joke posts on this forum for my tastes.. need to get the OTL busier so people stop on topic thread s***ting here. Haha a sandwich! Funny!

Of course PC is "superior," I agree. I almost put together a super PC instead of getting a One. Both consoles were already underpowered compared to PC's because they take 3 gigs of RAM away for the operating systems & shut two cores off for the operating system on top of already having lower specs than PC.

If it weren't for One being a standard platform & all my friends being on it, I would have got a new PC.

Along those lines of being "superior" too like I said of course it's going to be because you can put any graphics card in a PC & any RAM/processor you want too. That's always going to be the more powerful option whereas consoles are mass produced standardized systems.

How much you want to bet this is the year when Half-Life 3 is finally announced as a Steam exclusive for a while on SteamBox that will ship later next year?

I've been needing a whole new pc for some time now. If it comes with the controller and installing windows on will be painless, I can see myself getting this. I'm actually curious how the new controller performs.

But i can learn from other's mistakes and I know well enough never to to get launch stuff and just wait it out until all the reviews come in.

But my old pc, 360, and ps3 are sitll chugging along so i guess ill try steam os on my current hardware and see how it handles.

I'm not sure how this will be made available but if it comes with an option to include dependencies, make sure you take that option.

You have it yet ?

I may try it out too. I have a free HDD with nothing on that I could install it too.

It's not up for download anywhere yet.

Lame announcement Valve.. lol.. it's 1:00 PM here (Valve is down the road).

Yeah...I hate it when they announce something and then leave you waiting all day before they put it out.

I guess you will have it while i'm sleeping. So some impressions would be nice....from installation to overall performance and usability.

Will do. Although it is Friday night... I can't pretend to be some jet setter anymore in my old age but it's quite possible I will be too busy to mess with it tonight. I'll be out and about on the town being a social butterfly (read: passed out on the couch with my hand in my pants)

At the very least I'll be downloading it.. reading about it, etc. If I get a wild hair I might even install it! Maybe go to Home Depot, look at some flooring.

Steam Box unboxing. It's official, valve has better engineers then MS and Sony lol. I kid, but it's still amazing they fit a titan and internal powersupply in that tiny box.

I was heavy into PC gaming back in mid to late 90s but sort of got fed up with the complications of upgrading systems back then but I am considering getting back into PC gaming and this steam box looks like it could swing me!
Especially if they are fully upgradable etc
Does anyone know how upgradable they are please re gfx cards, ram etc

I understand many companies will be bringing out their own versions of the steam box, but valve are def bringing out their own system right?
And are the other systems getting a valve stamp of approval?
