The Witcher 3: Official Thread v. 2.0

So yesterday was my worst save bug issue yet - lost over 2 hrs of progress.

You MUST manually save regularly (which was my mistake). As soon as the game refuses to save (message "You cannot save now" or similar, like when on a quest), stop playing immediately and do a full console shutdown! At that point it won't be saving anything, auto or manual.

As tedious as it is, I'm going to get in the habit of saving every 10 mins or so just to be safe, until they fix this.

4K!, what system you are running.

I have a 970GTX, i74790, 16G, & it runs well at 60fps (no Hairworks though). I think it will required a beast to run at 4K.

I don't really have a beast of a machine (i-7/920,16G,Titan X). But after viewing 4k in games, I can not go back. I've got it locked to 30fps, which is just fine for me. It still dips down to 26-27fps during really strenuous circumstances (i.e. Hairworks on with camera zooming in, or rain coming down while riding the horse in a swamp full of trees).

The 60FPS target would be good, but I'm more into the "look" of games as opposed to the smoothness unless it really hinders gameplay.

Yea, I heard about this bug, but I had been manually saving anyway because I hate downloading software hacks from the net. I don't even have that Reshade stuff people are using for the color change. I like the colors as the original producers intended.

Yes. Its pretty overwhelming when you even see the map. There are huge river network, so you need to travel often by boat. Its pretty awesome so far.

Edit: Not wanting to make a new post, but I heard higher difficulties yield less XP! No wonder it takes ages to level up. I think I switch back to normal. I like the challenge of monsters on hard, but it doesn't make sense, to be level 15, when I could be level 2o playing on normal. Slowing progress as a mean to add challenge is lame. Lucky I am only level 8 now.

Nah. I disagree here.. I absolutely LOVE the challenge on HARD. I have to be very careful how I fight.. it reminds me of DS. The game would get too boring for me on Normal as I level up.

I had that bug on X1 but I always save before/after fights etc
Force of habit from Skyrim lol
Until they fix it, I have been quitting game before I turn off Xbox, I goto main menu and then go home and quit game from there before shutting down.
Think they know about this and are addressing it soon.

Yes. Just remember to not uninstall your game save, it's on the right hand side.
It's worth giving a try because it's obviously a bug as it doesn't affect everyone's game.
Really hope it fixes it for you because that stuttering looks annoying. Same on PS4 version but again only seems to be affecting certain consoles.

I am gonna do that tonight when i go to sleep. If i now uninstall it and install it again, it's gonna take a looooooong time with my internet connection (digital version). Even if this won't help it, CDPR is working on the issue....so it should be fine eventually. So it seems to be an issue with certain Xbox Ones, really odd. Most of my friends notice the hiccups though, though they don't find it bothering.

Yes, I'm on X1 too, should have mentioned that. I only have myself to blame for going so long without saving, it's just been so long since Skyrim that I'm out of practice!

Thankfully I love this game, so right after the initial "NOOOOOO!!!!", I just dove back in and replayed that part.

Anyone happen to know if the side dialogue (choices not highlighted) affects the story? I skipped a bunch on my 2nd run through, since I already knew all the info. Hoping that wasn't a mistake.

According to the official forum, the experence poit drops on higher difficulties is just a rumor & haven't been really confirmed.

I think the challenge on hard (blood & broken bone) is ok, but but I wonder if the extra challenge is worth the extra chores like eat between battles & (if true) cost of leveling.

I've been playing on B&BB from the start and it has not been much of a chore at all. I have yet had to grind or wait to do any quests because of needing healing items. Big help in this has been the Sun and stars ability though, which lets you regen during the day. That and using a quick meditation to refill potions really works well.

Little tip;Do not anger the guards and then lose to them. They take all your coins. I had nearly 800 coins and they took them all :txbmad::txbmad: A bloodbath ensued in the crap hole of Crows Perch:txbmad::txbmad:

Man, fighting from horseback has allowed me to beat enemies of a much higher level. I'm only level 4, but on horseback I can take out a gaggle of level 10 bandits :)

I am actually struggling with horse-back combat. I always miss.

Been messing with SweetFX E3 settings lately....some quick 1080p shots I took. I'll upload 4k ones later. So far looks better than the oversaturated vanilla.

looking at that video the textures are immediately and noticably sharper on PC ver.
also the physics too. the PC version has physics on the hair of that griffin trophy and on the mane of the horse. I'm. and the water is prettier too. They didn't bother to how any combat with the hair-covered wolves and creatures. That makes the comparison improper for not trying to show all the differences between the versions.

It doesn't work on shorter enemies very well, and goules can scare the horse quickly. You have to make strafing runs so you can line up your attack. It can be hard in tight spots because the horse can get wonky, and fighting other humans on horseback is harder because they move more. Still, it's fun knocking a level 7 off his horse, with only one more strike to kill him.

Just get some room and rush in, holding down "x" to slow time, once past, just turn around when it's safe. It does probably double to triple your normal damage. Lots of beheading and splitting-in-half ensues!

I love that this is a thing in this game, and it is truly deadly as it is in reality.

Is there not a graphics comparison thread? By all means, post cool pics of what you see in the game here, but can we stop this s***, please?

I should probably amend that you must release the "X" button about when the enemy is in front of Geralt's leg, though he can still hit them when they are right aside him. I think the timing has an effect on how much damage he does.

I try to stay on horse whenever there is a group. If you keep moving, they have a hard time hitting you. Geralt also automatically switches attacks to the correct side as well. There is a lot of timing and positioning involved, but it's worth it.

Yeah. Ditto.
No more pics in this thread. Only talk about the game and mechanics or impressions.
Pics can stay. I am liking the pics. We just need the graphic comparisons to cease.

Ok, will keep that timing in mind. I guess I just need to practice, but with how difficult the game is I seem to lose patience quickly & default to what I know well.

If you are having trouble, then I think getting it down is a must. Think of the horse like a jet on a bombing run. You have to circle back and line up your attack. I've tried to fight these bandits on foot, and I die very quickly. The horse is a fantastic tool and makes you quite formidable. Just like any tool, though, you have to know when to use it or not.

The quests in this game are really well done, I can't stress that enough. Bioware could stand to take some notes, as they are making Dragon Age Inquisition seem 2nd rate, IMO.

Ok once you get to Velen and meet the Baron, I recommend doing all the horse races immediately after(just west of his castle), they are pretty easy and you can earn 300 gold total if you max out the wager each time. You also get the saddle bags.

Horseback combat is so satisfying. I just wish they would slow the action down after you swing and cut so you can see the limbs fly!! LOL! It happens so fast that you can hardly tell what happened!

I'm level 6 now, but still don't have enough ingredients to make any bombs or oils. I keep picking flowers and looting bodies, but still missing stuff. Any tips? Do I need to buy some?

Got the extra horse saddles so my inventory is now 90, can you buy more or is this max please?
Game gets better and better, easily one of the best RPGs I have played to date!!
