Titanfall: The Official Thread v2.0

I'm at a 4.5 K/D for the game, 1.6 or 7 against human players. I normally get 2 to 3 Titan kills a game since when my Titan explodes, the Titan that did it to me seems to always forget about me ejecting so I either fall on his Titan or hop on it from behind and get a rodeo kill. Played 23 games so far. Only lost like 3 or 4 of them.

I've only played Attrition and here's some general tips I've used for my play style. I've also maxed out level 14 s I have all the unlocks and custom classes

- Rifleman, using carbine with suppressor and that ACOG
- Arc grenade. I find using frags kind of useless, but tossing an Arc or two at enemy Titans helps
- Cloak
- The default anti-Titan lock on missile
- I play long range and can kill many enemies
- I use Cloak whenever possible... keep spamming it
- That perk that shows on the radar at all times grunts/minions
- I never bother trying to rodeo a Titan. You have to do it cautiously or else you get stomped

- Titan
- Chaingun
- Nuclear bomb self destruction
- Auto eject
- The default unguided missile 6 or 8 pack shot (whatever it's called)

When a Pilot, I go against the grain lone wolf style. I take a sharp left or right and head for high escalations. I'll equip Cloak when I get to a vantage point and skim for enemies. I look out for enemies running and jumping all over because these are human gamers. AI typically move in packs on the ground. They also have bad aim, so the chances of getting killed by one is slim.

Unlike CoD, where I holed up in buildings, don't bother. If anything, try to aim for high vantage points whose rooftops also have big metallic structures for cover.

I focus on killing the human pilot if in range as opposed to AI grunts.

I use the perimeter of the map and try to rack up kills as much as possible before moving to another location. Unlike CoD, you can't camp a spot forever. Be on the look out for easy AI kills when their drop ship lands and 3-4 AI come storming out. Easy pickings.

For Titans, I don't have a strategy for activation. I just activate it asap. Again, I use the perimeter route and try to flank other Titans. Auto-eject makes it easier when critically damaged. Make sure to Disembark when a rodeoer is shooting your mech's head. Kill him and go back in if possible.

My style of Titan warfare is blitz. Flanking or head on I shoot my volley of 6-8 pack missiles, sometimes use the shield thing (I forget half the time), chaingun as much as possible. BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY, side dash to avoid shield reflected bullets when I see him doing that glowing hand thing. I also like to dash twice fast at at Titan and punch it as much as possible. It does good damage. Make sure to dash away when the enemy Titan is glowing white as that means it's going to self destruct.

When I am not in a Titan, but trying to help take one down, I cloak and try to release 2-3 anti-Titan lock on missiles. They do a decent amount of damage. Not enough to kill them outright, but if an enemy Titan is near it's last legs, a missile can finish the job.

The game is all about Titan control. I typically get 2-4 Titan kills a game.

Great write up, ive been using the other anti titan weapon as it seems to work on grunts and pilots also if I get caught with it out but maybe I will switch back to the locking missile. How do you know someone is on your Titan shooting its head, does the game say something cause I didnt notice it last night? So pretty much hit X when this is happening then try and get back in after you kill them?

The game lets you know when some one is on your Titan's back, plus your health meter is going down with the shield taking no damage. A smoke screen gets rid of them or some one will shoot them off of you.

eastside is spot on.

Also, when it gets bad, a "hold X to disembark" line should show on screen. I think this only shows up when an enemy is shooting your Titan's head.

Chrome,

Don't forget to double jump. I know that sounds dumb, but I don't think any shooters have that. I didn't even use it for the first batch of games as I was used to CoD style of leaping at a wall and hoping the character can pull himself up. But half the time no need for that as you can just double jump to a rooftop no problem. So use it to get to high elevations. It is also very important for when you auto-eject from a Titan. Your guy flings into the air 100 ft and you can kind of drift his direction to lets say a safe rooftop. But you can also double jump when ejected. So it should help you find a safe area easier.

Rumor: Titanfall to feature 14 maps at launch? Names Revealed

Titanfall beta is currently underway which contains two maps, namely Fracture and Angel City, and considering it’s a multiplayer only game people are interested to know how many maps the game will ship with.

It seems there may be 13 maps in all, as a NeoGAF member has discovered the names of the said maps using a Hex editor.

Update: He has discovered another map called O2, so that takes the total to 14.

You can find them below.

  • Angel city
  • Colony
  • Fracture
  • Relic
  • Airbase
  • Boneyard
  • Corporate
  • Outpost
  • Lagoon
  • Rise
  • Smugglers Cove
  • Training ground
  • Overlook
  • Nexus
  • O2
This is definitely a good amount of content to start with and presumably more maps will be added as DLC. However, take this a rumour for now.

Possibly 15 total maps @ launch....

A word if advise for people wanting to rodeo a titan. It may work on newer players to just do it, but as people learn the game or as you run into more experienced players, it's a sure fire way to get yourself killed. They will either drop smoke or disembarke and shoot you down. For me, there are only two situations when I will rodeo. 1. If they are already engaged in a battle with another titan. 2. If the titan is in auto mode and doesn't have a pilot in it. Sticking with this I've lived a lot long and had a much higher success rate.

hehe i have my titan on follow mode like 80% of the time and im constantly looking at what he is doing. ive actually killed a lot of pilots who rodeo my titan why its on auto pilot. I still think what you said is the best thing to do though. =D

Has anybody else felt like their Titan really is their best friend in the game?

Still say they need to do something with the carbine. It wins at every range unless it's a shotgun and even then it wins to often

This game's the best in the world at what it does. Titanfall is taking GOTY easily. It's a sure thing.

really ? you do know games like Destiny , Witcher 3, watchdogs, and the division ( hopefully) are all coming this year too. GOTY hype based on a BETA seems a little silly to me.

That's how good the beta is mate.......Whatever Destiny is, it will not be Titanfall and vice versa. Early for GOTY shouts and 15 maps will get old quickly, however with DLC and such I'm sure the game will be top of the nominations come year end.

There is a difference between giving a nomination nod and claiming it GOTY. There are so many interesting and quality looking titles coming this year that we have yet to play or even see in a big way.

Titanfall will get a GOTY nod. The BETA is too fun for the full games to just crash and burn. Not to mention there hasn't been a gaming show yet that Titanfall was in that it didn't win GOTS. Look for this game to garner mid to high 9s and 10s across the board in reviews. We shall see how great it does in sales, but my prediction will be in the millions and the X1 will have a big pop in sales for March, April and May due to this game.

People are really enjoying that Beta though. I expect Titanfall to set a benchmark for addictive multiplayer and carry that through to the end of the year. I suspect The Division will slip into early 2015 but would love to be proven wrong.

Destiny just has a lot of hype. I'm still waiting for a vid to blow me away..not graphically, but fun factor wise. Bungie needs to show more than just a vehicle and some empty gameplay here and there. Atm I put more faith into Titanfall or The Witcher 3 (cause of the storyline and epic characters for the latter if 2 is anything to go by) to get GOTY. Not convinced for Destiny (yet).

That they are. I too am really enjoying the BETA.

Love guard and follow mode. It is awesome to take a hardpoint and set your Titan on guard and blast people on the inside of the building. Follow is just to cool as well. Everyone talking about the AI of the bots I want the AI of my Titan to be better when in those two modes.

There's a perk in the full game that does that.

Agreed. I don't think TF is the shoe in for GOTY people are thinking. Too many great games coming out this year.

Found this in a news article about the Campaign in Titanfall.

This is Joel Emsile (titanfall lead artist) talking at an event in London last week.

“Once you go through the whole campaign from one side, you go through it again with the other,” said Emslie. “Each level will have a story with two outcomes, a win or a loss, which is complemented by a theatrical moment. It all plugs into a large story arc.

“Our intention was to stray away from the scripted AI story, which is almost as if you’re on a rail.”

"But Emslie admits that no matter whether you win or lose each battle, the plot unfolds on the same final path."

So, it looks like you can play the Campaign as either IMC or Militia. I like that. Adds at least two play throughs for that mode. Also it seems it does't matter if you lose a map in story mode, the story just continues anyway. I would have thought you would have to win a map in story mode in order to advance it.

Hot damn! I wonder how many Titanfall threads there are in this forum officially. Definitely comes across as the most popular game around these parts at the moment.
