Want to watch BF4 in full 1080p/60FPS next-gen quality?

I swear; the more time moves on the worse these posts get and the myth making is just waaay out of hand here. Sony better at software? Are you serious?

Who is this guy?o_O

I didn't say that, I said there was a choice (notice the 'or' in the sentence).

There's nothing wrong with the hardware either. Look mate; I'm not going to go jump on the merry-go-round with you on this topic. There's so much information out there, so many myths, lies, rumors etc, that it makes no sense to even try to have a rational discussion about this. Not to mention we are only speaking about two games for a ten year shelf life for both consoles. This is just the beginning. Both consoles can display 1080p @60 fps. There are games to prove it. 1080p isnt the be all-end all however. Especially when we consider games like RYSE is 900 and look incredible. What we all care about is fantastic look, fun games and we have them. I personally think gamers have too high of expectations for these games. But thats just me....

Well let's look at some of the PR/ignorant tech claims:

offloading/15 coprocessors - bunk, most of those coprocessors are dedicated to Kinect or are standard AMD GCN features

upscale - bunk, there is no magical amazing upscaler, the BF4 720p footage makes that obvious

balance - bunk, PS4 is both more powerful and more balanced

custom - bunk, PS4 is just as or more custom built, the GPGPU and hUMA features for example

upclock - insignificant

tiled resources - may be used to get around ESRAM limits in the future, but at the moment bunk

DDR3 vs GDDR5 latency - bunk

bottlenecks - bunk, the largest bottleneck between either console is XB1's ESRAM and 16 ROPs

"MS is better at software" - bunk, turned out XB1's dev tools and OS were lagging behind PS4

"no 30% advantage" - bunk, it's ~50% more GPU power, unified memory advantages, twice the ROPs, and far better GPGPU

Some of the most outrageous nonsense, FUD, and straight up falsehoods was posted by Penello himself on GAF:

"People DO understand that Microsoft has some of the smartest graphics programmers IN THE WORLD. We CREATED DirectX, the standard API’s that everyone programs against. So while people laude Sony for their HW skills, do you really think we don’t know how to build a system optimized for maximizing graphics for programmers? Seriously?

There is no way we’re giving up a 30%+ advantage to Sony. And ANYONE who has seen both systems running could say there are great looking games on both systems. If there was really huge performance difference ? it would be obvious. If it comes out after we launch that the difference between 3rd party games is maybe single-digit FPS between the two platforms, will I get an apology or concession?"

Hyrb on Reddit: "We have some of smartest programmers in the world working on Xbox One. I am very much looking forward to the next few months (and beyond) as the truth comes out."

Well the truth came out, and their PR campaign was revealed as a deceptive sham. Once again, they are NOT making claims that graphics don't matter, or that people won't notice, but claims that XB1 was factually more powerful than it really was.

I'll also note the many forum posters repeating the same ignorant buzzwords and claims ad nauseum, at least until the BF4 footage finally started putting nails in the XB1 power coffin.

Meanwhile, Sony employees and execs have been mostly quiet about the PS4's hardware advantage. Certainly nothing high profile like the 4-5 DF interviews, constant Leadbetter nonsense, and Hyrb/Penello campaigning on Twitter, GAF, and Reddit. So when I hear "Sony lies and FUD" I can only think it's some kind of deranged bizarro world attempt to turn the truth upsidown. But then again this is misterx we're talking about (and anyone who thinks like him).

and due to this http://www.redgamingtech.com/xbox-one-esram-720p-why-its-causing-a-resolution-bottleneck-analysis/
it seems very unlikely (or not without sacrifice) to overcome.

You have proof that all of these claims are bunk correct? We need links here!

Because there's rumors and FUD by fans, we should ignore reliable insiders like thuway, famousmortimer, etc. that have been consistently more right than wrong? Okay.

I was told, repeatedly, that MS's 'software advantage' would make XB1 as or more powerful than PS4. "We INVENTED DirectX!" That turned out to be bunk, as software can't breach a hardware gap. Furthermore, MS's dev tools are apparently behind rather than ahead, and anything MS can do in software, Sony and other big devs can.

This is the one and only link you need to pore over right now:

watched the xb1 video, love the smoothness, but the aliasing is making my eyes bleed lol.

hopefully with the right contrast/sharpness some of that aliasing is eliminated since DF screwed that up.

And we are seeing precisely that! Games on XO are holding their own against the Ps4 and there's only two games at this point where the rez is the only indicator (if it can be assumed as such) of "more powerful". Rez isnt enough. Period. The graphical fidelity is the same on BOTH consoles and the small flaws with the XO version of either two games aren't deal breakers by any means. Not to mention you've stated yourself that perhaps the dev tools on XO are behind those of the Ps4. The more power argument is acutely flawed. To assume this is something we will continue to see throughout the generation is extremely premature at this point. Not to mention that XO (again...AGAIN) has games running at 1080p @60fps. But whateve...

And your link proves nothing. You made claims based on your opinion of the matter, and whats more, you spoke as if you had inside knowledge of how this stuff actually works. You dont. Admit it! You're assuming and myth making rather than basing any of your posts on actual facts. The XO has at least one game that shoots holes through your entire argument and its currently at 900 resolution. Not to mention is probably the most visually impressive launch game for both consoles. So for the last time, quit spouting FUD for facts. Its just your opinion and you're completely free to share that, but not at the expense of mis leading others.

So, for quite some time, we've seen the term SDF thrown around over at TXB. I think it's time we start using the term MSDF thrown around.

I just wish people would accept the facts and information given to them and just accept it, instead of posting pages and pages of excuses trying to prove otherwise. It's like half the members here work for MS or something.

Resolution is a pretty big indicator of power, the more pixies you push the more power you need to shade each of them. The PS4 is more pushing a significantly large amount more pixels (50% for BF4 and 100% for COD) this is a difference which is actually far larger then 99% of the resolution differences of last gen that people said were so indicative of power.

Well something is causing the Microsoft multi plats to be a lower reso and according to you its not the software. Leading to the conclusion that it must be the other factor, the hardware. Its not like the hardware gap (which is around 40%-90% after the up clock depending on the metric we are measuring) isn't well know, but of course some people like dispute maths.

not to mention the head tracking etc.

No one has yet explained to me how head tracking is a plus. You turn your head so your soldier turns his head, now you're not looking at the screen, so uh... how you gonna aim, let alone win the gun fight?

Oh, you can turn your eyes? Okay, do that, do that now on your TV or PC monitor. Now do that for several hours and tell me how your eyes feel.

P.S. the "conversation" that started after McM posted this are the very reason we NEED A VS. THREAD/FORUM. Here's another thread that's going to end up closed no later than the end of the week.

I personally believe that you are expecting too much from next gen consoles but thats my opinion mate. I'm really not a fan of this dispute about resolutions as the conversation tends to go round and round. I mean sure, I can tell you that there are games on the XO that are in fact 1080p @60 fps (not to mention resolution has nothing to do with graphical fidelity) and you in turn will resort to using BF4 and CoD while completely ignoring what I stated, and then I'll simply remind you again of the same facts and as sure as sky is blue, you will continue on your rant about BF4 and CoD while completely dismissing [anything] that I've said to further debate that the Ps4 is more powerful because it pushes more pixels on two games--two LAUNCH GAMES no less.
I've known, just as many others have that the Ps4 has powerful hardware moreso than the XO (if the spec sheet is to be believed). This isnt new so stop pushing the issue. Where I disagree is that the power of the Ps4 over shadows that of the XO by any huge margin, whatsoever. Yet Sony fanboys want to continue to state as fact, that more pixels is THE indication that the Ps4 is more powerful while ignoring that the XO more than handles its own and STILL retains launch games that are in fact 1080p @60 fps, regardless if its BF4 or NBA 2K or Forza 5.

Fact of the matter is kb, you have no idea how much of a percentage of power the PS4 has over the XO because you, like may others, didnt create them, didn't have hands on with the hardware while in the incubation stage etc. You tout your opinion as a fact when in reality is simply your opinion and nothing more. You like the other Sony fanboys refuse to admit this. You dont really know. Neither do I. But if what we've SEEN is anything to go by, the XO is more than capable and the alleged glory of the Ps4 is not in the pixels, it lies in its future potential still.

I'm done mate. I'm getting off this ride....

No we're not seeing "precisely that". We're seeing the obvious PS4 ~50% GPU advantage, plus MS's much vaunted "software mastery" falling on its face with rushed dev tools and OS features.

It doesn't matter how you slice resolution, IQ, framerate, PS4 has 50% more GPU power to work with. Playing the "res doesn't matter" red herring doesn't work. PS4 could run BF4 at 720p with better IQ and framerate than XB1. If Ryse was on PS4 it could run at 1080p comfortably, or add more framerate or IQ at 900p. Deceptive Leadbetter bunk does not work on people who understand technology.

We know the confirmed specs, we know the performance delta, and games like BF4 match the performance delta pretty well. Sticking your head in the sand about them doesn't delude anyone but yourself.

Yes XB1's dev tools are behind, in addition to being a weaker system. They'll catch up so we won't see things like CoD 720p vs 1080p anymore, but the hardware gap will always be there.

I'm more likely to trust multiple insiders that have been consistently right (famousmortimer, for example) rather than throw my hands in the air, or god forbid believe anything misterx is saying.

You were all over misterx in the now locked thread, yet you still haven't given up on him, have you?

So far, it's a pretty clear indication that games developed for the last generation perform better when ported to the PS4.

I can do simple maths. Believe it or not the architectures of the next gen systems are for the most part pretty much identical to desktop computers you do not have to have had a hand in the architecture of it to understand the relative difference between the two when we know so much from desktop parts. For what its worth right now it seems its far easier to hit 1080P on the Ps4 wether that is indicative of tools, hardware or developers is another story.

We've gone from "offloading upscale balance shape custom upclock tiled resources latency parity bottleneck" to "it's dev tools and lazy devs, wait a couple years, we can't possibly know yet".

Completely wrong. Anyone who understand tech has known the hardware performance difference between the consoles as soon as the official specs were released. Anyone who doesn't admit that is in denial or ignorant.

you don't believe in the local cloud and internet cloud?

cause now that's what a certain blog is claiming lol.

You keep saying this but then you keep coming back defending the same company over and over again even in light of the facts. You have become the biggest MSDF on a predominantly Xbox fan forum, even astro is pretty much gone.

No one is saying there is anything wrong with your precious. It just isn't and never will be as powerful as the PS4 and the sooner you face facts the easier your life will be.

Paper specs are literally real, its not just numbers on paper. What is written on "paper" is what the hardware actually is and always will be. There seems to be a disconnect with you about this, like you are waiting for some magic or hidden spec. And you seem to not know that resolution, just like frame rate and color bit depth, scales linearly with power. Let that sink in for you because that is just a fact of life, has nothing to do with Microsoft or Sony, and will never change for the rest of your life because you can't create independent pixels out of nothing, colors that are not there, and frames that never happened.

So you are going to have to either choose 1) lazy devs, 2) the hardware is just that hard to develop for, 3) Microsoft has bad software tools, or 4) the specs are not a fantasy they are actually real... to explain BF4 and COD (and soon to be AC4 and NFS Rivals if the reports are any indication). Or a combination of the above.

And what exactly is the PS4 Color Bit?

And what exactly is the PS4 Color Bit?

Color bit depth varies depending on what format of buffer you use, which depends on what you are trying to do but in all honestly they probably both support the same final output bit depth to the screen.

My guess would be 10 bit as most displays right now accept 10 bit
