US is only one of many markets these consoles are launching in. Initial sales all come down to supply chain in these cases so they mean nothing. Besides, who cares- would it be so bad if we picked up the new gen where the last left off, with Microsoft and Sony pretty much sharing the top and Nintendo being an formidable alternative. Wars are stupid and benefit gamers in absolutely no way.
The NFL waged a game war one time. It was only a bidding war over a single title, not a strangle hold on the entire industry, just a sliver of the sports gaming market. Madden won that war, and without competition, the ability to stay stale. Gamers lost.
A console war would end a lot more than a genre. We have seen Sony's reluctance to embrace online gaming and social connectivity and we have seen Microsoft try to strong arm its DRM and 'always on' functionality down our throats. Without competition there are no choices and that means gamers loose. Plain and simple.
Put down your arms are embrace your fellow gamers. If you want to wage a war, do it against micro-transactions.
