Weekly sales chart USA.... it may or may not be reliable, but...

Is vgchartz still unreliable and making up numbers out of thin air? Yes? Ok then.

Their "methodology" page is pretty weak.

Someone also posted an entire article they wrote defending their numbers..

All very revealing.. they essentially claim to have a few retail managers on speed dial.. who tell them sales numbers, the rest is them guessing from trends and polls.

The "managers on speed dial" is incredibly suspect too. It would be managers risking their jobs, as no company wants their store employees giving out sales numbers.. let alone how detailed they'd have to be considering VGChartz lists not only console hardware numbers but software numbers as well. Who is going to do that?

"Oh yeah, thanks for calling.. let me sit on the phone for half an hour and list off sales of every single SKU in our computer for you.. cuz like.. yer a web site!"

Let alone that they break this down by region... so they'd need tons of retail stores from all over the world.

They are grade A bulls***ters.. they most likely have a piece of software that generates most of their numbers for them. They do enter REAL metrics once they are released.. so for cumulative totals post-major announcements they are an OK source of actual data, but everything in between is incredibly suspect.

I wouldn't be shocked if they simply took known numbers, and then as weeks go on add a percentage based on trends.. up until the next known number is released.

What's worse is they publish articles that claim something "Has surpassed another product" or "Reached this goal".. with zero wording in their articles that it's an estimate.. they don't even link to their methodology in those articles.

Last year when they wrongfully announced the PS3 had passed the 360 they completely failed to mention that it was an estimate.

In fact, they claimed it was based on "sales data".. which is incredibly misleading.. no link to methodology, etc.

And they have yet to correct their own charts.

MS announced 80 million sales this October.

Sony announced 80 million sales in November.

Indicating that 360 is still ahead of PS3 worldwide.. yet the VGChartz "data" still claims Sony is well ahead.. now at 81+ million, with MS not reaching 80 million yet.. despite probably being well above 81 million at this point considering they sold a ton in October and November.

Their fake "PS3 surpassed 360" article was repeated by every major gaming news source and not even questioned.

Game journalism is the BIGGEST JOKE.

these threads on sales numbers are rather silly if you ask me
its when a year has past, then the numbers will have meaning

but here's to adding to the fun/mess

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-one-ahead-of-ps4-on-amazon-s-most-wished-list/1100-6416772/
Xbox One ahead of PS4 on Amazon's "Most Wished" list
Meanwhile, the Wii U sits in the 37th position on retailer's video game list.

Doesn't really say much when the PS4 is in second place. Like how much more is the Xbox One wished than the PS4? 1 more person, 10, a hundred?

There's also 1 other XBO SKU on that list.. which is higher than the PS4 SKU's on the list.. but there are 2. (2 total SKU's for XBO, 3 for PS4)

So at least for that list, Amazon is breaking it out per SKU.

Amazon numbers are casually interesting.. but hard to really grasp anything too serious from them as rankings don't tell a great picture without numbers backing them.

What can be garnered: XBox One and PS4 are still in high demand.

it might sound crazy but I think also having that NFL fantasy FOOTBALL might tip the favor to MS. You know how many people in the US use fantasy football?
Its a league of its own and to see this on xbox one is pretty crazy.

Doubtful. Not many run their league through NFL.com and that is who the app is linked to. I think plenty will use it as a supplement to their leagues, but not for their leagues. Don't forget a whole league would have to move not just one player, and many are set with what they are using and have no desire to change. Now if they open it up to other sites that offer fantasy leagues, you very well might be correct. I have my doubts that the NFL would be pleased with that after they cut that deal with MS. We shall see.
