Well, the folks over at NeoGAF are talking about it.. we might as well talk about it here.
I was stunned by AC:Unity when it came out and I was playing it at 1440p on MAX graphics. I hailed it the de facto next-gen graphics standard. The artwork and lighting are simply stunning to behold. However, I recently picked up Ryse for the PC and was wow'd a second time. This time though, everything looked consistent along with almost every graphics trick in the book whereas AC:unity had some clear distractions (NPC popins, not really detailed in-game character models, no SSR, not enough good looking foliage, and subpar AA techniques). After considering those, I have to give it to Ryse even though it's not open world like AC:Unity. Unity gets a very close second.
Honorable mentions:
Watch Dogs (very stellar destruction, day/night cycle, SSR and excellent FX)
Lords of the Fallen (incredible volume lighting system)
Alien:Isoloation (best use of real-time GI and atmosphere is amazing)
