What game wins 'Best Graphics of 2014'?

Higher resolutions and frame rate don't necessary equate to more impressive rendering techniques.

That said, I don't disagree with you... There are certainly "several" PC titles which best console titles, but Ryse on X1 holds up to the best of the best... And not many PC games beat it.

I'm sorry. I should have left out Ryse on X1 because I agree.. there aren't many differences between the PC version and the X1 version. Crytek did an amazing job with the X1 as they would be the company to extract out every ounce of power from it.

Ryse on PC >

I've played it on both platforms, can't say I was wow'd by it on X1 as I was on PC.

Oh okay. LOL.
I will say that Drive Club nails the lighting.

Ryse Xbx 1 still has some of the most impressive character models I've seen on console.
Infamous SS also deserves a nod IMHO. The graphics in that game look flat out amazing for console.

I bought ISS with the hopes of being blown away, but I was a bit disappointed. By contrast, I picked up Watch Dogs on sale the other day from Steam and while it is the PC version, it clearly surpasses ISS by a large margin in graphical features. I never bought the PS4 version of WD but I would find it hard to believe that the differences between it and the PC version are so vast as to not stand up to ISS.

Very interesting. Can you elaborate more? Eurogamer Digital Foundry says they are pretty similar in quality and basically the X1 version has all the CryEngine goodness that the PC version has.

WD on consoles was a turd and it isn't even in the same room as SS on PS4.

Hmm.. very interesting. That would mean a LOT of features missing from the PC version then.

2560x1440 > 1600x900 makes all the difference, you miss alot of detail in that low res. If you don't believe me see it running at that res maxed out in person. Especially if you are playing X1 on a large screen.

I have the PC version. I can downres it to 900p and see it on my 4k TV here in the office. I'll get back to you in a few.

Also, I'm headed out to buy Driveclub on PS4. I want to see the game in motion. Will probably put up a graphics analysis on my webpage after I'm done playing with it.

Isn't Driveclub PSN plus only? No disc ver.

I'm not sure the free version is out is it? Yes there is a disc version, I owned that one.

The lighting also is flat as hell on console.

Well eurogamer seemed to be impressed compared to the PC version and many others like myself are too, it won best graphics awards as well. Its the only game I have on console I actually look at for per visuals alone. In no way is it the PC version, but a lot closer than I imagined.

The game isn't hard to run at max settings at 1920x1080 at 30fps on PC at all. So the X1 running it sub 30fps and 1600x900 at in what in the PC settings would be called "normal" quality isn't surprising at all. The game wasn't designed with PC in mind therefore when ported to the PC they used mostly the assets they created for X1. It's a console port to PC with options to lower quality, change resolution, and frame rate. That's it.

Pretty good for possibly the best looking PC game I've ever seen then.

Eurogamer is a joke. GTAV looks better on PS4/Xbox One than WD does.

I just picked up DriveClub at the local Gamestop. I'm so glad I only paid $20.00 for it as this game is completely underwhelming graphically. I'm going to put up a full graphics analysis on my webpage. At this point, TLOU:Remastered and Infamous on PS4 is more impressive to me. I'll post a link to my tech analysis once I write it.

This thread went downhill quickly.

I will say Alien Isolation. The game and its creators accomplished what they set out to do. The visuals along with the audio really set an amazing atmosphere. While the game may not be the mosts"technically" impressive, its graphics serve a much larger purpose than simply being pretty to look at.
Definitely wins best atmosphere of 2014.

Even 1920x1080>1600x900 is a large difference.
900p looks like a softer or blurrier 1080p that is missing a tad of details.

looks pretty, but appears to be lacking a massive amount of water spray from the cars in front, I'd assume the tyres on these cars would displace far more water than an ordinary tyre could manage and would leave tracks on the road wear the water had been.

Got any non rain gifs that impressive? FH2 looks insane, almost real during rain but the rest of the game is only above average without rain effect masking the game.

FH2 looks like a poor mans DriveClub. It's the better game no doubt, but it's clearly inferior on the visual front.

That's my point, it doesn't even look that great compared to DC, but when its raining the game looks almost real at times. Dat rain advantage masking those gamey visuals. There are even GT5 and PGR4 gifs that look real in the rain.

FH2 is also open world.
