Why You Shouldn’t Buy Rise of the Tomb Raider (and Other PC Games) from the Windows Store

Bit harsh to say the game is half assed.
You have to remember Crystal Dynamics did the actual porting. All Microsoft had to do was not botch the delivery service the game was provided on.

This is the down side of Microsoft's "One Platform" vision.

All platforms are different. They have to figure out what works on each. I think they'll figure it out.

As a long time MS watcher I just wanted to add my 2 cents.

All of this was not supposed to happen. For one thing, Threshold 2 (November update for Windows 10) was supposed to bring more changes to Windows 10 overall, but the development was stalled as Microsoft's Windows division was not yet used to adding features fast. This got a lot better after they remade all tools between November to January and the next milestone for Windows 10 (Redstone 1) is seeing rapid progress, but between Threshold 2 and Redstone 1 there are no ways to drastically improve this.

I think this was one of the reasons why Fable Legends and Gears UE PC kept being delayed. The games themselves were ready, sort of. Fable Legends in particular is already quite a beefy game. But Windows Store was not ready to accommodate big sized triple-A titles. So they were waiting, and waiting until the next milestone happened and things got better... And then it seems like Xbox team made this huge decision to change the strategy and go full PC as soon as possible, which resulted in QB coming out for PC and other titles being considered as well. Infrastructure may not be finished yet, but with all the games coming out for Windows Store at once maybe they can get away with that and possibly get better with Redstone 1 and 2 - At least, that's what I think happened.

Overall, it will get better. Those who bring GFWL to this debate have zero idea. Windows Store suffers from none of those GFWL bugs that prevented users from playing the game. You don't spend millions of hours logging into your Xbox account, nor scour through bunch of needless processes to buy DLC's and stuffs, nor stumble on a strange bug that does not let the game run. If anything the whole thing goes without a hitch, so that's already a huge improvement. Microsoft has been actively changing and improving stuffs since Windows 10 came out, and there is no reason why PC gaming would be an exception.
