The spaces between realities!
W10 is releasing tonight on computers around the world. Some people have already started with their computers installing files prior to the official launch on 7/29/15.

In addition to a bevy of improvements and notable gaming improvements with Dx12, Windows 10 hopes to be the best and most well received OS from Microsoft since Windows XP.

If you didn't already know Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for Windows 7, 8, & 8.1 users should they choose to upgrade within the first year.

What say you? Are you excited yet?

I'll be upgrading, whenever the roll out hits me.

Yeah likewise.
Honestly I don't see why anyone would not upgrade. Hell it is free for the first year. They are doing upgrades in waves so could be some time later in the week before it actually starts downloading.

It's free so I'll upgrade but I don't really care. After windows 8 I moved to Mac and never looked back.

I'm going to update 1 of my machines tomorrow. I will experiement with it until I upgrade all of them.

I've been on Windows 10 since November of last year, but I'm VERY excited for the release. I can't wait to hear impressions/get feedback. I'm also excited to see the data roll in, and get a sense of how things on the products I work on go.

If anyone here has any questions or comments, I'm happy to assist. Microsoft is actually encouraging employees to help non-profits upgrade to Windows 10 for free by giving the employees a day-off to contribute to such things. It's pretty cool. I'm a big believer in World Vision, and I get to help them upgrade to Windows 10 while MS pays me to do so. Pretty sweet. Win/win/win..dows ;-)

I ran the Technical Preview a few months ago and liked what I saw. It seemed to be plug-n-play for my Radeon card which was nice.

My machine has been running Linux, but I reinstalled and activated Windows 7 to create a Dual Boot and be prepped to get Windows 10. Linux is a cool alternative, but I want to try this to get access to more games.

Worried about stability with games I play, but whatever. I'm going to convert when it rolls out for me.

I will be updating. Files were installed last night because anti-malware flagged it as a trojan lol.

When I have time, I'll do a fresh install.

A little nervous about it more than anything. I have a pretty old computer and I'm running Windows 7 on it still. Basically use the computer solely for paying bills and for downloading media which I stream to my 360 and Xbox One. Hoping that when I do upgrade the transition is smooth and it won't take me too long to get the system set up to stream media. I don't really need Windows 10 so I might just lay back and do it in a few months. The video game streaming won't be out of a few months anyways and I'm not 100% sure my system will handle that anyways.

If the media blurb is to be believed, anything you have that runs on windows 7 should run without issue on 10. Windows 10 is basically Microsofts attempt to move it from an OS to a platform as a service.

We'll see, any time I've upgraded operating systems in the past it was always a long drawn out process to get everything working right again. Anyone do the install and try to stream to an Xbox 360 or One yet?

Yeah. I agree. The blurb only always tells you how awesome it is. The reality is usually something different.
I think revit installed it and streamed some games over it. Said it was pretty cool from what I remember.

I have it, and it is perfect. I know that is a pretty strong word, but I haven't had any major issues yet. Nothing has crashed, nothing has failed to installed. All my programs are working flawlessly. All my games seem to be working flawlessly.

The only issue I have had is with the Xbox App. Sometimes it freezes when trying to look at profiles or achievements.

Please note that I use Windows in a very casual way.

I don't have windows at home so no upgrading. But one of my computers at work is downloading the update right now. It has Windows 7 currently. I have never used Windows 8, so this will probably be REALLY new to me at work.

I said why not and threw it on my laptop with just doing the upgrade. Mind you, I do nothing but basic stuff. I hated Win 8 so much.

Even with the upgrade, things went fine. The new interface seems really good. They took the good things from 8 and removed the bad ones.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't do it on a machine you care about, but that family laptop that you'd format in a moment anyway is fine.

The new browser seems pretty good. They copied a lot from Chrome.

Everything has been intuitive, unlike 8.

I checked of the reserve for Win 10, but I haven't had Windows 7 running to get it yet. I guess I was holding off in case there were reports of bugs with such a massive upgrade.

So MS edge isn't up to standard with chrome, it's slower and I can't scroll down on my laptop using the scroll bar which is actually pretty annoying so I will be using chrome until it's fixed, other then that pretty cool with my short time, nice subtle changes.

I've worked at MS for over 15 years, and I've endured many painful updates and updating procedures.

Migrating/updating to Windows 10 from Windows 7 or 8 is easily the least painful update we've ever done. While there are obviously still some launch-bug-level issues (mostly sev3's, corner cases, etc.) - you really shouldn't have too much trouble with it.

Good feedback... did you notice the ellipsis in the upper RIGHT corner? If you click on that, you'll also see "Send feedback".

If you want stuff to get fixed, or if something isn't working as you'd expect it to - you can easily provide feedback.

There's also a "Windows Feedback" application you can use to give all your feedback (suggestions, bugs, etc.) - and you can also see what other people are suggesting, so you can increment other people's issues/suggestions. The more people who increment bugs/suggestions, the faster they'll get looked at.

I'm particularly interested in your experience, then. I'd love to know what you think of it compared to Windows 7. As the reviews state, we really tried to ensure that Windows 10 refined what Windows 7 did right, while also making an OS that truly could run across a multitude of devices, integrate touch as well as Windows 8 (but without alienating desktop users), etc... so 'd love to know from you personally if you think we hit the mark on that.

Ah, it's an exciting day!

I'm worried I'm not activated. I have one of those silly product keys embedded in the hardware rather than a sticker on the system (ugh). I have no way of knowing what my key is (it is a common problem now on laptops). Servers might just be getting slammed or something.

For those that have it, and have played games...is performance in game the same or better?

My update failed with an error. Brilliant. It was at 100% then errors when it finished.
