Xbox Live subs..

Netflix hits 200 million subscribers, jacks the price up $1 per month, boom $200 million in profit overnight.

MS was like "hold my beer"

really dumb to try and pull this right now.

I'm aware that they backed off, but all the teenagers I work with were asking me how I felt about my Xbox Live subscription cost doubling and I'm like "huh?"

Really stupid move on the PR front.
Now they can forget upping the price for a while.

They should of up it for $1 or hold on to it till they make enough on gamepass to kill off gold.

Yeah the whole thing was just strange....like folks wouldn't realize they were doing it to just push people over to GPU with it being a much better value proposition ($120/yr vs $180). I saw through it the moment I saw the news...kind of didn't phase me so much as I have had GPU for a while now but yeah huge d-bag move by MS here. I'm glad they quickly realized the negative PR and also finally pulled the Gold required for F2P games as well. I thought they would have removed that a while ago as it's been at the top of the criticism heap for a while (them being the only console that required sub for F2P).

At any rate, it was a bad move and a quick recovery by MS. Fact is, without bad PR, most companies would try to get away with anything they possibly could and only the public backlash rights the wrong. This has been probably the best thing about social media....the lightning fast spread of public shaming. Should never have happened and MS may feel some sting from this....just when you thought they had gained most of the goodwill back that they lost at XBO launch and studio closures, they go and c*** it up again....lol.
Yup damage is done and many still don't know they reversed it :really:

Most of the folks still pissing are just fanboys tbh...much like the tribal nature of some things these days, they claim victim-hood and how they were harmed by this announcement or that they'll never trust said party and ignore reality/the retraction (or their own sides foibles). Companies do stupid sh*t all of the time and if they had ignored the fanbase/bad PR generated from the fanbase reaction, then yeah, keep railing on them. Fact is, they made the change based on the feedback/bad PR VERY quickly and also instituted a long standing request that F2P games do not require paid sub to play online. We can talk in circles all day about it but in the end, the gamers won again and I'm hoping MS will just drop gold all together at some point soon for another gamer win. MS need to be much more aggressive in this space outside of studio acquisitions and flat out, they need to avoid situations like this at all costs moving forward.

Then they're f***ing morons.

I didn't know they tried to do this in the first place.

Like I say, I work with a bunch of teenagers who are all on Playstation, I get into work and they're going "wow are you pissed your Xbox Live Gold is doubling in price?"

Now before I went to work, I was on the can and Larry Hyrrb or whatever was tweeting about how XBL was staying at the same price and I was like "ok...?"

I had to look into it and tell them that they went back on it. Now think of all the kids out there who don't have the old man Xbox fan tell them that? You think these kids follow Larry?

The price hike was probably big news (and bad news) and the retraction was probably only seen by a small percentage of people who heard about the price hike.

aka REALLY bad and stupid PR for Xbox.

It seems like it was a bigger deal to Sony fans anyway. Lol

Dumb move. But I don't think it affected anything.

Huh?
If affected Gold only fans which is by far what the majority of Xbox players are.(why they tried it)
You can luv Xbox and not care for GP. This is how most feel.

I talking about the negative PR. Not the fact if they would actually did it.
