Xbox Live subs..

WeDidIt.gif

but seriously, did they think by announcing it on a Friday that it’d fade away over the weekend and people just accept it come Monday with ItIsWhatItIs gifs?

And people complained then.

None of the apps, especially ones that require a sub should have been behind Gold
Both of these things are kinda like parallels of WTF for the last 2 gens. I think they really need more consistent messaging. I have to be critical when I think they deserve it. They like to brag about it when they think they are being so pro-comsumer, but then miss the obvious things that just seem petty. I can never tell if it's greed or negligence.

Both but it's unfair to really call it greed, they are in this business to make money as are Sony and Nintendo it's just what businesses do. They could have just done what Sony did and raised 1st party game prices, it'll bring in a little more from people who don't want game pass and could also make game pass look more appealing for people who are on the fence. At some point gold, GP or game prices are going to have to go up though it's just a matter of time, games aren't getting cheaper to make.

Yeah, I guess the word petty would be more appropriate than greed. I don't know what the metrics are, but I would think it would be possible to see those FTP games as a sort of gateway drug to other paid experiences (sorry, probably bad terminology there). It's this kind of lack of long-term thinking that makes me think more of the negligence angle.

I'm of two minds. The initial decision is the dumbest one in over 7 years from the division. The 180 was impressively fast for a large corporation. It usually takes time for those things to go into effect.

In the end, this is where I remind everyone corporations aren't people. They're machines with a lot of people pushing buttons at the same time. Consumers help steer them.

It was a stupid move. More stupid then their Xbox One reveal. But reversing course is the right move. There are so many things they have done right, which includes their games. I would have still stuck with MS because they are making the games we want. I just would have done it on PC instead.

Now I can go back to appreciating my Xbox Series X purchase.

I plan on upgrading to a newer pc, it was just easier and the opportunity was there to get XSX. Plus, I like the brand.

There's so something to sitting in a comfy chair, turning on your nice TV and hopping right into a game.

This is true. He is a face. But the real person here is Microsoft. They are a $1.7 trillion company for a reason. Same with Google, Amazon, and others. They are here for the $$, not to be a charity.
No, MS is a company. A company is run by people. Xbox is run by Phil. He isn't a face,he is the face...and two faced at that.

like it was charity before and didn't earn a billion+ annually.

exactly the same as I played Civ 6 on my PC this morning then.

We don’t know what happened here with this. It smacks of some power play behind the scenes in MS. The fact it got turned around so fast speaks volumes (from both player feedback and corporate response). As does the fact that it didn’t come from Phil and he didn’t try to defend it either. I think something went on here at a senior level in MS, possibly something like Nadella pushing it out, or being advised to without Phils involvement. The whole the way thing was announced and rolled back was nothing like we’ve since the Xbox one fiasco.

that is what I was saying unless there was something else.
Phil got to know this was going to backfire.

Someone in the finance department must have gotten some pull to get this out. Phil must have seen Twitter and was like "you got to be kidding me".
That being said, I will keep a mind full open because this is a power company and they see only money.

If they really want to phase out gold, why not do a scaled back version of gamepass as xbl gold. Obviously not everyone wants to be paying more to play online if they don't want gamepass.

Just have select games from library and rotate them round every month to give people a taste. And then maybe after a year raise price by a few bucks and start adding higher profile games slowly.

I dunno just rambling, it seems paid online is here to stay it makes too much money for either company to exclude.

Social media is great for not letting companies get away with greedy stuff ..
Also, social media is hell spawn on earth in regards to s***ty people cancelling stuff because they feel entitled to getting everything they want.
I blame the parents that curled their younglings to grow up like this.

Sorry but what MS was attempting was way worse.
Also $70 games will be on Xbox as well.
We can thank Take 2 for starting this trend.
Yep they're going to have to do something for all these acquisitions and rising development costs on those AAA games.
Game development is not getting cheaper.

Don’t forget, once Bethesda is under their wing they’ll probably hire a studio size QA department for elder scrolls/fallout, hopefully

Phil is head of xbox, it is his responsability.

Increasing prices isn't the answer. At some point this will send gaming on a downward trend.
