Does the X1 automatically save before this command does its thing? I can see a lot of siblings ready to tear in to eachother over that. Also, what about the kiosk? The next "OMG X1 is fail" will be potential customers playing at BestBuy only to be trolled by somebody yelling "Xbox Off".

Kisoks will have it turned off.

and at home it has voice recognition. So I assume only the person actually playing and signed in can issue the command.

It goes into a low power state when off mate, so when you say "Xbox On" the next day, whatever you were doing before it saved and you can get right back into whatever you were doing.

ahhh...Thats interesting, so can you turn off certain commands?

If I remember correctly, the Kinect recognizes who you are as soon as you say "Xbox On" and logs you into your profile automatically so whatever that player was doing last, he can continue from that point. I'm not really sure you would have to turn off commands should that be the case A.R.

Flynn posted in another thread yesterday that said the Kinect recognizes who has the controller and that that person is "active". I'm guessing only that person can turn it off.

They said before that there is a long delay between "XBOX Off" and the shut down so the person can cancel it in the case it picks up on someone else saying it by accident

I have never read of MS doing actual voice recognition and ignoring commands from anyone but the logged in user. Where did you hear/read that @menace-uk-?

But I don't see why this is some bigger issue than... that same sibling getting up and turning off your console the old fashioned way.

Which I've never known to be some major issue.. I had one friend who'd occasionally rage quit playing sports games and whatnot but it didn't really matter if he turned off the system as I was playing against him.

It uses facial recognition for that.

They might be doing voice location to only respond to commands from where the logged in user is sitting.. but I don't think they are actually doing voice recognition of every spoken word. That would be ridiculously computationally expensive.

easier to troll?

people can do it from outside the room or across the room.. it will be abused if it does work like how people expect (no matter who says it, it closes).. ofcourse i am sure there is like a confirmation needed

Didnt Flynn say that in a sense it can determine who is speaking and where that voice is coming from? In a way, it actually IS doing voice recognition of every spoken word. At least in theory....

Get better friends?

Honestly this conversation blows my mind. Why would you game with people who would do that in the first place?

I wouldn't say "Xbox Off" while my friend was gaming because I'm not a complete loser.. and either would my friends.. because they aren't complete losers. When I was a kid I wouldn't have done it to my siblings for the same reason.

So he's a loser troll but he's too lazy to get up and turn off your console?

I just don't get it.. willing to turn off a console while someone is gaming.. but only if it's through voice recognition?

Try violence. Seriously.. anyone who would do that deserves to get punched in the mouth.

he will do it because he always makes fun of kinect and he wants to show how stupid it is lol

and even if he may not do it... as i said there will be people who will do it. turning it off from distance with voice is alot better "troll" then going over and closing, and thats easily stoppable after the 1st time where as you can stop a voice from going to the xbox :|

Not entirely sure where. I think it was Engadget or Gizmondo a while back where they had a video of MS showing off Kinect and all the new depth stuff . They said that it can specifically recognize your voice.

Probably the location stuff.

Not important as long as it can do it. But from a technical perspective there is no way it's actually analyzing your voice to do it.

Actually don't really like that idea personally.. my girlfriend and I watch stuff together on Xbox One, if it only let's one of us say "Xbox Pause," the person who "signed in" that would suck and represent a feature getting worse.

Doesn't bother me either way. I won't even take kinect out the box.

As for your GF...... Xbox one supports multiple accounts at the same time , right ? she could create one and it would sign both you in when you sit down to watch a movie. Pausing crisis averted.

Doesn't the command "xbox off" just bring up a dialog like the guide does now? Ya know, turn off console, turn off controller, etc...

Plus, pretty sure I read as well that you can disable console commands like that.

I've read this somewhere too, it only recognises your voice for these commands, maybe it's a config you can choose to set-up?

Ah.. that's right. I've read that several times and didn't even understand it's use. Perhaps that solves the issue.

Of course.. it also means.. "Xbox Off" crisis not averted, lol.

LOL....I'm sure you're both adult enough to handle such a feature. How ever, being trolled via "Xbox off" is a hell of a lot better than having it turned completely off like it is now.

wasn't it somebody from insomniac that said people yelling xbox off via intercoms or something was getting old lol.

I could easily see being in a college dorm and your friends/roommates just randomly yell Xbox Off from time to time. To think that this wouldn't happen and that if it does happen you need better friends is absurd thinking.

Even with that said, I HIGHLY doubt this will be an issue.

To think that this wouldn't happen and that if it does happen you need better friends is absurd thinking..

Maybe it's a generational difference or just a difference with my social circle. If you annoyed your friends you'd get your ass beat when I was "college dorm" aged.

But I still stand behind my get better friends comment, lol.

@menace-uk- : LOL, I just meant for the thread in general. The voice detect feature fails to stop you panty wastes from having to cry to your Mommy's when your lame friend yells Xbox off if he has been recognized by the Xbox.

Well the last part is still the case
