Xbox Rumors and Speculation

Dying Light 2?

Damn, Microsoft getting most of the big 3rd party games I want to play.... They won me back

I'll wait for official news to believe it, DL2 was my most anticipated for a while but the long time between news and troubled development has me pretty worried.

The Turn 10 stuff is a bit odd. Especially since they have their own big game to try to release soon. I've heard Spencer has a good relationship with Miyazaki but that FromSoftware wanted to stay 3rd party. Would be a massive get if true but this seems like a longshot. Nobody else has cohobated it. Miyazaki's fanbase is as loyal as they come and will buy whatever hardware they need to play his stuff so if they do anything exclusive for anybody, it's HUGE!

I think there's legit smoke around the Techland stuff. Microsoft has been in Poland the past two years. They've been rumored to be helping Techland get it's project over the hump. They had the marketing deal with them already. It's a no-brainer region to expand development. The operating cost for a big studio is much lower over there than UK or US. There's a lot of talent to recruit and a mass exodus from CDPR to pull from (I've heard CDPR is losing up to 50% of their talent). Techland is private, has good tech and a strong IP. Techland's biggest issue is management. It's been public they've had a toxic work environment. Microsoft would likely need to step in and change leadership off the jump. That's not something they've done with any purchases under Nadella so that's why I think it's more likely a partnership than a purchase. Techland has a fantasy game also in development. Maybe Microsoft locked that up and will put Dying Light on Game Pass Day 1. Or maybe the owners of Techland will proactively overhaul leadership themselves in order to capitalize on the market bubble and sell.

Also people often forget FromSoftware isn't independently owned

But its so made up that it got deleted from reddit so I think we can ignore that one

Usually when they say assisted by a MS game dev team it ends up being more a support line for dev tools and/or tech like cloud compute. Which makes more sense here given the seeming stark differences between the games.

Apparently Konami has said they are working with a Japanese publisher on this, so I wonder what this one is?

There seems to be a lot speculation/rumoring that there could be two Silent Hill games in development and they could be doing one of them with Sony Japan the other.

I feel like all those "rumors" are publicly known aside from release date (which doesn't seem realistic) and "patented tech". Compulsion only recently started staffing up for full production and just moved into a new location to accommodate. They previously were a small team who spent time after WHF launched supporting the game with more content. I can't see it launching before 2023 at the earliest. Early 2022 is incredibly unrealistic. "Patented tech" is vague as hell and all Microsoft studios are working together and sharing new proprietary tech. So my belief is this person took public info and combined it with their own prediction to get famous. I'm going to call fake.

I'd love to see a new Conkers in the mold of Stick of Truth (also made by Obsidian). Most interesting aspects of Conkers back in the day wasn't it's platforming elements. Might actually make a fun RPG. That said, who would do it? The have the Grounded team busy for the foreseeable future. Most hands are on Avowed. Josh Sawyer has already gone on record about a small project and Conkers would not be in his wheelhouse. Cain and Boyarski will likely flip over to pre-prod for Outer Worlds 2 now that their DLC support is done for OW1. In my mind, they would be the only hope of this rumor being true. Would they want a break from the OW to do something like this? I'd love it but don't see it. Outer Worlds has too much potential as a new pillar IP and I don't see Cain and Boyarski bouncing from the IP they created to someone else's.

I wish and it needs to be better than Otagi this time.

I want RARE to do something with this franchise...
I wonder if they/MS own the rights?

Avalanche worked with ID on Rage 2. I think there is a possibility here that this is one of the 2nd party projects in Microsoft's wheel house. Rage 2 wasn't that great but it had a solid technical foundation. Really generic story, art and game design. Those aren't little things but they are things that can be addressed with a few new hires.

Its funny how everyone in down on Rage 2. I had more fun with it than Rage 1.

Yeah not a terrible game. Just don't think it really innovated in any particular ways or did anything special. I do believe this combo of ID and Avalanche could net much better results in the future. Looking at Killzone to Horizon ZD, it just takes some better creative people to support a technically competent studio and go from mediocre to good.
