I'll wait for official news to believe it, DL2 was my most anticipated for a while but the long time between news and troubled development has me pretty worried.
Also people often forget FromSoftware isn't independently ownedThe Turn 10 stuff is a bit odd. Especially since they have their own big game to try to release soon. I've heard Spencer has a good relationship with Miyazaki but that FromSoftware wanted to stay 3rd party. Would be a massive get if true but this seems like a longshot. Nobody else has cohobated it. Miyazaki's fanbase is as loyal as they come and will buy whatever hardware they need to play his stuff so if they do anything exclusive for anybody, it's HUGE!
Usually when they say assisted by a MS game dev team it ends up being more a support line for dev tools and/or tech like cloud compute. Which makes more sense here given the seeming stark differences between the games. The Turn 10 stuff is a bit odd. Especially since they have their own big game to try to release soon. I think there's legit smoke around the Techland stuff. Microsoft has been in Poland the past two years. They've been rumored to be helping Techland get it's project over the hump. They had the marketing deal with them already. It's a no-brainer region to expand development. The operating cost for a big studio is much lower over there than UK or US. There's a lot of talent to recruit and a mass exodus from CDPR to pull from (I've heard CDPR is losing up to 50% of their talent). Techland is private, has good tech and a strong IP. Techland's biggest issue is management. It's been public they've had a toxic work environment. Microsoft would likely need to step in and change leadership off the jump. That's not something they've done with any purchases under Nadella so that's why I think it's more likely a partnership than a purchase. Techland has a fantasy game also in development. Maybe Microsoft locked that up and will put Dying Light on Game Pass Day 1. Or maybe the owners of Techland will proactively overhaul leadership themselves in order to capitalize on the market bubble and sell.
Apparently Konami has said they are working with a Japanese publisher on this, so I wonder what this one is?

Games games games!!!!
Avalanche worked with ID on Rage 2. I think there is a possibility here that this is one of the 2nd party projects in Microsoft's wheel house. Rage 2 wasn't that great but it had a solid technical foundation. Really generic story, art and game design. Those aren't little things but they are things that can be addressed with a few new hires.
Yeah not a terrible game. Just don't think it really innovated in any particular ways or did anything special. I do believe this combo of ID and Avalanche could net much better results in the future. Looking at Killzone to Horizon ZD, it just takes some better creative people to support a technically competent studio and go from mediocre to good. Its funny how everyone in down on Rage 2. I had more fun with it than Rage 1.
I agree. Changing now.Can we just call this thread Xbox Rumors at this point? This thread title is dumb now lol
