DirectX 12 is now the default renderer for Xbox One, bringing both performance and feature enhancements to platform support in the engine. In addition, you can now develop HTML5 games using WebAssembly and WebGL 2, and this new path will continue to improve in UE4.
New: Xbox One Renders with DirectX 12

DirectX 12 is now the default renderer for Xbox One! We've made a number of stability and performance improvements in DirectX 12. This allowed us to enable it as the default RHI bringing CPU and GPU performance improvements for titles developed for Xbox One.

More proof that my original vision for Xbox One is coming true. The power of the cloud and DirectX 12 will slay all comers. Microsoft is the best in the world at what they do. It's only a matter of time before people start realizing it.

You realize DX12 has done virtually nothing, right? All those claims of yesteryear and it turns out DX12 games often run worse..just like those other ones did.

And power of cloud will remain a nich untill MS can convince gamers that. mandatory online connection is good...good luck with. Also doesn't help that MS aren't really showing it off.

Chat overlay is available for non preview members. Not sure how long it's been up but tried it today. Love they allow you to customize it so it doesn't get in the way of your games. Makes a big difference in larger parties.

Xbox Live features and the UI are nearly perfect now. Along with the Elite controller, Scorpio, and Mixer, it's easily the best platform for multiplayer games going forward.

Games built with DX12 in mind run better than non DX12 games on Xbox. Some of the key mods in Scorpio were built around DX12 and won't be leveraged without it. The Digital Foundry articles regarding Scorpio indicated that it's important for developers to use DX12 otherwise the CPU will be a bottleneck.

"Cloud" will be considered niche until Sony says otherwise. Doesn't mean many Xbox gamers won't get a head start on the masses and start enjoying it while it's in niche phase. Some of my best gaming moments were on Xbox Live when it launched and was still a niche feature. It's fun to experience cutting edge. Someday Crackdown fully destructible physics will be standard, running off 3rd party servers on all platforms and a boring over-used gameplay feature. This year it won't be. Not sure why it should matter to the enthusiast gamers in this forum that it's niche.

Do they really. Prove it...and do it with real world scenarios, not a dev said this or that. What games show this better performance? Considering DX12 was supposed to free up so many resources, there really hasn't been a noticeable impact on any platform.

Sony doesn't really matter, if 3rd parties want it then Sony will have to give it...or die slowly. But MS isn't showcasing or giving any good reason to push for cloud powered games.

I agree it is nice to play with cool nich things, but that wasn't the. point being made or disagreed with.

Honsestly, MS seem more intent on making services nowadays anyway.

I'm not a dev. I can't prove it. Can only take what devs or DF says. No way to know, for example, what Quantum Break looks like if it wasn't using dx12.

Or Gears 4. I remember them talking about getting a performance boost.

I can see it now...

"And to help launch Project Scorpio, we are proud to introduce; Viva Pinata 3, launching day and date with the system!"

Gears of War 4 is a great example of a DirectX 12 game. As far as real world performance goes, Battlefield 1 as a great example. Runs at a higher resolution than Battlefield 4 and a much more stable frame rate as well for the xb1 version . Bf4 was using direct x 11 on xb1

It would look like quantum break.

Xbox was the platform that would benefit least from DX12 performance. So if I can proove DX12 has had little impact on a platform that should have seen the biggest impact, then it also proves it had little impact on Xbox.

I'm not playing ring a round the rosie with you. Devs say otherwise...especially when working around the CPU. Take it or leave it. Not sure what they have to gain to speak incorrectly.

But devs saying you will see huge increases that never materialise is fine. The fact that games like BF1 on PC run up to 20fps worse in DX12 compared to DX11 is fine.

But a dev said otherwise, so all else can be ignored.

There's a ton of different hardware configurations and compatibility issues in pc gaming which is one of the reasons I hate messing with it. Your comment doesn't negate what developers and DF have said about the impact on Xbox...especially Scorpio where it'll be key in balancing the system.

Definitely looks like AMD cards get a pretty good boost with direct X 12. Not so much with Nvidia . Looks like it Performs worse .

Less than two weeks and MS has their show. No leaks at all yet and I am very happy about that but at the same time I hope it's not an indication that MS won't have any new announcements.

Phil's comment about they don't want to show games too early anymore unless they can guarantee that people will have it in their hands soon has me a bit worried. Surely you can't do that for every single new game. But if it does mean that there won't be a lot of surprises. I kinda doubt that though.

If they follow that too seriously they will get clobbered with bad press.

Yeah and rightfully so. If Spencer meant it like how Scalebound and Crackdown were announced waaaaaay too early, then yes I agree with him. But if a particular studio has a nice gameplay demo or trailer ready and the game is releasing next year or hell 2019, please show it. E3 has always been like that and it generates excitement and a bit of hype too.

Spencer didn't fully went into details about it though, did he? I recall he did say during a podcast that they didn't have any new game announcements for 2017 but I don't think anyone expected that anyway. But new games for next year?

If its the IGN podcast you're referring to he said he felt good about this years lineup of Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2, Crackdown 3 "and a few other things we havent talked about yet"

Top of my head there Forza Motorsport 7, Minecraft Realms and Killer Instinct Season 4. I bet they announce Ori 2 as well...but it gets delayed to early next year like the last one.

I wonder how that works for 3rd party titles because if Phil is about that life style 3rd party will show at Sony stage i stead. Then what?

Yeah Forza 7 would fall under that. We all know it's coming but hasn't been officially announced yet. Kinda odd, because I remember FM6 and FH3 being announced before E3. Minecraft Realms? First time I'm hearing about that. I don't care one bit for Minecraft sadly though.

Have their been signs from Moon Studios that they will have something at E3 this year?

I think MS will only do this for first party games. I'm sure we'll see gameplay of Shadow of War and new AC game at Microsoft's show. But I hope they won't fully go through with it. People like to know and see what they can expect next year.

Minecraft Realms = Minecraft W10 edition which was mentioned by Jez. They just won't call it that on Scorpio.

Yes. Thomas Mahler of Moon said he was looking forward to seeing what MS was going to show....and winked like this ;-)

The power of the cloud will collide with the moon. Shaking the gaming industry to it's very core. It's going to be glorious.

Correct me if I'm wrong but a poster on NeoGAF called Matt, he's in the know about things going on at MS, Sony etc, isn't he?

In the Scorpio thread there he said this.

As for new MS IP, I am unhappy with MS's lack of commitment to a strong and deep first party lineup, and I have no reason now to think that is changing. If it does change however, I would be nothing but ecstatic.

Hopefully he just doesn't know it right now, because I sure am expecting MS to deliver on that promise that they would show the same kind of dedication to first party as they did for improving Xbox as a platform and service. Such a thing takes time I'm sure, but man......

They definitely did make Xbox One great again but sadly that can't be said about actual new games. I'd like to thing that in his first years Phil has been busy trying to improve their first party input but we all know several things got canned and studios closed.
