For what it's worth, a former dev who has Xbox developer friends at Microsoft has said that the next gen versions of Halo have some game design differences from the Xbox One versions. Part of why the budget for the game is so expensive. I'm a bit skeptical of what next gen differences there could be for a launch game that's spent most of it's 5 years on current gen....but keep this in mind going into the show. Maybe something was lost in translation and it's all graphics...but he believes there are actual game design differences. Might be the Xbox Series versions do have differences in physics, AI, NPC count, etc.

I don't care what spin he or anyone wants to spin.
Proof is in the videos above the game in the 2018 and 2019 videos is running on Xbox One/X.
That makes no sense. A first party dev creating or upgrading an engine are absolutely going to focus on next gen. Why on earth would you invest thosw resources to focus on an outdated and soon to be phased out hardware? Makes no sense.

Ofcourse we have only seen current gen footage. It is a cross gen game and they have yet to show first party next gen games. That doesn't mean the engine isn't nexst gen focused.

That is the problem right now, all we have are rumours. MS has taken too long and rumours are starting to be believed as fact. MS need a great and clear July event.

This is just a general PA:

Someone who works on a game saying that it is being built for the ground up obviously has intimate knowledge of that game. This person is hence not believed.

Yet. Someone working on another game on another console says anything similar...and they are believed.

Its really simple.

If I'm not involved in creating a game and I'm told by a developer/lead designer of said game that it will be a certain way I will believe it. Why? Because they are working on it and I'm not, and UNTIL I have it in my hands and am playing it that is all I have to go on.

Of course.....this is how I think.

That is all I'm saying.
So , just another day on the internet then.

Yes that's what I am saying the current footage is current gen.

What doesn't make sense is them saying the game is built for the next gen but works on the current.

Rumors are all we got to go by for another 2+ weeks. LOL

You can make sense of that. It means there are differences between the versions. Differences that could only be possible on the next iteration of hardware. That's not a hard line to back up actually.

Kind of hard to tell which you are talking about. Yoare saying the exact same tging for 2 different comments. You have you the engine claimed to be built for next gen, which maked perfect sense and the trailers and your comments do nothing to counter that with logic or reasoning.

Then you have Hedon's weird post about Halo being natively built fotr XSX. I say weird cause it is in and includes tge badge for "optimized for XSX." That makes less sense. If a game is natively built for XSX it shouldn't hold the badge that is reserved for current gen game upgrades, and if natively built games get the badge that it just muddies tge idea of what you are actually buying. Just sounded off to me.

It's not weird, at all. Hedon is correct.

Optimized for Series X doesn't necessarily mean it's a current gen game optimized for Next gen. That badge will be given to The Medium and other true next gen titles as well. It just means extra effort is being put into taking advantage of XSX power, fps, ray tracing etc.

According to Microsoft, certain games will be designed specifically to take advantage of the Xbox Series X’s impressive technical specs. These games will get a special badge that says “Optimized for Xbox Series X.” Games with this badge will be specially designed to perform better on Microsoft’s next-gen console. Microsoft’s announcement says that the badge will indicate games that have been “natively designed or fully rebuilt to take advantage of the Xbox Series X.”

Not saying he is incorrect. What I am saying is the optimized for XSX badge being put on XSX only games is dumb. Ofcourse it is optimized for the only console you can play it on. Same for any new Xbox exclusive game, the badge is redundant. Putting it on AC Valhalla or Dirt 5, makes sense.

AC Valhalla is neither natively built for or fully redisigned either.

Games featuring the Optimized for Xbox Series X badge can showcase anything from virtually eliminating load times via the Xbox Velocity Architecture, heightened visuals and hardware-accelerated DirectX raytracing powered by our custom, next generation GPU, to steadier and often higher framerates up to 120fps. Titles displaying the Optimized for Xbox Series X badge can include:
  • Brand new games built natively for the Xbox Series X such as Halo Infinite.
  • Previously released titles in which a developer has enhanced their title using the Xbox Series X development environment to dramatically leverage the power and features Xbox Series X has to offer, like Gears 5.

Increasing the framerate to 120fps is enough to get the badge?

Because the XSX is not the only console that those next gen exclusives will be playable on. All those Xbox exclusive next gen titles will also be available on the Series S.

AC Valhalla is neither natively built for or fully redisigned either.

Yeah, and they are giving that game a badge too.

Which makes no difference. They are still exclusives and that inherantly implies it takes advantage of the hardware the game releases on. Basically every single game is going to have the badge.

If it runs on current gen then it's made for current gen.
It's been running on current gen a couple years now.
Optimized for XSX sounds like what it says.

I think the unknown variable here is the Slipspace engine:

Halo Infinite: The New Slipspace Engine Is Groundbreaking

For the latest addition in the Halo franchise, developer 343 Industries has created a brand new engine from the ground up. The studio had nothing but praise for the new engine. The Slipspace engine is allowing the studio to do things that were impossible regarding the development of Halo Infinite.

The director of the Halo franchise, Frank O’Connor stated in a video that the Slipspace engine was created for “next-generation” game development while being easier to work with. Frank said:

We had to create an engine that was more powerful for next-generation development, but also more nimble, so the creatives and engineers are able to work more easily and iterate faster.
He added:

This technical groundwork is vital to build a platform for the future of Halo
The engineering director, David Berger said that the new Slipspace engine allows the team to do things that previously seemed impossible. He said:

You have to make tools that allow you to make new features that allow you to make features that weren’t thought about [before]. You’ve gotta give the content-creators room to ideate outside of that
In 2018, we heard that the Slipspace engine might still be in development. The chances of this new engine seeing the light of day seemed low. Then last year, 343 Industries attributed the delay of Halo Infinite to them switching engines. The engine that they were switching over to was the Slipspace engine. The previous engine seemed to be running into obstacles when designing Halo 5.

And from another article:

“The Halo Infinite Slipspace Engine is designed purely for Infinite and its needs. The technology is not only aiming to bring back the classic Halo gameplay with the best quality visuals possible, but also “convey moving emotional performances with truly organic, believable fidelity” for a AAA cinematic look.”

How about this Rollins:

According to an engine architect at the Halo development studio, the Halo Infinite Slipspace Engine is “the most cutting edge AAA engine on the planet.” The bold claim comes from 343 principal software engineer Daniele Giannetti who speaks nothing but praise about the upcoming shooter's impressive technology.

The only reason why they would feel the need to assure consumers that a next gen exclusive takes advantage of the Xbox Series X hardware is if they are worried that people might think that it won't because of the Series S.

I'd be more worried about people thinking the other way round. The XSX is tge next gen console. XSS is a low budget sku. Like you said before, what if it gets bad ports.

He says "best visuals possible" but we have seen rumours of infinite being 120FPS. Be interedting to see who is liein..i mean wrong. Although, both could be right. Maybe it has aa visual or performance mode for tge campaign.

Kinda like Dirt 5?

It seems MS use a something called Game Core that supposedly makes it easier for devs to port there games across multiple SKU’s. Sounds like it’s pretty much there but still a few bugs to be ironed out before launch.
