Xbox VR Won't Be At E3. Not Releasing This Year

MS will DEFINITELY show games on Sunday, and no VR.... Hence the "no VR for Scorpio at E3" and the "we are first focusing on WinMR for PC", from Alex Kipman.

They will also DEFINITELY SHOW VR on Monday, but probably during the PC show... Hence the "wait for E3" by Alex Kipman during the WinMR unveiling, which showed very little.

Thanks Alex Kipman!

Maybe becaus MS keep saying Scorpio will deliver hight quality VR experiences

Not really. Every piece I have read, when asked, they've stated they like tech, that it has potential, but PC is the right platform to test and curate its content right now.
They have said both. They said the high quality VR thing at E3 last year. They have also took that statement from the Scorpio website. They have clearly also said they were waiting for 2018 for Mixed Reality on Scorpio, so that's why they took that statement out, for now.

They also said they would have 8GB of RAM for games in Scorpio a month ago, and now it's 9. Things change.

I love that they freed up some RAM, but what are you saying, exactly? They said pretty recently that they are still working on VR/MR for Scorpio. The only thing they have changed for VR is taking away some of the messaging, leaving that for next year.

They are clearly letting the PC community take care of getting WinMR where it needs to be. This is what they really should have done with Kinect, imo.

I was just saying, if they said last year that they will show VR at the Xbox show at E3 this year, they could always change their mind and NOT show it during the Xbox briefing, because things change.

If people like VR, that's cool. If people want to see VR at the Xbox briefing, that's cool. I am just saying that I personally don't want them to waste their time on it. They probably will, but meh, oh well.

of cooarse they will show games, but will they announce new games coming before holiday 2018? MS first party line up is poor thus far.

Showinh 3rd party games in prettier 4k is not gunna cut it.

I see. I thought you were getting at something to the idea of them canceling their VR plans. My bad. I'm saying that they actually didn't say they would show VR this year. They just said Scorpio would be shown. The only mention of VR last year, was that "Scorpio was being built for 4K and high fidelity VR". That's it. They changed their messaging on the website to remove that "high fidelity VR" comment because the VR (or MR) needs to not take the spotlight from Scorpio this year. I'm sure we can both agree on them focusing on standard console gaming this year being a good move. I was just hoping for a mention of what's to come, but not a time waster.

I also think Sony releasing the Pro and PSVR at the same time was not a good move by them, but people may disagree.

I hope so. Usually a new console means new games. I don't know what to expect this time. We'll find out in 3 days.

Whew. Good for my books.

The less VR and AR the better.

If all those PC VR sets work on Scorpio and a bunch of games are ported over, that's fine and all. But I don't want MS wasting their time and money making these games. No different than wasting time and resources on Kinect.

Nah, this is better obviously

LOL.

And no HDR passthrough. So if a gamer wants to play some standard PS4 games with HDR supports, you have to mess around with the cords. And then if you want to play PSVR, adjust the cords again... and so forth.

Terrible design.

That's like buying a BR player and everytime you want to play a DVD, you have to mess with the cords. And then if you want to play a BR disc, you have to mess with the cords again.

Everything should just work automatically with the systems being able to recognize the task and pass through the appropriate specs.

So MR at the PC show then? Because Xbox sure as hell isn't windows or PC.
That seems to be the case. It actually makes a lot of sense this way. WinMR was basically just announced, but hasn't really been demoed for games or even the new motion controllers.

Spencer wants to incubate on PC and not rush out for Scorpio launch. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense. I'm really interested in watching whatever they cook up for PC, though.

Yeah but there was a bit of confusion because some people on Reddit said they specifically said Xbox show.

Here is the PC keynote info from Polygon, if anyone is interested:

Well, now I'm confused. Maybe Windows VR won't be at E3 at all?
"We have games from Microsoft Studios in development for Windows Mixed Reality, and several game developers are working closely with us to bring their titles to Windows Mixed Reality. We’ll have more to share on specific games and content experiences coming to Windows Mixed Reality later this summer, after E3. This is just the start for us."

Kryptic Kipman.

Maybe they did change their mind. It's hard to keep up.

Just give me 60 minutes of Scorpio and it's games Phil and I will be a happy camper. I reckon pre-orders for it will be popping up sometime shortly afterwards.

Where will you pre order from? I want to pre-order right away. I have ZERO patience.

Amazon in the past but I've been using Best Best and Gamestop a lot more recently because Amazon service has been pretty crappy the past year.

People said Move and Kinect and Wiimote and Sixaxis and 3D and Touchbar were not fads but those are dead.

Disagree bigtime now, agreed 100% before trying VR.

I tried it at best buy and you should have seen the reactions across the board blown away. I never saw that with Kinect or Wii crap, some general "whoa thats nifty" but nothing like people sweating taking the visor off saying "ok wow, that's next level stuff."

It takes me less than 1 second with my setup. I bought a male to female hdmi connector andI just switch it out for VR. I agree, terrible design, but super easy fix.

Ok, so here is the thing. I have a VR unit now as of two days ago :)

But, let me put that in context. I got a Samsung Galaxy S8+, and it was free (took a few weeks to ship to my house). I think it's the Oculus? Ok, so yes, it is f***ing cool as f***. I was amazed by watching a new show, doing some railroad over these pyramids in Egypt or something and the cute prologue. I didn't try much else, but just the HOME is really cool.

But as daily gaming, I can't see me doing it:

  • I don't like stuff on my head like that
  • It hurts the top of my nose when on
  • It seems like it was compressing my nose, making it harder to breath out of my nose
  • Doesn't take much for some reason to get the lens on the eye pieces dirty
  • Need to make sure your phone is 100% clean
  • I had to recalibrate the little handheld controller once in awhile to get it back to center
I admit the experience is cool, but because of those things I noticed so far, I can't see using it right now.

I understand, but what you have is the Gear VR, thats lowest end version, based on all your complaints, PSVR is way more comfortable, I've worn it for 4 hours straight before no issues other than foggy up once. A real PSVR/oculus/VIVE is really far beyond what you have, no comparison. There are some games so good in VR I can't even put it to words, I've tried. lol

I have the same setup, phone and all! Did the promotion through Best Buy and got it about a month ago. Gear VRs pretty fun for a while, in doses. Make sure you get Drop Dead! Best experience so far!

Also of note, the Plus has a bit more screen door than the regular Galaxy 8, since they are the same exact resolution, but with the pixels more spread out on the Plus. That said, it's still a decent experience. I went for the bigger screen, also.

The free Gear VR in the promotion (I have it too) is actually the newest model that was just released and it comes with a basic motion controller, which is also a new thing. There are some pretty good experiences on it. I know it's no PSVR, but I am impressed at what it can handle with a Galaxy 8.

That controller thing is because it's a basic b!tch, just like the Gear VR itself. Be prepared to recalibrate constantly in Drop Dead. This alone would make me appreciate better tracking of a real VR setup.

Speaking of the scrappy little controller, if the WinMR controllers has that kind of tracking when out of camera sight, it should be totally fine. People were actually worried about that. It'll have perfect tracking when in sight, which its most of the time. It would recalibrate the other tracking every time you moved it forward.

I still can't believe Sony doesn't have a way for people to try the device out at Best Buy or something.

Best Buy does have PSVR demos. But it's limited in availability. And who knows if the kiosks were only done at launch or if they still have them now.

I haven't seen any locally at all. They have an Oculus kiosk where the dude is there every Thursday.
