Official Forza 5 discussion v2.0

Game is looking and sounding damn sick. No doubt this will be the racer to get this year. The game is just insanely huge in scale, and the attention to detail, the night and day and weather dynamics are untouched. I wish it was here already.

For its scale it looks fantastic, but damn i just saw the new Driveclub footage and ......jesus. Although i still believe Horizon 2 will be more up my alley.

Sorry, it wasn't my intention to start anything or whatsoever. I realize FH2 is open world and the other is not. Yes i agree man, both look goddamn good.

I recently saw the Drive Club footage and it look photo realistic to me. Where as FH2 you can tell is a video game. I believe X1 can do what we are seeing in Drive Club but right now we don't have a comparable game. they did soem great work with the water effects in drive club and I believe that is why it looks so real.

Still looking forward to FH2 though.

Remember when people said "who cares about the environment"? Now you can see why it makes a difference.

But yeah, looking forward to both for sure!

Well, they (Evo) had a focus. They made it a corridor racer, went with 30fps, 50 cars (12 cars max on screen), reduced physics and damage and arcadey to achieve their goal. Let's just hope the gameplay is awesome.

FH1 was insanely awesome as we know. FH2 not only builds on that success, but is so much larger. The career, the maps, the number of cars, the livery editor, the weather, the night and day transition, the open world, the lighting....just insane. It's the go to racer, that is for sure.

I am just floored the more and more we hear about just how deep this game is:

  • Connor identifies three core tenets in what has now become the Horizon series: beauty, fun, and freedom.
  • We see stunning areas from France’s Cote D’Azur to the Amalfi coast in Italy. “We’ve picked southern Europe because it has everything,” explains Connor. “It has stunning expansive vistas, it has enticing, rolling landscapes, and that gives us enormous diversity. There are famous iconic cities like Nice, through to historic medieval towns like San Gimignano in Tuscany.”
  • Playground holds that light rather than the slavish pursuit of more pixels and higher polygon counts is the key to superior new-gen beauty. Horizon 2 runs on the same engine that Turn 10 used for Forza Motorsport 5,
  • The series will feature dynamic weather. “We accurately simulate the way puddles form,” says Connor. “First it fills the cracks, then it covers the surface, and when it does, the whole world is reflected back – people, cars, objects, and light.” - SICK!!!
  • Dynamic weather doesn’t just create a more visually compelling product it also has ramifications for gameplay, including traction and visibility.
  • Forza Motorsports 5’s “Drivatar” technology will also feature in Horizon 2.
  • “That gave us the coolest emergent feature in the game,” continues Connor. “Let’s say you have a friend who has played this game a lot longer than you have. He’s found most of the secrets and the collectibles we’ve hidden away around the world. Just by following your friend’s Drivatar in your game, there’s a good chance he’s going to lead you to those same secrets. So your friend is helping you to play the game without even knowing it.
  • As Playground designed the southern European game world, it made the deliberate decision to only create barriers where they would also exist in reality, says Connor. If you want to drive through some guy’s vineyard in Tuscany, you can. What it means is that Forza Horizon 2 is three times as large as the original Horizon was on Xbox 360.
  • There are more than 200 different cars in the game, from modern supercars to monster trucks and Detroit muscle cars.
  • In addition to the street and circuit races, the point-to-point races, we’ve added endurance races, hill climbs, and cross country events.”
  • Horizon’s signature event, the showcase, will also return. In it, you’ll be driving against everything from aerial stunt teams, to a steam train in northern Italy. Connor’s personal favourite is a race against a 150-foot cargo plane as it comes in to land on a stormy night. In total, there are more than 700 unique racing events in in the game. Connor conservatively estimates that a 100 percent completion would take well over 100 hours.
  • Car culture is inherently social, believes O’Connor, and he says Playground intends to capture that sense of sociability in Horizon 2. Choosing to go online is seamless. There are no lobbies. You go from solo to online with the touch of a button, and without the car ever coming to a stop.
  • The map will show where all your online friends are driving and point out car meets, which are similar in concept to online hangouts. These are a place to chat, swap tips, and share. “If you like the livery of someone else’s car, you can download it at the touch of a button,” says Connor. The creator even gets a reward if you do so.
Gameplay, f***ing nailed it. Holy s***...great looks, great gameplay, and packed to the hilt with features.

I agree. The car models look great in game, but that shot is obviously a bullshot.

Well yeah. Every car game has the bullshots. They never look the same in game. Will probably always be like that.

Which is sad considering how old the GIF format is. :(

Games like this I wish these consoles had Xbox 1's style custom soundtrack feature.

I would love for this game to have plenty of complete open area driving areas with lots of elevation changes. Seeing that lambo zip through an open field made me think of one of my old old favorites - Smugglers Run where you had a no-path open world to complete missions. That game never got old because even the same mission could play out completely different based on the path you chose. Having wide open areas would allow for new multi-player game types and places to just jack around with friends doing jumps and stunts.

i would say GIFs are kinda bullshots too, games never look as good as the GIFs

Sorry for replying to this thread, but apparently the mods allowed Haggis to post the above statement, so I think it's ok to reply to it

“great work with the water effects in drive club and I believe that is why it looks so real.”

Really ? DC use mirrored water effects, check this picture, and plz don't use great water effects in the same sentence as DC again.
draw a line in the middle of the car hood and you'll see the rain drops are exactly the same on both sides - strange rain and most unrealistic I've ever seen - 'nuff said
